That's good news to get up to Sue! I'm so glad you were OK.
I have just checked on my brood, Susan slept like a log first night in Perth and Yiota and Ash are an hour out from landing after flying non-stop from Heathrow. (16.5 hours......)
I shall be in the shed for an hour and then after second sleep I am not sure, we are promised rain.....

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Straight back into muck shifting. I have this end of the shaft within 50 thou of finished size so I stopped, changed the cutter to one with a square corner and started to cut the cheeks of the stock back square and finished. I have also cleaned up the swarf from this morning and tomorrow I'll finish taking this side down to size when it's cold.... Then we have to start looking at cutting down to the crank pin....

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
It was a long hard drive back. We were delayed in fact static for an hour due to a lorry going off the road, coinciding with roadworks where there was on.y one lane open. That was Stafford . After that torrential rain meant it was impossible to drive, indeed not safe to drive so we pulled into a Macdonalds service area for a coffee and a break. It was 1.45 am when we got home

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
A blustery but fine morning for the last sweep of the cemetery and churchyard. I reckon the ones we can't find now are on laid down headstones so I will write up a cross for each that are unfound but I know they are there. Good news is that despite doing this now for well over 10 years we found two new ones, one in the cemetery and one in the churchyard which will be added to my lists.
I have the local Labour Party branch wreath to pick up from the poppy shop and a posy for my mum and dad. I will place the latter when I go down with missing from this year.
We have dropped lucky with the weather this year over the last three mornings, today was the best day really as most of the headstones were dry and a bit easier to read.

Good! You deserve a bit of good luck Ian.
I shall be continuing the chase for the crankshaft. It's a lot of work for one component and a lot of turning but the result is far superior to building a crankshaft up.
I might miss my walk again today as we have heavy rain and it's forecast to last all day.
I'm not at all surprised to hear about bad rain on your journey up country Sue, well done for having the sense to stop and let it get on with it!

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Morning
Stanley that was a journey I would not want to repeat in a hurry. Its the first time in my life I have sat in the passenger seat of a car and said I was frightened.
Yesterday was a very subdued day. Neither of us did much, though I did go to pilates and yoga in the evening. The latter was quite a relaxing session which was good. In the afternoon I did some washing and a bit of simple sewing. When we unpacked I discovered I had left most of my handkerchieves in France so decided to make some . I can’t stand paper tissues, and only use them when I have a cold.
I also had a prebooked telephone consultation with my GP. You may remember I had been wanting an appointment for ages but could not get one so I went to see the asthma nurse instead. Ever since I had that nasty virus in May I have had a hoarse voice with no apparent cause . As a result of that visit the practice offered me this pre booked GP appointment. My usual doctor retired after covid so I had no preference as to who I saw. Anyway I had very good consultation with a Dr Alam who was also happy to discuss my blood sugar and cholesterol issues. He is sending me for an xray, giving me a prescription AND a follow up appointment actually AT the surgery in two weeks. I explained that I had been unable to get an appointment for weeks to discuss these issues and he said I was now in the system and he would follow up my concerns .
This morning we are off to Burnley market to our friend the pâtissière, then its a short trip to the cemetery there with some flowers. This afternoon I shall walk down ( unless it is heavy rain) to Rochdale Infirmary for my X ray, then continue with my sewing .
Good news about Laetitia's Mum. She is out of hospital and it has been decided that she will go and live with them at the farmhouse. Barry is also out of hospital and I believe Wendy had her post op check up for her shoulder and all is well. I will visit them tomorrow, and see if they would like me to do some more cooking for them.
Have a good day all

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
That all sounds more positive Sue! I'm glad you have good news from France and that you seem to have cracked the GP problem. No shame in being frightened as long as you do what you and Bob did, bale out and wait in safety for an improvement.
I've had a good hour and a half in the shed and made progress but Spent a lot of time looking for a milling cutter that had gone into hiding!

Here I am at closing time. Ready to go forwards tomorrow.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Well, I should have been nipping down to Gill with the crosses I have written up for the cemetery and churchyard. Plan was to do an Aldi shop on the way back. It will be too claggy down at Gill so I will defer until tomorrow on that one. Aldi still beckons though as we have run out of one or two things. Need to get that done this morning as Sally needs the car for her Silsden stint after an early lunch. Having a brew at the moment, waiting for a window of opportunity to get to the car relatively dry.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
I started cutting the meat out of the crankshaft but the cutter wasn't performing correctly, I very carefully re-sharpened it, altered the speed of the mill and set into the boring job of muck-shitting. All has gone well and I am half way there. Patience is the name of the game! A good hour and half with solid progress.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Morning
We had a a drizzly sunny morning in Burnley but back home in Rochdale it was more sun than drizzle. Bob drove me to the Infirmary in the afternoon just in case, but I had a very pleasant walk back. It remained mostly sunny all afternoon. I finished sewing my handkerchieves and then, being my turn to cook I made a rather over warm chilli for tea. It had two of our own chillis in which had ripened in the conservatory whilst we we were away. We were in bed early and actually had 9 solid hours sleep.
This morning is art at Haslingden, this afternoon I shall go and see Wendy and Barry.

Friday is early doors shopping day but I shall be in the shed for an hour chasing my crankshaft. I'm at the stage now where a lot of work has gone into it and any mistake would be very disappointing (to say the least!). So slow and careful is the watchword. Then shopping and second sleep. Not sure about later, could be a short walk but I have veggies to cook!

Morning
I had a good day yesterday. Art was a ‘do your own thing’ workshop so I designed, drew and started painting a Christmas card. Its a deviation from my normal landscape , if it works. In the afternoon both Bob and I went to see Wendy and Barry, picking up my prescription from the pharmacist on the way. They were both very well indeed in fact the two of them had been out for a meal the night before. Wendy has her sling off and is starting to regain some mobility in her shoulder. Barry was sitting on a new recliner chair that allows him to put his feet up easily, but more important he can get out of easily. He has been given a walker on wheels to aid his mobility. Both things will help him considerably, and Wendy will no longer have to help him up out of a chair and to move around. As well as his heart problem he has arthritis severely in his feet which has recently limited his ability to move, thus aggravating the circulation problems he has . I have promised to make them two more meals sufficient for a couple of servings for the two of them.
This morning is U3A art at Todmorden, followed by lunch at the Shepherds Rest with Wendy and Keith. It will be late afternoon when we get back. Bob will have to leave early as he has an appointment at the Drs. I am not sure how he managed to get that but it may be because it is a follow up consultation.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
You both seem to be doing well with the doctors Sue, Good! As for Barry, I recognise the problems and fight to simply walk to the Co-op or Town Square. So far I have managed but sooner or later....

Only one image this morning, I continued milling surplus metal out of the crankshaft to make the amount of interrupted cutting less. I finished over half way through the stock and had a chip chase. I know where I am starting tomorrow.

Morning
Well its Saturday again and a trip to Bacup market. Afterwards its a cuppa and then Bob is off to Derby for a model engineers meeting ( the Northern Association of Model Engineers). I shall take the opportunity of a day to myself. If the weather is nice, which it promises to be I shall do a bit of gardening. I have a box full of bulbs that I bought a month ago and I need to get them planted. I also want to plant my over wintering broad beans. That done. I shall either cut out a dress or do some cooking for Wendy and Barry. This evening is u3a wine appreciation, and the topic is German wines. We won’t have time to eat before hand as Bob won’t be back till early evening so we shall have a snack and then a substantial supper after our meeting

I've been to Huppachs with my watch, twice!! because I had to go back with the guarantee card as the watch has to go back Lorus. Two walks.... That's enough exercise for today. I am sat down now it home with a pot of tea.
I have decided to go with Ken's suggestion for the shaft, it should work.....
Now to get my mojo back!

The Design Committee agree with Ken. I was hurt and disappointed yesterday and reacted badly. Common sense has prevailed and this morning I shall retrieve the situation. So an hour in the shed and from the looks of the weather forecast a walk and sit at midday. (Well wrapped up!)

Morning
Nice day yesterday. I spent nearly all day in the back garden, we had a delivery of manure, a little Irish chap and son who come every year, deliver several bags and spread it, whilst keeping up a constant chatter. They left 4 bags for me to put on the front garden which I hope to do today. After they left I pruned roses and tidied the one border that had not had attention as stuff was still in flower. That leaves the rockery round the pond to tidy, but the front garden has priority. The plants on the rockery will die back naturally. I planted my bulbs and fixed netting over some of the pots to try and deter the squirrels . If it works I shall cover the rest. My fuchsias are still in flower so I left them until we have a frost. After wine appreciation in the evening we watched the Remembrance service on BBC 1. I found it very moving
So today will be the front garden where I want to dig out the overgrown heathers, then dig in the manure . Next Spring I shall replace them with roses . Bob is at the park this afternoon as they continue their winter tidy up. Have a good day all
