Sounds like a nice quiet day Sue.A good hour and a quarter.

I continued milling excess metal out of the blank. Half way through I stopped and re-sharpened the cutter. That sorted it and by knocking off time I was down to my target. I've done my early doors shopping and put it away. Tomorrow I shall cut the flanks of the excess.

Stanley , Fridays . are always a good wind down from the week. I have had a letter from the surgery saying the GP wants to see me about my chest XRay. I already have the appointment for Tuesday, I think the letter is really just a reminder of the review of the tests and medication he put me on. Certainly the nasal spray seems to be having an effect on my voice, I am less hoarse

No social engagements today.... Good! I shall be in the shed for an hour and a walk and sit might be on later. An easier day....

This morning I cut the flanks of the metal left in the stock. I have cut both sides and the crank pin is inside the metal left on the stock. I sharpened the 7/16" cutter before putting it away. Cleaned the chips up and replaced the bigger cutter in the mill. Tomorrow I shall reinstall the vise on the table of the mill and set the stock up in the 4 jaw ready for cutting the crank pin. A productive hour with no dramas. This is how I should have made the one I scrapped. We live and learn!

I shall be in the shed setting the stock up in the lathe ready to cut the crank pin. I still have a bit of cooking to do and walk and sit depends on the weather. At the moment the forecast is rain. Deep Joy!

Only one pic needed this morning, I spent almost an hour installing the stock in the 4 jaw chuck and then a quarter of an hour actually cutting the crank pin. Then I stopped, I am in no rush and I find this all very stressful after the last disaster! A good morning, I am pleased. :biggrin2:

Morning

Its an early start for a Sunday. My old pilates teacher, in fact the one who set up the studio, retired to Anglesey a couple of years ago. Today she is in Rochdale and visiting the studio, in fact taking part in a class at 9.00 am. Those who know her are going down at 10.00 am for coffee and cake as a surprise pre 60th birthday celebration. I will be there but can’t stay long as Bob needs my car to go to the park. Mind you its such a wet day forecast he won’t be doing much there. My day will be ironing, sewing and doing a bit of art preparation as I will be doing a demo at u3a art on Friday.

Have a good day all

I shall have an hour in the shed cutting my crank pin in. Not sure about walk and sit, it looks as though it might be rained off, we shall see later on. I may have another day of staying indoors and keeping warm!

I was in the shed early, I wanted to get this morning over with. I don't enjoy high stress machining these days....
I cut steadily in 10 thou increments until I had it down to 3/8" diameter. Then I cut the right flank down to the pin with the cutter slightly inclined into the flank which is how I have cut the other side. Then a polish of the pin with emery before inserting a 7/16" spacer using Loctite. This is to stop the gap distorting under the pressure of the centre. Then a change over to the big 3 jaw SC. I have broken the edge of the cut and marked the 1/4" webs. Then I set up ready for cutting the legs of the shaft down to 3/8" diameter. I didn't start cutting, I want the Loctite securing the spacer to cure. A good hour and a quarter. I am a happy bunny!

Morning

I am a bit thrown this morning, i woke about 1.30, stayed awake till 5 then fell asleep till 7.50 am. So this will be short. I have pilates at 10.00 and want to strip the bed and put the washer on before then. Otherwise I have no real plans for the day but will probably sew.

Yesterday mornings little pre birthday get together went well, a total surprise for Gill

Looks like a dry day Sue.....
I shall be in the shed starting the process of muck-shifting the rest of the excess metal from the shaft ends. No rush and all straight turning, no interrupted cuts! A walk and a sit should be on the cards later and I shall be looking after myself after that and keeping warm.

Only one pic needed this morning. I have spent an hour reducing this side of the crankshaft. I'm not down to target yet, I shall do that tomorrow when the stock has cooled down. You can see from the colour how hot it is! I have kept up with blue swarf removal. Boring work but essential.

Morning

Yes Stanley a dry cold day, possibly a chance for a walk. We did the bank and Rochdale in the car yesterday because of the rain so if we walk it will be just that. Not too far though as I have Pilates and yoga this evening. I actually have no other plans though a bit of leaf tidying in the back garden would be a good idea……

I was making my second dress yesterday with fabric from France and did my usual pattern alteration for a SIMPLICITY dress pattern, oh its so small . I am debating in my head wether I can add shaped panels in the side seams. I am seeing Maxine tomorrow for the first time since her Dad died way back in August, so I shall wait till tomorrow and see what we can come up with. Would you believe I did the most perfect invisible zip in the back seam…isn’t it the way.

This afternoon I have my GP appointment.

Have a good day all.

Congratulations on the zip Sue! My equivalent of that is the fact I now have a crank pin!
Margaret has just told me that they have 38C today in Perth. I think I'd rather have our 4C or so....

Perfect Sue and fits well.
I shall be in the shed carefully chasing my crank pin. All I have to do now is stay alert because there is no more eccentric turning! The forecast doesn't bode well for a midday walk and sit but we shall see. The main thing is to keep warm and dry and not have any cock-ups!

I finished the leg I was working on yesterday. It was cold so I could get accurate measurements. I remembered to leave the bearing journal at half and inch and finished the rest to 3/8". Then I reversed the stock and started cutting on the other leg. Here's where I ended up.... A nice hour and a quarter.

Morning

Its dark and its pouring with rain, a taste of 3 months of winter to come ! This morning I have to pop out to the pharmacist for a prescription but then I shall continue with a tidying task. I am sorting through my off cuts of material , ironing the good bits and throwing away the scraps. This afternoon I am having my first session with Maxine and hope to be able to make the adjustments to my dress so that it fits. It would be a shame to waste that perfect zip.

My trip to the GP was sort of successful, the xray is clear but I am being referred to a specialist ( ear, nose and throat) to check there is no nasty underlying cause for my hoarse voice . Ie cancer. Having never smoked that is one thing in my favour. We also had the opportunity to at last discuss my pre diabetes issue. As luck would have it the Dr I had been given an appointment with is the practice diabetes specialist. He was very re assuring . It transpires that a couple of my daily medications raise blood sugar and I may have to consider stopping taking them depending on how the pre diabetes progresses , if it does. It was really good to be able to talk to some one face to face about this after 2.5 years of trying to see someone. I am optimistic.

No more plans for the day, it will probably be dark when I get back from Maxine’s, but at least I can continue with my fabric sorting and ironing in artificial lighting. Bob is collecting some tools from Ian ( Maxine's husband). The tools belonged to Maxine's Dad mainly imperial but ideal for some of the model engineers, and all being donated by Ian

Have a good day, stay warm and dry.m

Trouble is Stanley there is nothing wrong with my diet as agreed by the GP and the dietician or weight or exercise, ( plus I read what Wendy says and try to follow her advice) hence looking at the medication. In adjusting my diet over the last two years plus the extra exercise I do I have lost over 12 pounds in weight, hence the big C concern, but I think it is the diet adjustment and the walking , The worse culprit is the meds for restless leg syndrome which is scientifically documented as causing an increase in blood sugar especially in women over 60 who have taken it for more than 2 years.i am both……I am more than happy with my new weight and I have not felt as well in over 30 years.m

It shows Sue. I nearly made a comment when I saw the pic of the zip this morning but managed to stop myself in time. I'm sure you're right about the meds and blood sugar as your diet sounds spot on.
I've just surfaced after second sleep and might go out to the Co-op for some apples if it stops raining! :biggrin2:
