You've reminded me that I had battery problems, a few years ago - but quickly solved them by buying a new one!

They don't last for ever especially now that no one ever looks at them. Remember the bottle of distilled water for topping up the cells.

I spent many years saying like Stanley - "if you don't have one it can't go wrong", but from my "lived experience" I've altered my view.

David, I think that my problem is that I was reared in the days when drivers were responsible for monitoring the health and performance of their vehicles. Often, like me, doing all my own maintenance. I had instruments that fed me information like oil and air pressure, temperatures and charging rates, and I read them as I drove. I think that's been lost today and explains why Kev is being plagued by bum sensors!

We had a quick Zoom meeting of the Bosom Friends Trustees this morning. I have an email from the Zoom Team advising me to change my password if the sign in was not me, they have my location as Southampton! Must try harder Zoom, only about 300 miles out!

We've probably all seen the images of big aircraft dropping red-coloured water in California to try and restrict the spread of the wildfires. An explanation of the chemical and red colour are given here...

Well I learned something there Peter!
What got my attention was the slow thaw of the ice and snow on the ground. The temptation to go out for a walk grows but I shall resist it until the ground is clear. My shopping last Tuesday means that I am not in need of anything yet! It was high risk but as it has turned out a smart move!

The ongoing Ford Kuga sensor issue update.
The DPF (diesel particulate filter) is blocked, the differential pressure sensors are trying to force a regeneration to burn the soot out but there's too much soot in there to allow the process to start (there's a diesel vaporiser and igniter, in the DPF, that would normally burn the soot). The garage have their own Kuga so have been able to run comparison tests. All the sensors have been tested OK on the other vehicle but show a static 1200C on mine.

The current diagnosis is the ECU needs to reset itself (it does this) to the default values but it can't do this until a DPF regen has successfully run, it can't do this as the soot level is too high (200g). To achieve this the DPF is being removed and chemically cleaned overnight, this will potentially allow the regen to start which, in turn, will allow the ECU to reset itself.

I should know by the end of the week.

An update on the update.
The DPF has been manually cleared and the pressure sensors are reporting correctly, unfortunately the rogue 1200C reading won't clear. The garage have given me details of an ECU specialist, on the Lomeshaye Estate in Nelson, who can (should) be able to identify if it's a wiring short or an ECU fault. An ECU fault would be the best outcome as it's just a 'plug in' box, also a guaranteed used one is less than £100 on eBay. I have emailed the specialist directly, at the request of the garage, outlining the problem and hopefully they'll get back to me tomorrow.

I feel so sorry for you Kev! What a bloody mess. My mind goes back to the Ford 8 van, a tiny 4 cylinder side valve engine and a 3 speed gearbox. The nearest thing to complicated on them was the temperature gauge! They appear to have designed a Frankenstein......

It's frustrating but the issue appears to have been identified. Hopefully I'll get it sorted now.

Booked in with the auto electrician for January 30th, it's a wait but there aren't many about who can interrogate the ECU.

Call me old-fashioned but why should Ford get away scot-free from responsibility for such a complicated, and evidently bad, design?

They shouldn't to be honest. Vehicles newer than mine are apparently even more difficult to diagnose as the software, in the ECU, is encrypted and only main dealers can access it.

Yes, and I have an idea that it was Mercedes that first hit on the cunning wheeze of making maintenance of their engines impossible for owners and forcing them to go to the dealers for expensive routine maintenance. As I said earlier, it's all about screwing the maximum amount out of the client.
You have my sympathy but unfortunately that won't help!

I'm fairly confident the auto electrician can fix the problem. I suspect it's a short on the wire from the affected sensor to the ECU, if it is it should just be a case of replacing that one wire. We live in hope :good:

Found a mobile phone on my way round to our Frank Street premises this morning. A bit of detective work from the bank cards in the case and I managed to track the owner. Just taken it back to her. She realised that she had lost it when she needed to use her debit card for a purchase. :nooo:

Cards in phone case...... Eggs in one basket!

Heard on World Service this morning. ..... A man reported on social media that he had got in a driverless taxi expecting to be taken to the airport but was surprised when it started to drive in a circle in the car park and he could do nothing about it. I missed the denouement of the story but it raised a question in my mind...... Will there be some sort of fail-safe procedure?

Strange, but that happened weeks ago and was reported in the press and online. I watched and listened to the video the man recorded as the car took him round in circles in the airport car park. He contacted the firm and they tried a few things until they could get the car to pull over and stop. They're probably still trying to workout what was going wrong! Interesting when you think of all the electronic problems appearing in `normal' cars like Kev's Ford and my cousin's Nissan. Perhaps the manufacturer's ought to solve those problems before dabbling in driverless vehicles.

I can't remember whether or not I posted the news last week of a Tesla Cybetruck being caught parked in one of our northern towns. It wasn't autonomous but isn't legal for us on UK roads. It's not really a truck and looks like a car built for Dan Dare. It weighs 3 tons and the body is bulletproof metal. The last I heard was that the police were looking for the owner.

Latest news! A snake oil salesman becomes President of the USA!...
`Trump launches cryptocurrency with price rocketing' LINK
US President-elect Donald Trump has launched his own cryptocurrency, which quickly soared in market capitalisation to several billion dollars. His release of the meme coin, $Trump, comes as he prepares to take office on Monday as 47th president of the US. The venture was co-ordinated by CIC Digital LLC - an affiliate of the Trump Organization - which has previously sold Trump-branded shoes and fragrances. Meme coins are used to build popularity for a viral internet trend or movement, but they lack intrinsic value and are extremely volatile investments....

Trump who has been denigrating TickTock as a a Chinese security threat to National Security and demanded it's banning from the US has allowed its use for a further 90 days just in time for his probable tirade of its use for his own nefarious posts. If it is a threat to National Security he should be arrested for treason if he uses it but unfortunately they don't have the same rules for the orange knob!
