I've had me walk and a sit on traffic duty. A dull morning but quite pleasant sitting out in it as long as you're wrapped up well. Now for a spot of lunch.

I shall be in the shed working on my crosshead guides. Slowly forwards with no mistakes! The forecast promises an overcast day but dry and mild with only a light breeze. Sounds like good weather for a walk and some traffic duty!

I carried on with the guides. First I measured and marked and drilled the clearance holes for the 5BA bolts that will fasten the guides. Then I put witness marks on the bed and the guides so they can't be mixed up. One bolt position marked for each side, the bed drilled and tapped and the guide bolted down. Tomorrow I can mark the other four bolt positions and drill and tap them knowing they well match the guides. Quiet accurate progress..... Nice.

Morning

What a dull chilly day it was yesterday. In the end I met Jane at the cemetery in the morning leaving the afternoon clear for a spot of gardening. My sweet peas, beetroot, mange tout and potatoes are planted. The sweet peas are covered by a tent of netting to stop the squirrels pulling them out and diggin in the soil. These squirrels are becoming real pests. One this morning was trying to get through the netting covering the pond!

Today i have pilates this morning and yoga this evening. I also have to go for a blood test at the surgery, having now been on statins 4 months.thats about it, the rest of the day I will take as it comes

Have a good day all

Get Bob an air rifle and give him incentives for making squirrels want to be somewhere else!
I hope the blood test is OK. Should be if the statins are working....

Only three quarters of an hour in the shed this morning but it was 45 minutes of careful accurate work. First marking the position of the 4 remaining bolt holes by touching the casting using the 3.3mm clearance drill through the existing holes in the guides. Then drilling and tapping and as you can see the guides are fitted with every 5BA bolt exactly lined up. I shall look at the pedestal bearings tomorrow.....

Morning

Well it promises to be a sunnier day, the plants need some sun, but I see it gets windy around lunch time. Yesterday during lunch in the conservatory I decided the table needed attention, its a couple of years since I did anything to it. So i sanded it down and at correctly spaced intervals applied two coats of a satin finish varnish. It looked much better. Being in the conservatory it takes a bashing with the sun, plus I have numerous plants on it in the winter. Despite the table being covered it gets numerous water spillages, the few times I water them.

Today I am paying a visit to the wool shop in Heywood as I want some yarn for some crocheting. The weather in France promises to be good and as we will be there three weeks this visit I hope to get some sitting crocheting in the garden once tidied. We were having a visitor this morning but it has been cancelled. This evening is pilates and yoga, this afternoon a bit of sewing I think, or I shall oil the wooden plant troughs outside. It would be good to do them before we go away on Sunday.

Have a good day all.

Off again on Sunday Sue? I hope the crossing is kinder to you than last time.....
I shall be in the shed deciding where to go next. It is going to be non-ferocious whichever I choose.
No rain forecast but once again a sneaky east wind with up to -4C wind chill. I don't think there are any reasons strong enough to get me out in that. :biggrin2: (I find the cold winds affect me more now than they used to..... )

As you can see I changed my mind and started on the crosshead. I have measured up and marked from the actual guide, not the drawing. I have all my measurements and two dimensions done in the lathe. I shall go further with it tomorrow.

Morning

A bit late today, did not wake till 8.15 am, you will see why soon. I had a lovely day yesterday, bought my yarn in the morning and pottered in the garden most of the afternoon. I now have all but one of my geraniums in the greenhouse and the conservatory is restored to summer order. However in the midst of this I tripped in the garden and fell. My neighbour heard me and checked I was Ok. Just shocked and bruised . We had a chat and later I went off to my pilates and yoga class which I did with care, omitting several exercises which discovered tenderness, I did not know I had. To wards the end of the class my wrist started to really hurt, so badly I could not turn the steering wheel on my home. By 8. 00 pm I was lying on the bed sweating and feeling sick, by 10 we were in the urgent care centre, where we remained till 2.00 am. X rays taken and luckily nothing broken. So I now have a strapped up wrist for a few days.

This some what messes up my sewing afternoon plans with Maxine. I need to be able to try on the toiles I have made of my two dresses. Its my right hand, which is pretty useless at the moment. I need to wear something that I can get out of easily to try on.

There will be no other activity of note, certainly no pilates. Perhaps a walk, but not much time now this morning.

Have a good day all

So sorry to hear that. Wrists are tricky little beasties Sue as I am sure you know. I have been there and learned the hard way! Don't try to do too much but on the other hand keep up gentle movement as I am sure that helps in the long run.

Oh dear, that's not good! I don't suppose there is any point advising you to take it easy for a few days. :biggrin2: I tripped and fell whilst out walking a couple of weeks back and though I got away with a grazed hand and a bruised elbow at the time I started to ache all over within a couple of days. It took a week before I was back to normal.

Don't forget the Comfrey Oil and the Arnica Sue. Old fashioned but they do work! (Remember the old name for Comfrey..... Knit-bone.)
I shall be in the shed carving my cross head out. This afternoon I shall get my walk in the sun as I go to the Pharmacy for my Covid Booster. I shall shop for veggies in Town Square at the same time.

Morning

My friend offered me some comfrey to boil up and soak my wrist in but I declined as it would have meant her having to come out of her way to bring it. I think i have some arnica cream some where, probably in France :laugh5: today my right side is very stiff as is my shoulder, but this is only to be expected, I went down with quite a crash.

This morning is the dentist first thing, just a routine check up but I think the tooth he filled last time is on its last legs as it is sensitive when I chew. This afternoon Bob has his tetanus vaccination and I will go with him to get my cholesterol results . We shall call and see Wendy and Barry as its only a mile further on from the Doctors

I washed the fabric to make my summer dresses, the toiles having been successfully adjusted by Maxine. Unfortunately I cannot iron the fabric or use scissors to cut out the dresses, so probably something to take to France with me

It promises to be a nice day, have a good one.

Understood Sue and yes, falls can be complicated things. I still have some side effects from my fall over a year ago.

Image

Careful work on the crosshead and as you can see I have reached the stage where I can prove the fit in the guides but the top part has yet to be reduced from 5/8" to 1/2" so that it doesn't foul the holding down bolts. This was expected and will be addressed tomorrow.

I shall be in the shed for an hour before going to the Co-op for my early doors weekly shop. Later, after my second sleep I expect Robin my chiropodist who is coming to service me feet. After that I might do some veggie cooking, we'll see how the day works out!

Morning

Well my cholesterol result was down to almost a normal level. The note from the GP was to continue my lifestyle changes, my reply was I haven’t made any except taking the statins. Apart from a really strict diet there is nothing on the list to cut out. I already exercise, am not overweight, don’t smoke, don’t drink excessively, have a good diet etc….anyway its down. We went to see Wendy and Barry in the afternoon. My goodness they looked well and had just been out to lunch. You would never know the traumas the two went through last October to December. Wendy still does not have full mobility of her new shoulder but physio is progressing well.

Talking of mobility, i am still aching all over. My hand and wrist are now mobile with support but I can’t push, lift or hold scissors. I did manage to iron my fabric with my left hand. I remembered I had some electric scissors, bought when the arthritis in my thumb was bad, pre cortisone injections. I charged them up and managed to cut out a pair of cropped trousers. Sewing was then no problem. I shall continue with that this morning. Then its lunch at the Lake with Wendy,Keith, Barbara and Bill.

Not too bad a day forecast , rain due around lunchtime and early afternoon. Have a good day all.

Nice to see you working round the problems Sue, well done. What I and my disabled friends call buggering on!
I've done my shopping and put it away and I had a nice hour in the shed before that.

On with the crosshead. I think you can see what I did and where I finished up. I'm ready for putting the final touches to the crosshead but I think I might leave this where it is and get into the pedestal bearings.....

I shall prepare my 4 hour roast and have it in the oven before I go in the shad to make bearings for my crankshaft. Then, after second sleep, I shall brown the chicken and deal with it. Have a brew and then start cooking the veggies for the week. It's going to be a busy day but I think I took the right course yesterday when I decided to go easy as I had a Covid booster on Thursday.
