I wouldn’t have called it well laid out when we last went, hopefully it has changed. It’s a marathon to get round, and pot luck if you find what you’ve gone in for.

Morning
Exactly Gloria, thats why I never went. On this occasion I could find what I was looking for. It was a reasonably successful trip.
Today Bob is out all day, helping to run a course on model boiler testing. I have plenty to keep me busy. I want to change and wash the bedding and think I will manage. Last night when I went to bed all swelling in my hand had gone down and my wrist support is now loose. Movement was free and relatively painless. I shall swap to the smaller support today . I have some last minute shopping to do for France and I shall start what little packing we have this visit. The weather there is much the same as here but more rain and just a couple of degrees warmer. After a wet winter they have had a wet Spring. This evening is zoom u3a wine appreciation. We shall be having a takeaway for tea to save cooking when Bob comes in.
Have a good day all

Good luck with the trip tomorrow Sue.... I'm glad your wrist is settling down. Give it every chance!
As promised, I have been working on the crankshaft bearings. First was half an hour of measuring up and planning. This included witness marks on the shaft to identify each end. Then the rest of the time was spent making sure the stock was square and dressing it down to the overall dimensions. Ready for the final cuts tomorrow.

I've almost finished cooking. My next appointment is snooker at 14:30. Ronnie v. Vafei....
Later, at almost 14:00. Everything done and cleaned up. The fridge is full of next week's grub! Now for a rest....

I shall be in the shed with my bearings this morning and then do very little today. I have several aches and pains, possibly booster related but I am not sure so I will play safe and stay comfortable!

Morning
We shall pack the car this morning then have lunch at our local pub before driving down to Coventry. We are spending the evening there and staying in their local Premier inn over night. Its Eve’s 14 th birthday on Tuesday so it will be nice to see her for a chat. Monday will be a leisurely drive to Portsmouth, probably doing a National Trust visit somewhere on the way down.
Have a good day all.

That all sounds sensible and relaxing Sue. I hope you have a nice trip (and a better breakfast experience at Premier Inn!)
On with the crankshaft bearings. As with yesterday, a careful measuring up and marking and then sharpen the 5/8" cutter before doing some careful milling. Still some fitting to do but basically we have pedestal bearings.

As it is a relaxing no action day I am going to manage without my wrist support. There are just a few aches, no swelling but a nice yellow bruise on the base of my thumb. I will keep the support handy for when I am more active . But it will be totally rested sitting in a car and on a settee most of the day

Sue, a good policy , removing the wrist support when you don't need it and very good for your wrist. I am sure you know about the role of 'Constructive Stress' in the healing of injuries like yours (and particularly in the healing of broken bones)
Gloria. Good for the booster. I shall post in medical matters about mine and the aftermath.
Today I shall be in the shed for an hour and then taking it easy......

Morning
All good with the wrist and it will be another day without support. I think all the wrist strengthening exercises in pilates has paid off, much as how I hate them. I still have tender ribs but my main concern is my knee cap which is clicking and is certainly not right, though it is still surrounded by bruises.
Great afternoon yesterday with the family. Nice and relaxing and a lot of fun chatter. We walked the mile down here to the premier Inn about 10.15 pm. We use this particular hotel a lot, and know it well. None of the trauma that we had at Southampton. We shall breakfast at 8 and leave about 9.00. We are only a couple of miles from the M40 motorway which will take us to Oxford and then on to the A 34. We are visiting a National Trust place but also want to buy a toaster for France. They are not big on toasters and our two old ones there do not take the size of slices of french ordinary loaves. We want a 4 slicer that takes variable thicknesses. I also want to visit the M&S outlet in Portsmouth for jeans for France
The forecast is rain this afternoon and relatively calm . Have a good day all

Best wishes for a good night and breakfast and a good crossing.
Fitting is a slow and careful job so don't expect a mountain of work! I started by ensuring that the bottom parts of the bearings are properly bedded in the casting and marked with witness marks identifying their place and orientation. Then I turned to the caps and did the same job. I have got one side fitted and will finish the other side tomorrow before drilling the bolt holes and oil passages.

I woke up thinking about the channel crossing and how Bob was going on....
I am progressing as usual and will be in the shed at 6AM working on my bearings. No Reason why I shouldn't have a walk at midday. But apart from that I shall be taking it easy, still very much aware of the booster.
(Why do they always ask if you are taking blood-thinners?)

I presume it's so they ensure the injection site doesn't bleed.

Or is one of the side effects of the booster that it acts as a blood thinner?
Whatever......
Continuation of the top bearing caps. First some old fashioned finishing with the file and then drilling the 4BA clearance holes and the oil passage. Witness marks enhanced on the caps and then the stud hole positions marked on the casting and centre popped. Tomorrow I shall drill and tap them.....

Arrived at the house just after 10.00 . We unpacked , had a cuppa tgen went to the Supermarket for fresh fruit , veg and some fish for tea. Tge prices hit us straight away, two small pieces of salmon was 10 euros.
On arriving we found the wisteria in full flower and on entering the house we found a nice surprise from Laetitia on the table. The lawn is several inches tall, I also have some veg up.
This afternoon its back with the wrist support whilst I oil the garden bench ready for warmer days and I shall prune the infected ends of the miniature peach trees. They get a horrible bug that attacks the growing point. We shall also be putting away the every day kitchen crockery we have brought from home, having downgraded the set we used when we had visitors. The set we have here, like the washing machine, is 18 years old and like the washer bits keep breaking and they ar showing their age. One of the first tasks this week is to bet a new washer.

I shall of course be in the shed doing my daily hour on the engine. The forecast is good so I might be out for a walk and a sit, I shall decide on that later. This afternoon I shall be using on demand to have a look at Ronnie yesterday evening.

Morning
We were in bed for 10 , asleep by 10.30 and slept till nearly 8.00. Yesterday I pottered at general tidying and putting things away, Bob mowed a track through the grass in the orchard. We don’t want to cut too much as there are natural ie not sown, wild flowers coming. My flower beds are not too untidy so big rush to weed them. Bob hopes to cut the lawn this afternoon. 19 degrees and cloudy is fore cast. We have not discussed other plans for the day yet.
Have a good day all
