Morning

Yesterday went according to plan . Janes plane was on time, and we got back here about 6. At the moment we have no plans except today it is unexpectedly forecast to rainall afternoon and in to the evening. This is unfortunate as we planned to put the gazebo up this morning and have a BBQ for tea.

Another quiet night in the roof-space

Have a good day all

Good news on the cock loft! We look to be starting another sunny warm day.

Image

I mounted the base and bed castings on the baseboard and then fitted the cylinder. I shall paint the cylinder in place on the bed. I didn't want to start painting this morning so I addressed a matter I knew was going to come up.... I knew the crankshaft was going to be a bit short on length to enable the flywheel to clear the bed because my stock for the shaft was only just long enough. I cut one collar for the shaft and bored it the wrong size! I'll sort that out tomorrow morning.

You seem to be getting the weather we've been having for so long now. We have it warm now and to tell the truth it feels a bit uncomfortable.....
I shall be putting my chicken in the oven before going in the shed at 06:00 to do an hour on the engine. Not too sure about a walk, they are promising us heavy rain today! (So we shall be joining you)

Morning

Oh its been raining for weeks here too Stanley interspersed with a couple of really nice days to fool you, hence the tropical rain forest vegetation. Its warmer than Rochdale but 20 degrees is nowhere near the seasonal normal. We have been here nearly 4 weeks now and it has rained for at least three of them. The only really dry spell was in Bergerac. Today is expected to be dry and cloudy. Needless to say we still not be able to put the gazebo up as the lawn is now sodden. Yesterday, Jane did some writing she had to do to hit a publishing deadline, Bob laid some flooring in the entrance to the new room, and I put some pockets in the side seams of one of Janes dresses. We also started a jigsaw.

This morning we are off to the market at La Gacilly, then a bit of general shopping. Otherwise we will plan as we go along

I love the codicil on the roof Sue! Good news.

Image

I started by finishing the collar for the shaft and made sure that it was wide enough to make the flywheel clear the bed. Then after measuring I cut back the boss on the outside so that the crankshaft reaches through to the outside of the boss. Than I polished the whole of the flywheel and made it pretty. That got me to the stage where I can paint the cylinder but want to have a full shift to do that so I will address painting tomorrow. A nice productive hour!

Morning

It was an ok day yesterday, warm, dry and cloudy. We shopped and in the afternoon, the lawn finally dry we put up the gazebo in the garden in preparation for meals outside when everyone arrives, Wendy and Keith tomorrow, Barbara and Bill on the 17 th. Today we are going to Bayeux as Jane has not seen the tapestry. We are staying overnight and back here in the afternoon. Bob is off to the airport at Nantes for 8.10 in the evening to collect Wendy and Keith, as car hire now is one of the many prices that has shot through the roof. Barbara and Bill are coming by ferry so a hire car is really surplus to requirements.

There was no noise in the roof again, in fact we think the stone marten has also abandoned the barn as we have picked nothing up on camera. All our to-ing and fro- ing and going in and out of the barn during the day may well have disturbed them.

Have a good day all

What a good man Bob is! From the look of it, an efficient pest controller and also a reliable taxi service. Is there no end to this man's talents? I hope you have a good day.....

Image

I started the day by painting the parts of the cylinder that need it. Then I cleaned the end of the shaft and installed the flywheel using Loctite shaft fit. Then it was housekeeping, I changed the jaws on the chuck back to the internal one and then cleaned Mrs Harrison. That will do for this morning. a productive three quarters of an hour.

That was it for the day. I shall have an hour in the shed this morning and it will be on the non-ferocious castings and stock that are needed for the crank-bearing the crosshead and the valve and valve train.
After that it will be a day of doing nothing as we have an Atlantic Low moving through and it's going to rain all day!

Morning

Lovely afternoon in Bayeux. After seeing the tapestry, we walked around the old town and then paid our respects at the WW2 British war graves cemetery. It is something we like to do, especially to the graves of the un named . This morning we are making an early start to drive back via the beaches so prominent in the war.

We shall lunch on the way home and hope to be back by 4. Rain showers forecast at mid day here and at 4 back at the house. Have a good day all

Nice Sue, the war graves cemeteries are such a credit to the Commission. We are expecting up to 2 inches of rain here today. Deep Joy!

This morning I have been getting castings ready for the next phase, this includes putting a centre in the end of the rectangular stock that I shall make the connecting rod out of. As you can see from the first image, the flywheel is mounted and spinning beautifully and I couldn't resist demonstrating this!

Morning

It was a long day yesterday. In the morning we went to Aramanches and a visit to the ww2 museum there. We set off home at 11.30, stopped for lunch and back at 4 as planned. Bob left to pick up Wendy and Keith about 6.30, for an 8.10 landing. The plane was more than an hour late leaving Manchester so it was nearly midnight when he got back here.

This morning is misty but should become warm and dry with odd showers. I have some plants to put in the garden, the first of my redesign. They are small flowering bushes to go where the Asparagus bed was.

Otherwise just a quiet day planned d as I think we will all be tired. Have a good day all

I have spent this morning making the valve the right size and shape. You'd be surprised how many operations are needed! I am nearly there, only the width to adjust and then I can actually make it into a valve!

Morning

A nice relaxing day yesterday, we did nothing but sit, chat, eat, and drink. Today is forecast warm and sunny. Some shopping will have to be done this afternoon, but as we only have one car till Barbara and Bill arrive, someone will have to stay here. They were on the ferry last night but are doing a bit of site seing today, arriving here tomorrow.

Thats it, we shall potter all day no doubt. Have a good day all

Have a good potter Sue, you deserve it!

Image

This morning I started by reducing the width. There was so much to take off the casting I opened the valve chest up to check and 7/8" from 1 1/8" was correct so I cut that. The next job was to swap to a 1/4" cutter and cut the groove in the valve that holds the driver bar. I did that and finished ready to cut the recess in the bottom of the valve needed for it to function. That's for tomorrow. This morning was a good error free hour and a quarter.

Doing some research ready for the Australian lady who is making a quick visit to Earby/ Sough/Kelbrook on Friday and tracking down where the houses were that her family lived in at the beginning of the 20th Century so we can do a tour. I've been struggling with one of them, looking at maps, census records, electoral rolls etc. I should have known the answer would lie right here on One Guy!
I have a marriage certificate for Australian Beverly's grandparents Tom Fenton and Elizabeth Garsden at Kelbrook Church on which Tom's address is given as Waterloo Road and Elizabeth's as Heather View. An address search for Heather View in the 1921 census throws up 2 households at Sough Bridge, 97 and 99 from which I assume it has to be on Colne Road but the old numbering system. Its taken me a couple of hours to come on here and look up the number of Graham's shop at Sough to try and work out from that where 97 and 99 were.....its spot on of course, the shop was 99 Colne Road.
Was the whole row Heather View Stanley?
I didn't get my grass cut!
