The tank has split along the seams. He got it off and half emptied yesterday but most of the day was spent trying to locate a replacement. Possibility of one in Rawtenstall, the chap is phoning back today to let Col know if it's fit to use. It might be time to say goodbye and learn to tow a trailer!

Have you checked out the 4 x 4 place on Norfolk st. (just off Skipton Rd Colne.) they may be able to advise you.

My newly widowed neighbour was totally ripped off by them a few years back Plaques. She took her old land-rover in for some repairs, waited patiently for them to contact her when it was done but they didn't. When she went down to see what was happening they told her it had been scrapped and she got nothing for it! She didn't admit what had happened for ages so there was nothing we could do.

Anyway, once Col had stopped panicking he realised it was a pinhole above the seam on the fuel tank and he has managed to seal that and sort a couple of places where it was about to go. On with kitchen work now!

Good lad Col. A suggestion; the tank is obviously on its last legs. If the truck is in as good condition as you say it is why not order a new tank from the maker? Failing that look for a scrapper round the yards....

He spent hours phoning every scrappy he could find in a 50 mile & more radius Stanley, with no joy. Its 12 years old and an old model and everything underneath rusts like hell despite Col coating it with stuff of one sort or another every year after he has welded bits up. It has a 2.5 litre diesel engine that's done less than 15000 miles because we only use it when necessary.....the decision has been made now, it's on it's way out! We need a 4 wheel drive up here, so are considering a Dacia Duster which is a basic, unflashy 4wd with a long manufacturers guarantee. (though I long for a Fiat Panda 4x4.... I had one years ago in Scotland, it was just like a micro Range Rover and I loved it! Col didnt though  )
The Skoda Fabia will stay with us till it drops!

Thanks Kev, yes he spent quite a while talking to someone about that. They said they would phone back if there was a tank but never did. He is off to Bolton to pick one up tomorrow, it's "rusty" but only £20 so it's worth a trip. The repairs he did yesterday seem good under test conditions!

Kev's post in another thread about plasterboards and scrim reminds me that I have a roll of scrim tape and a bag of galvanised platerboard nails left over from my new kitchen ceiling if they would be any good to you Wendy.

Thanks for the offer Ian but we have plenty tape and Col uses plasterboard screws rather than nails.

So did I Wendy, that's why I have the bag of nails! SPAX screws are wonderful things, especially when working upside down.

Rusty but usable as a standby if necessary Kev. Col's repairs are looking good and he has cleaned the pickup up ready to sell. I got the mileage wrong.....it has done 31000 miles, which is nothing for a diesel engine and he sorted out a possible terminal Nissan Navara engine fault a couple of years ago. (Something to do with con rod bolts and big end bearings self-destructing? ) We might get a couple of grand if we are lucky.
Plastering again today.

I would imagine a pickup would be useful to someone, I can't see any problem getting a couple grand especially with that low mileage. If you put some details on here I'll put the Word out

Thanks for the offer Kev. I'm not sure what Col plans to do at the moment...we got a surprisingly good part exchange offer today. I'd much rather be mixing plaster than trying to buy a vehicle, it's all so confusing!! :geek:

The plastering is finished on both walls. Next job is the ceiling, I think the plan is to patch up the access holes then put another layer of plasterboard up.
The ducting for the extractor hood went in yesterday...even apparently simple jobs like that take ages!

And behind the progress the normal work has to go on, the garden, the animals and cleaning the lavatory..... How are my mates Dennis and Sparky doing?

The boys are doing OK thanks Stanley, a bit more work involved at the moment as I'm still bringing them in overnight to keep Sparky off the early morning grass.

Good! I'm sure you'll be aware that in the old days a lot of horse hair was used in plaster. Has Col been angling for any off you and the lads?

It's taken a while but vehicle issues are now sorted, the pickup has finally gone and we have a flashy new 4wd and a useful looking trailer. On with the kitchen!
The framing has gone up on the outside facing wall to take insulation and plasterboard. I have chosen some tiles to go behind the Stanley range and the new electric hob....exciting stuff, but it may be a ages before I get to see them in place!

The insulation went on to the north facing outer wall yesterday. The mountings for cupboards, radiator etc all in place and little access points formed for water connections.
The window is lower than the worktops & sink so that presents a few design problems!
Today the visqueen dpm goes up, then the plasterboard.

Just catching up Wendy. I've googled it; looks great and I love the red.

The kitchen is taking shape very nicely. You won't know yourself when it's finished.
