Villagers hauling in a seine net to shore. Pure guess - I'd say perhaps Italy or Greece. Victorian?

That makes sense, I was thinking some of the clothing looked a bit Greek :good:

I have a nagging thought I've seen it before and it's a fishing boat they are hauling up the beach.
Not definite, I could be mistaken.

I've searched t'internet with Google Lens and it doesn't appear anywhere online. I have 3 other pictures that were with it, that look to be in a similar place. I will look at removing them from the frame to see if there's anything written on the back.

It looks to me like they're stretching out a net to dry or to do repairs on. We can see the rope edging that they're holding but the net itself was probably too fine for the old camera to capture. Other nets are lying as bundles across the beach. Could be somewhere more remote such as the Caribbean.

This was a bookmark in an old book I bought. Many years later, by pure chance, I found that it was a ship named General Mellinet of Nantes. Built in 1894, it carried nitrate from S America. Wrecked off Falmouth 1912(?)

I should have said for sheepdog controlling. Would be a good trick though if the dog could use it. :laugh5:

Yes Wendy. I got it in a workshop buy-out. I've been told it's mammoth ivory, never found a use for it.
