Wendy has it exactly right, the only thing missing is why it's unique. Nothing to do with Dorothy I'm afraid, just that it's the last of the standard design bridges left on the old R66. They were all called Rainbow bridges because of the shape of the bow girders. This one is now a Landmark Monument.

Ooh! I remembered that you had mentioned Route 66 before, so I Googled ' bridges on Route 66' and there it was. Cheating I suppose, but not many of us have travelled in the USA.

One little known fact that struck me when I stood on the bridge thinking about all the traffic that had used it over the years was that one of the first British people to travel Route 66 was Winston Churchill. He was in California when the stock market collapsed in 1929 (LINK) and his New York broker, Bernard Baruch, realising that Churchill didn't realise that his personal finances were in ruins, sent his chauffeur to drive Churchill back to New York so that he could advise him. I imagined Churchill thinking about this as he drove over the bridge.....
We need another object!

Looks like the wall is built encompassing a tree, probably considerably easier than trying to remove it. No idea where. On Higher lane out of Barlick there is half a vice embedded in a tree trunk. :extrawink:

It looks like a cylindrical stone pillar. There's something that looks like a rusty rod sticking out of the end of it. Is it an old stone roller of some kind, such as used in a roller mill operation?

I have to give it to you, you are all so close. John Clayton did the pic at Harpers. Fence and says it is a hoar stone that is embedded there. (LINK)

Ian is this the vice you refer to? It used to be on the side of Forty Steps near the waterfall but vanished when the land was developed and houses were built there.
Next object?

Can anyone tell me what this is? (It's about 3 inches high)

If it had been 30 inches high it would have been our old bread bin. but at 3 inches I would say a preserve jar.
