Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Yesterday was pleasant but not outstanding. At 20:00 it was calm, broken cloud, dry and cool. This morning first thing it was the same. Just looked out and the only change is that the overcast is 100% now. The glass is down a touch on 1020mb. The forecast is for an overcast day with the chance of a light shower later. The constant light to moderate west wind tends to the south today and gives a high of 16 C and a low of 14C with a -2C chill when it is at its strongest. The outlook is the same, more of the same and no surprises. Not high summer and the days are shortening but we must be glad for what we get!
05:20. Another early walk. Very quiet and pleasant. Calm, mild and dry. This and better will do but no sun in sight.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Apart from a bit of 'damping' (you couldn't call it rain) we had a pleasant day yesterday. At 20:00 it was overcast, mild and dry, same first thing this morning but a bit damp, it is now very light rain. The glass has dropped significantly to 1012mb and is still falling. The forecast is for this rain to cease, then an overcast morning and light rain returns around noon. The wind is moderate and SW giving a high of 15C and a low of 11C with a -2C chill. The outlook is warmer and brighter but no high summer.
05:25. A short gloomy walk under heavy overcast, still very light rain but as yet no real wind so not unpleasant.
One thing I have noted; a couple of weeks ago blue and white plastic signs appeared in the town exhorting us to keep 2 metres apart. I don't think any have survived either in the pioneer car park or Town Square, all have been broken. It's obvious that this is quite deliberate. My question is why? Is it a protest against Covid restrictions? Or is it simple run of the mill vandalism. Whichever it is I don't understand it.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
We never really escaped a very fine mizzle yesterday. At 20:00 the sky was clearing, it was dry and a pleasant evening. First thing this morning it was calm, mild, dry and we had a clear sky. Still the same but a few scattered high clouds moving over. The glass fell yesterday but is rising again and on a shade over 1007mb. The forecast is for a dry day, mostly overcast but with a chance of some sunny spells. The wind is a constant light westerly tending to SW and will give a high of 18C and a low of 14C with very little chill. The outlook is for similar weather but a touch cooler. Nothing exciting in prospect, like summer!
05:30. Pleasant walk. Clear sky apart from cloud in the east which is blocking the sun. Light breeze and cool but overall a promising morning. Here's hoping for a bit of sun!
Half an hour later, the sun has put his hat on....

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
It turned out to be a very acceptable day. At 20:00 it was mild and dry but overcast, half an hour later we had light rain. That has persisted overnight and was the same first thing but starting to get heavier. I have just looked out and we now have a succession of significant rain showers. The glass held steady all day yesterday but started falling in the evening and is now on 999mb. The forecast is for rain until noon and dry but overcast for the rest of the day. The constant WSW wind is moderate all day giving a high of 16C and a low of 13C with a -2C chill. Brighter tomorrow and a wet day on Monday then back to overcast for the rest of the week.
05:20. An early short walk and big surprise, the rain had stopped so a dry walk. Light mild breeze, 100% overcast and the town is very quiet. I suspect this was a good call, it has become very dark and I will be surprised if it isn't raining again very shortly.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
The forecast was a bit exaggerated about the amount of rain but accurate in that we had a nice afternoon with only a rogue shower around teatime. This morning first thing it had been raining quite hard but had just stopped when Jack had his morning pee. Since then it has ceased raining and the flags are drying. We have broken cloud. The glass is steady on 999mb. The forecast is a mix of light showers and sunny spells until evening when it clears up. The constant WSW wind is moderate and gives us a high of 16C and a low of 12C with up to a -3C chill this afternoon. The outlook is for a rainy day tomorrow, then dry overcast weather until Friday when it could be hot and sunny.
05:40. It's cool, overcast, a light breeze and occasionally a light shower but not enough to make a waterproof necessary. A very quiet Sunday morning, just one or two party goers going home after all-nighters. I wonder if they were socially distancing and wearing masks?
The cloud is breaking and it is brighter now.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Turned out to be quite a bright warm afternoon but still some threatening clouds. At 20:00 it was mild and raining with a light breeze. First thing this morning, still a light breeze and rain, just looked out and we still have heavy overcast and a light breeze but it's not raining as I write. The glass rose slightly yesterday and is steady on 1001mb. The forecast is dead simple, rain all day. The south wind backs all day and ends up in the west. It is brisk and gusty to 35mph and gives a high of 17C and a low of 11C with a wind chill of up to -3C in the strongest wind. The outlook is similar until Friday when it could become sunny and warm, watch this space. Looks like a wet walk day!
05:35. The rain has arrived, a steady wind, mild, heavy overcast and steady rain. Our walk was longer than usual, I let Jack off his lead for his usual free run on the Green, took my eye off him for a sceond and he had vanished! I spent 15 minutes wandering round and whistling for him and had no joy so I headed for home hoping that he had preceded me. I kept whistling and as I got to the head of the Green he appeared running towards me from Station Road! He must have gone round the block. Great relief, I had visions of him having a fit somewhere in the rain. Panic over, but as I have said, since his stroke he loses me and I shall have to keep much closer to him and pay even more attention.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Very changeable yesterday and some serious showers in the afternoon. At 20:00 it wasn't raining but we had a strong wind. This morning first thing it was dry and almost a clear sky but a stiff breeze. I've just looked outside, the wind has dropped but now we have heavy broken cloud and light rain. The class fell yesterday and at one point in the afternoon was down as far as 990mb but since then has risen and is now on 1001mb and rising slowly. The forecast is for sunny intervals and showers until early evening when it clears a bit. The story today is the constant W/NW wind which is strong and gusts at times to 40mph giving a high of 14C and a low of 10C with a chill of as much as -4C in the strongest winds. The outlook is for a similar day tomorrow but then improving as we get warm air from the South giving temperatures in the high 20s later in the week.
05:40. A short dry walk with a very careful and constant eye on Jack when he was running free. The cloud is breaking, just a bit of damp on the wind. The wind is strong and tends already to the North, it is beyond cool, I felt cold! Not a summer morning. Nice to be back in the warm.
I must be right about the cold, the CH has kicked in.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Heating was on at low level almost all day yesterday. It was a very deceptive day, you went out in brilliant sun with blue skies and fluffy clouds and suddenly it was grey gloomy and raining. First thing this morning the flags were damp but drying and we have overcast but that wind has dropped. Still the same. The glass rose all day yesterday and is on 1012mb. The forecast is for a dry overcast day perhaps with sunny intervals after late morning. The constant west wind is lighter giving us a high of 15C and a low of 11C with a -2 or -3C chill depending on wind strength. Tomorrow we see a big change as warm winds from the continent come in, expect much warmer though overcast weather for a couple of days.
05:10. An early walk. Calm cool and heavy overcast but not raining and the cloud cover is showing signs of breaking, a hopeful sign! We shall see what the day brings, at the moment the CH is on at low level again. Not what we expect for 'summer'!
06:00. Looking good, the cloud has mostly cleared and we have early sun coming in from the east.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Yesterday was another day when a rain cloud popped up from nowhere. At 20:00 it was dry, overcast and calm. First thing this morning it was the same but since then very light rain has come in. The glass is up on 1014mb and still rising. The forecast is for light rain until noon and then improving. The story is the wind, it has swung into the South, it is light and gives a high of 22C and a low of 14C with negligible wind chill. Tomorrow will be very hot and then back to what we have been having.
05:40. Back home after a wet walk. Total overcast, calm and constant light rain. A bit warmer than yesterday but that's all that's going for it at the moment. A morning to be endured in hopes of better later.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
We had an overcast but very pleasant afternoon as the warm continental air came in from the South. At 20:00 it was still warm, a light breeze and high thin scattered cloud. First thing this morning it was dry, calm, clear and mild. Still the same with early dawn light in the east and 60F in old money in the back yard. The glass has fallen slightly during the night and is on a shade over 1009mb. The forecast is for a clear sunny day until cloud comes in around 18:00. The wind is a light to moderate easterly at first, tending to south and ending up in the west this evening. It gives us a high of 29C and a low of 14C with a wind chill of -3C this afternoon which could be very welcome. Tomorrow we are back to reality! The temperature will drop 12 degrees and the outlook is for a return to overcast cool Atlantic weather. Enjoy the day, Barlick summer.
05:40. A pleasant walk. Still cool but dry and calm. Early sun is coming in from the east together with a small amount of thin high cloud but that will soon burn off. One little thought at the back of my mind is the possibility of thunderstorms being generated by the heat when the cloud comes in this evening. No mention in the forecasts so I'm probably being over cautious!

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
And there was a very light shower of large rain drops at 18:00.
Yesterday was hot. At 20:00 it was cooler and overcast but dry. This morning it is the same. The glass is down slightly on 1007mb. The forecast is for light showers and drizzle until this afternoon when we could have some sunny spells. The wind is a constant moderate westerly tending to SW and this gives a high of 17C and a low of 12C with a wind chill of -2C. A more normal day and the outlook is for similar weather for the next five days. I have my thick shirt back on again....
05:20. An early walk to get it done before rain comes in and it worked. Overcast, dark, cooler and a light west wind. No sign of rain but as we got back home there was the odd spit on the wind.
Funny how some things escape notice. Remember the splendid large sheet of bronze that filled the panel where the post office clock used to be? I noticed yesterday that two small bronze panels survive on the small shop next door which is now a beautician's. They are at pavement level and that is perhaps why I haven't noticed them before.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Yesterday was, for me, a far more comfortable day despite the persistent mizzle in the morning. At 20:00 we had heavy overcast and a light breeze, it was dark very early. First thing this morning it was the same, broken heavy overcast and promising rain but dry so far. The glass is up very slightly on 1009mb. The forecast is for persistent rain until midday when it will start to clear and brighten slowly, by evening it could be dry and clear. The constant WSW wind is moderate and gives a high of 15C and a low of 10C with a -2C chill. Barlick summer! The outlook is for a gradual improvement and sun and hotter weather by Friday.
05:20. Back from a short walk. Very pleasant, quiet, calm, heavy broken overcast and hardly light at all yet but it's dry so far. I have no reason to doubt the forecast of rain, some black clouds coming in from the west, the clearing sky is all moving eastwards.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Yesterday was better than the forecast predicted, a very pleasant afternoon. At 20:00 it was overcast but mild and dry. Same first thing this morning, calm, very high dappled cloud and dry. The overcast is lower now and dark but it's still calm and dry. The glass is up a touch at 1011mb. The forecast is for a dry day that will improve as it progresses, clear and bright later. The wind is light and varies between WSW and WNW giving us a high of 16C and a low of 10C with a negligible wind chill. The outlook is for steady improvement throughout the week.
05:25. A pleasant walk, the overcast has broken and there is lots of clear sky. It's quiet, calm and dry an a low mist is forming, heavy to the east but I think we'll have early low sun and that will burn it off. Looking more promising than the forecast. Nice morning.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Cooler in the afternoon as the wind got up a bit. At 20:00 we had a clear sky with wisps of Mare's Tail clouds, a light breeze and it was dry. Same this morning but no wind plus a lovely full moon in the SW. Just looked out and no change yet apart from slightly more high cloud but still clear and a moon. The glass is up slightly at 1012mb. The forecast is for cloud to come in and light rain showers for the rest of the day. The constant SSW wind starts very light but strengthens all day until by this evening it's gusting to over 30mph giving a high of 17C and a low of 15C with a wind chill of up to -3C later. The outlook is for slow improvement and warming up, a couple more days of cloudy weather and then into a spell of warmer dry weather as the continental wind brings heat in. Looks like another dose of summer on the way.
05:25. A cool but pleasant walk. Quiet, calm and dry with heavy dew and lovely rosy dawn light on the bases of the clouds coming in from the South. Still lots of clear sky.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
It got very gloomy in the evening yesterday. At 20:00 we had overcast and a light breeze with just a hint of rain. This morning first thing we had more wind and steady serious rain. Just looked out and it's calmer and the rain is only light. The glass has dropped to 1000mb. The forecast is simple, rain all day. The constant SW wind will be brisk and gusty giving a high of 20C and a low of 14C with a -2C chill. Deep joy! The outlook is for dry and brighter weather for the rest of the week. All we have to do is deal with today!
05:35. A wet walk in rising wind saved only by the fact the rain eased a bit while we were out. 100% overcast, I see no reason to doubt the forecast of rain all day.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Just taken Jack for his second walk on the Green. Not raining and a very warm SW wind. Very growy!

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Very light showers later in the day. At 20:00 it was mild and dry, a light breeze and broken overcast. First thing this morning it was warm, calm, overcast and a very light mizzle/mist. It's still the same. The glass is up on 1009mb and rising slowly. The forecast is for an overcast day with sunny intervals. The constant SW wind is light and gives a high of 22C and a low of 15C with negligible chill. The outlook is for steady improvement and warmer drier weather.
05:30. A nice quiet walk. It's calm and dry, very mild and the murk is retreating rapidly towards the NE giving us a clear sky and a good, almost full moon, easily visible even though it's getting light.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Yesterday was mild but gloomy and uninteresting. First thing this morning it was calm, mild overcast and dry. We've just had our walk and it's still the same but the cloud is showing signs of breaking. The glass has risen slightly to 1013mb. The forecast is for bright overcast but a sunny day. The constant SW wind will be light to moderate and gives a high of 23C and a low of 15C with no appreciable chill. The outlook is for similar weather for the next five days. Barlick summer. (From the forecast we are lucky, other areas have far higher temperatures, forecast to be the hottest this year)

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
It’s only 10C for us today, and snow has fallen on our Flinders Ranges, with more to come.

I know I'm in my own little world, but it's OK... they know me here.

Never mind Cathy, it will soon be your spring and you can watch us sink back into the freezer!

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Lately, it has been 2-4 C as a low, and 12-14 C as a high. No central heating here, but dressed warmly, we only need the heater on for about an hour in the evening. The mornings we just suck it up and get moving. That is the way we live...Winter doesn’t last long here. We don’t need pampering with central heating...
