I've been to ATS in Colne and booked in for four new tyres, two were advisory on the MOT and the other two are getting near to being worn out. They're big tyres (225/60/17) but was surprised by the price, there's a discount for buying multiple :good:
Very happy with the 'budget' tyres, been out in the dry and the wet. Slightly more noisy at 70mph than the previous tyres but I can live with that :good:

Thank goodness I don't need tyres...... Mind you the cross I have to bear is paying for castings!
I shall be in the shed this morning for an hour as usual working on my valve train..... Nothing in the forecast to stop a walk today. We shall survey the piste later this morning.

Morning

I did a days sewing yesterday, its amazing how many silly mistakes I made considering it is my main hobby. I put it down to not making anything complicated for nearly 3 months . It was nice to be cool after last weeks sticky heat.

Today the boiler is being serviced and I want to finish weeding the front garden. I gave up last week as it was too hot. This afternoon we are off to see our friend Wendy whose husband Barry died in August. I spoke to her briefly on the phone on Monday but this will be the first time we have met since he died. Lots to be said, I think. Then this evening is zoom pilates.

Have a good day all

Going to be a much cooler day today Sue.... (Frost in the North of Scotland last night.)

Image

More work on the flat link. It's now fitted at both ends in the valve train. Then I went back to the eccentric strap. I modified the shape and marked and drilled for the 5BA bolts that will hold the two halves together. I am ready now to split the strap and bore it to fit the eccentric. That's for tomorrow. A successful and error free morning.....

Our weather station showed 7 overnight and 14-15 degrees yesterday. Its due to be a little warmer at 16 today but that will because the sun is out more than yesterday. We had thick cloud and rain yesterday.

Same here Sue. Not long now until the dreaded heating season!
I shall be in the shed for an hour with my engine. I'm nearing completion with this engine and slowing down a bit. Do I really want to spend £600 on a new set of castings? Trouble is I am certain that it's this hour in the shed each morning that keeps me going! If I am right it's cheap at half the price..... :biggrin2:

Morning

What a beautiful sunny day yesterday, warm but not too hot. We sat in the garden several times when we had a drink. In the morning the boiler was serviced first thing and as we had to clear the airing cupboard for the engineer we gave it a good clear and clean afterwards.. I did a bit more weeding then Bob and I did the couple of miles walk to pick up the car. We had a lovely long visit with Wendy spending most of the afternoon with her.

This morning is sewing I think then a little preparation for tomorrows u3a art class. If the rain is not too bad, its light drizzle now, i will go in the garden and cut back the last of the dead plants as the brown bin is emptied this morning.

Have a good day all.

Morning Sue! It's very dull here but we have a promise in the forecast that it's going to fair up. It doesn't look very promising at the moment.....

More work on the eccentric strap. First I put two witness marks on to ensure the two halves can be easily oriented. Then split the two halves using a slitting saw, I can't trust my eyes to saw straight!. Then a clean up, fit my boring head and set the strap up for boring to fit the eccentric. Once I had that done I walked away from it because it was almost knocking off time and there's no rush! An error-free hour so it was a good one.

I'm back from some light shopping, a walk and a sit on the bench watching traffic. Edie's mother (I don't know her name) came and sat with me and we had a good catch up... Nice sun, a bit of cooking and now I'm thinking about a dad nap!

I shall go in the shed for an hour boring my eccentric and then do early doors shopping although all I need is some milk really. I have a social engagement with Mo and two great grandchildren in Town Square at 11:00.
Eating less is working but means I have to put a lot of care into planning shopping and menus as everything lasts so long! I have ordered my meat as usual but it will go straight in the freezer as I shan't need it until next week.

Morning

Lovely day yesterday, I spent most of it gardening and the back garden is now looking very tidy, just two more areas to clear after the brown bin is emptied again next Thursday.

This morning is u3a art, then lunch with Wendy and Keith. I set my alarm for 6.15 as I tried online to get a GP appointment as my GP wanted to review the medication he gave me before went away. I was unsuccessful, all appointments gone by the time I typed the word REVIEW as a reason for the appointment. I tried earlier in the week to no avail. Bob tried yesterday as he has a wheezy chest, no success either, he had to phone 111. This is getting ridiculous. Ah well better luck next week.

Morning Sue..... Your account of trying to get to speak to a doctor isn't simply ridiculous (though I agree with you0 it's frightening as well.... The greater part of the value of your interaction with a local doctor is that he knows your history and what's going on now destroys that. Best of luck.....

Image

Just one image. The strap is bored and fitted to the eccentric. We are ready to go forward with the rest of the valve train. I put the boring head away and set the mill up for normal milling because that's where we are going next.#
I've done the early shopping, still £20 despite the fact I didn't need anything!

Perhaps I'm a special case but my doctor made a house visit on Monday. Wanted to see me in person just like the old time doctors did. A good session Mrs P said I wish she was my doctor. That says it all I think.

I had a phone call from Barnoldswick Health Centre yesterday, they wanted to book me in for my 6 monthly blood tests. The surgery was closed yesterday afternoon for staff training so it may have been part of that. I normally get a letter and have to call to make my own appointments.

No probs with routine checks etc, we get a text and often a time to phone. Results are easy and rapidly obtained usually within 3 days. It all works great, if you can ever get an appointment

Morning

Another decent day yesterday and one forecast for today. Its Saturday so Bacup market. We are out with Claire and family for a meal tonight, Bob is out this afternoon giving a Northern Association Model Engineers award to the young engineer of the year . He is under 25 and has been nominated by his club in Stapleford. . I shall potter around at home. I may just cut back the last hosta to be tidied up and put the bits in a bucket till Thursday. I also have more runner beans to pick .

Morning Sue..... That looks like a nice day ahead of you. Hope it all goes well.

I concentrated on the connecting rod this morning. First some delicate taper turning of the rod to get the cross head end down to 1/4" as this is the best way of marking how deep to cut the flats on the end of the rod and it looks so much tidier afterwards. Then measuring and marking the rod for correct length and I finished with it ready to finish and fit tomorrow. Once more, delicate work done without error. Such a relief given the fact I don't see straight!

I shall be in the shed for an hour as usual but in a change from normal routines I shall have to go veggie shopping in the Co-op when they open at 10AM. Normally I would go to the Town Square t5omorrow but it's going to be very wet so I don't want to be shopping in that! I shall be at home cooking veggies instead.

Only two simple jobs this morning, drilling the hole for the crosshead pin and adjusting both ends of the rod to give the right length and fit. Dead simple but scope for such big mistakes so all done very carefully. I ended up with it ready for fitting.

Morning

That was a nice relaxed day ( apart from the shopping!). We had a lovely evening with Claire, Adam and Erin, and Bobs presentation went well. Today will be another quiet day for me as I have nothing planned and Bob is out at the park all day. Its a bit grey, damp and windy at the moment, so its ironing and take the day as it comes.

Have a good day all.
