Ruby is with us, collected Sally and her from Skipton this afternoon. Her mum sees her on the train in Birmingham and Sally meets her at Leeds. Isla comes tomorrow and then on Tuesday, Sally is taking them to Liverpool for a few days. I think for the girls it will be a shopping expedition. A bit later this month or in August we may take Finlay, will be different for him, Titanic museum, Western Approaches underground control centre which organised all the Atlantic convoys and escorts and the German Submarine after a trip on the ferry cross the Mersey.

My mother used to take me to Liverpool during the war. Train out there a ride on the overhead docks railway and a trip over to Wallasey from the Pier Head if we were lucky! In those days there were two ferries running, the Royal Daffodil and the Royal Iris. The thing I could never understand is how we could get lunch in a big department store off ration! I remember having a salad there with gulls eggs.
