Not sure how today will go with the forecast of thunderstorms. We asked to have our display undercover and have a spot in the ballroom but I imagine that many of the stalls and activities will be outside.

The roofers didn’t come yesterday. He had explained earlier in the week that he had a job to finish that needed a totally dry forecast and yesterday was that. However he turned up this morning, just one of them . He has worked through the rain and has just knocked on the door to say he has finished and everything is tidy. Impressive.

Sounds good Sue. Our forecast is for thunder and rain this afternoon.....
I shall be in the shed looking carefully at my bed fastened on the base before I go any further. I noticed last night that I had fixed it on the wrong way round but I don't think it makes any significant difference, only cosmetic and nobody will notice! Perhaps fry my sweet potato chips later,,,,,

I had decided to live with the fact that I had put the bed on the base in the wrong way but when I looked at it found that I couldn't cut that corner. I found that only a tiny bit of one of the holes would show so I drilled and tapped all the holes and fitted the bed oriented correctly. Then I mounted the two castings on a temporary bed for subsequent fitting. Next I cleaned the mill and replaced the vise on the bed using my ball bearing indicator to check it was square. I am ready to go forward now and I think the next stage is making the cylinder lids and fitting them.

Morning

It was an odd day yesterday. Being over organised as usual I have run out of the major jobs necessary before we go to France so I spent the day relaxing and pottering. I decided to sort out my sewing patterns as I have many that I will never use that I have been given or have come free with magazines . I can sell them on a website on line for a £5 each but I will probably give them to Maxine for her students to use. I also sorted out the material I use for toiles keeping big pieces and bagging up the rest to get rid of. Too small to give to the local primary school to use, I hope I can give them to a charity shop so that it can go with their waste recycling. I do not want to put it in the bin. Today I shall tackle the large basket that has scraps of other material .

Bob is off to the park but rain is forecast mid afternoon so he will probably be back early. Its roast chicken for tea.

I have had my walk and a sit on traffic duty. Very little sun but no rain close and feels like it could rain later this afternoon.

An hour in the shed with my castings and later this morning M&S call in to show me their new mobile Home......

Morning

So it didn’t rain till Bob got back from the park at about 4.45 pm. It was a short sharp thunderstorm and that was it, but it cleared the air . Today is a little cooler and no rain I think. I have pilates this morning, yoga this evening and if the weather holds we may take a walk to the bank to bank the large amount of park takings from yesterday.

I filled my day with a spot of drawer and fabric clearing plus washing all my dusters and cleaning cloths as there was a good breeze. I pottered in the garden and did a fair bit of just sitting in the conservatory. I pulled rhubarb and made a crumble for after our roast chicken and cooked enough rhubarb to have with yoghurt at lunchtimes this week. All in a good day

We are promised rain this afternoon from 14:00 Sue. Yesterday was very similar to your experience. I like the sound of rhubarb crumble....



The first job was to grind out the aperture in the target face of the bed to a size that will accept the casting for the piston rod gland. Then start on the process of making the two lids for the cylinder. Good progress and I am ready now for turning the inside face and the external rim. But that's for tomorrow.

Yes we are forecast rain after 2.00, Stanley. The forecast had not updated on my ipad when I was writing before. Ed is on his way back home, Eve is having two days in Seoul due home late tomorrow. I know little about the swimming except the relay 400 m final where Coventry was 8 th out of 16 cities and nations with an excellent time. I believe Eve was swimming in that I will find out more when we see them next Sunday. Meanwhile her sister Briony has had a lot of Mum time with a show in London, the cinema, shopping and a curry take away, which she loves. I think there will be a very tired family in Coventry but what a time to remember

I shall be in the shed for an hour as usual this morning working on my castings. If the weather permits a walk at midday but these showers might be a bit loose!

Morning

A wet start to the day but a dry afternoon I think. We just managed to avoid the heavy rain when we walked to the bank yesterday, getting a little more than damp in the last 800 m coming up the hill out of Rochdale. It was a late lunch as we decided to go straight after Pilates so we didn’t leave till 11.30 am. In the afternoon I tidied out another sewing drawer.

Today I have washing to do then a trip to the tip to take my waste fabric scraps. Nothing else planned apart from pilates and yoga in the studio at tea time. Bob’s car is being collected by the garage at 9.00am to do the sat nav update that they could not do last week.

I forgot Barbara and Bill are coming round this afternoon to finalise their visit to us in France in August. Good job I have now remembered

I always remember one Sunday I was lying in the bath at King Street when I suddenly remembered I was supposed to be doing the photographs at a musical performance at Nelson and Cole College. It was a long time ago but I still remember the shock! (I was forgiven....)
I shall have a nice little hour on the lathe pushing my castings forwards..... Nothing else really hits me and the forecast is rain so perhaps poetry reading or Arthur Ransome.

Morning

Well Bob had his sat nav updated and Barbara and Bill came. We had a lovely long chat ,though little was discussed about France . We finalised arrangements in the last ten minutes before they left. Eve arrived home last night. She whats apped me just as they were landing. She sounded excited to be home.

This morning is the hairdressers, this afternoon a sewing session with Maxine and at teatime zoom pilates. Its a busy day and no time to think about the weather. Have a good one

More work on the front cylinder lid and the steam chest. They both need glands making for the piston rod and the valve rod. Both needed drilling for the rods and the pockets for the glands themselves. I have reached the stage where the cylinder lid gland is made and fitted tomorrow I shall do the same for the valve rod and both of them will need drilling and tapping for final fitting. A good hour and a quarter with no mistakes.

I shall be playing out in the shed as usual. Later this morning I shall order my meat and go to Town Square for my veggie shop.

Still on with the glands. I finished turning the valve rod gland and then measured and marked both of them for drilling the holes for the studs that will hold and adjust them. A good hour and quiet steady progress.

I had an excellent afternoon with Maxine and now a plan of action for a pattern making task whilst in France, should the weather not be too good. That will prepare me for a couple of sewing projects in the Autumn.

This morning I have a friend coming round to give me a pedicure and this afternoon our hairdresser friend Kath, is coming to cut Bobs hair and have a cuppa and a chat. This evening we are going to Tesco to buy some bits and pieces that we cannot easily get in France. French breakfast cereals are all heavily sugared , and their tea is awful…. I want to change and wash our bedding today too as it is the only really dry day before we leave on Sunday. I hate trying to dry a king size duvet cover in the dryer.

I've just got back from my walk and veggie shop. I treated myself to a salad butty from Barlick Bites and had a twenty minute sit on traffic duty. Now it's dinner time!
