Isinglass is also used to make `finings', the substance added to beer to clear away any cloudiness after production. It used to be added to the barrels at the brewery. The particles of isinglass have the opposite electrical charge to the particles suspended in the beer, so attract them into clumps which sink to bottom of the barrel.

Talking of drawers, with my interest in minerals and crystals I sometimes visit the the `Crystal Man' shop in Glastonbury. His specimens and crystals are laid out on many shelves but the shop is only small so he also has lots in chests of drawers. Mike, the Crystal Man, has great fun when tourists come into his shop and his favourite line to the ladies is "You're welcome to have a rummage in me drawers!".

My mother once informed us she was fed up with the onions in her drawers. Father had decided it was a good place to store them.

Yes Its a Post Box, but what's unusual about it.

You've got it Glo, this is a small star drill as they were called. They were made up to 3" diameter for quarry work.
As for post box, haven't the faintest apart from the fact it's Victorian.

Quite right. The Post Box is Victorian. Probably quite common in Stanley's days. This one was spotted in Alnwick Northumberland. I've seen a King George one but again in Northumberland. Like most street furniture most people never take any notice of them.

The post box in the wall near the entrance to Colne Cemetery is an old one...I think it's a King George.

Involute curve eh? Quite right and getting very technical... are you sure you haven't spent more time than you let on in engineering?
Yes, it's geared and for turning something but question is what?

Oh come on Stanley it could be anything, it could be a pinion from a rack and pinion steering assembly, or any associated gearing.
And No I do not have an engineering background.

Now now! You know you like a good mystery. I shan't keep you in the dark for long, bigger clue later when we see if anyone knows exactly what it is. (Have you seen how many hits this topic gets?)

I think Gloria is "channeling" an engineer from the other side....
