Lunch out for me today with friends from school. As most of them are Leeds based we met at Buon Apps, an Italian restaurant by the river in Otley. Nice place, good food but quite expensive! Just a one off event though and I did have a win with my Premium Bonds this month! It was great to get out for a drive in my lovely Panda, I haven't enjoyed driving so much for years! The River Wharf was quite high and moving fast!

It's good to treat yourself every now and then :good:

I shall have to treat myself to some food soon. BT coming tomorrow is going to clash with veggie shopping and cooking so at some point I shall have to become imaginative.... :biggrin2:
So I shall go in the shed and do some eccentric turning, there's a treat for you! (I hate the job actually, all out of balance and interrupted cuts. Mind you, the end product is beautiful!)

I cooked some bangers for an emergency supplement if needed!

Only one image needed this morning. I was all ready and started into turning the crank pin. I had one problem, the carbide indexed cutter on my parting tool shattered and I had to fit a new one. Apart from the no dramas, just very thoughtful and careful cutting (with a lot of stick out!), 10 thou a time and keep going until I had a .375" crank pin (3/8") and at that point I polished it with emery strip and knocked off.
I have had worse mornings!
Just think of all that metal that I took out with the milling machine!

Morning

Lovely day yesterday and I did a big garden tidy managing to clear areas sufficiently to spread the 10 bags of manure delivered a few weeks ago. Its all looking tidy again and the flowers we still have , mainly nasturtium and fuchsias still look colourful. I got a last picking of runner beans before I pulled them, which we shall enjoy today .

This morning I shall do the ironing but we are out about 1.00pm to go to Bolton where we are meeting my sister and my cousin Trish for a viewing of Emmas short film on the Pendle witches. Its the premier showing at the Bolton International film festival, along with other short films. Its a bit event for short film makers who depend on such things to make their name. Emma has made three now and the other two did really well giving her a boost to her career. Sadly she is stuck in Edinburgh where she now lives. The weather was so bad yesterday there were no trains across the border and although she managed to get as far as Glasgow she had to turn back. There will be other viewings elsewhere but she so wanted to meet up with all of us. Emma did say I would be on the credits 😳
as her genealogy researcher but we shall see.

I shall put the slow cooker on before we go out as it could be 6.00 when we get back. Have a good day all.

Today I shall put my chicken in the oven before I go in the shed to start on the second crankpin. No second sleep as I expect the BT man at 08:00. I'm hoping we can have a fairly painless exercise but can see some disruption ahead!

The task this morning was the same as Saturday, set the stock up for eccentric turning the crank pin. Once again it took me almost an hour, it isn't easy! I got there and set my parting tool to cut the pin, 10thou at a time but it was too close to knocking off time to start what has to be a concentrated hour of turning! That's for tomorrow after BT have been.

Morning

That was a very pleasant afternoon. I think there were 7 short films in the viewing that we went to. Most were made by individuals but Emmas and a couple of others were bigger productions. We were impressed with THE WITCHES DAUGHTER and are keeping our fingers crossed to see if she gets any of the awards her film has been nominated for. I missed my name on the credits although Bob saw it.

I researched the Nowell family so that the age of the key male character could be determined for casting. It was quite complex as three generations had the same name and two died in the same year, it became very confusing but the age we came up with seemed to fit correctly. We got a lot of help from several experts at Preston records office but several books that Emma used had conflicting information. She struggeled to get her head round the lack of precision in family tree tracing. 😳Another good little film, which I can't remember the name of was a diary of plane spotters during lockdown. Funny in places, sad in others.

Today is zoom pilates this morning from the new studio and this evening zoom yoga. However this afternoon we are at the funeral of one of our neighbours who died 2 weeks ago.

Have a good day all

I am ready in the shed for starting eccentric turning of the crank pin. My fibre is installed, all done and dusted but I have another call on my time today. Because of the BT work yesterday I have missed out on my veggie shopping (I roasted my chicken) and so I need to do veggie shopping and cooking today. This is complicated ny the fact that Susan and Mick call in this morning to wash clothes before Susan flies out for a visit to the US first thing in the morning. To complicate matters further she has an appointment in Clitheroe this afternoon. So, I shall shop early doors at the Co-op for veggies and start cooking them as soon as I get back abandoning second sleep!
It will all work out OK...... :biggrin2:

Morning

Busy day yesterday, it passed very quickly. However, although warm, it was a miserable grey day with mist settling in about 9.00 a.m and not lifting and I think today may be the same.

I have no plans today except continuing with my sewing tasks and pilates and yoga in the studio this evening. I have now drafted out the sleeve for my jacket and am ready to assemble the rest of my toile to check the fit

Have a good day all

Morning Sue. I have been to the Co-op and done all the shopping I need to get me through the week and into next, It's all put away and it cost me over £30!
I was looking at the two crankshafts again and feeling very smug. They aren't finished yet, there's a long way yo go, but they are pretty bloody good and I don't think many blokes my age will have done that this morning! :biggrin2:

I am declaring a holiday from the shed today. I was a bit weary yesterday and think it was a consequence of two very full days with lots happening. Later this morning I shall be cooking the veggies I bought yesterday morning.....
After that I shall take a view but it will almost certainly involve a dad nap!

Off back to bed after my breakfast, almost two hours earlier than usual, let's see if sleep can cure my weariness!

Morning

Its a bit of a wet day today and I see our heat wave is over with températures falling throughout the day. This morning I am off to the hairdressers, it always rains when I go there. This afternoon I am visiting my friend Wendy. I shall sort out my winter clothes throughout the day and pack away the summer ones in a suitcase to go in the loft. Bob is off to Warwick for the day to help set up a stall on the Midlands Model Engineering Exhibition and will be back sometime in the evening.

Have a good day all

Sorting summer from winter clothes sounds like a good call today Sue as the temperature plunges to more seasonable levels.
Going back to bed instead of into the shed was a good call for me. I went to sleep immediately and woke feeling refreshed after 2 hours straight deep sleep. I'm back up now, I have had a wash and a shave and when I have had a drink of hot tea, I shall be into veggie cooking. It's all laid out ready for me on the bench. There's nothing wrong with me, I have had two very busy days and needed to get properly rested. Onward and upwards!

I'm sat down and have finished cooking veggies for next week, All tidied up and stuff put away and I have had a nice light lunch of freshly cooked veggies. That went well, I might even consider a dad nap now..... :biggrin2:

I feel much more active today, having an easy day was a good plan, I shall do similar today but will be in the shed for an hour from 6AM. Then back to normal with a midday walk in the sun! I might have a brief spell of cooking, my sweet potato chips need making......

One very simple task this morning, make and install two interference fit buttons in the gap in the slugs so that when I apply pressure to the centre for the next cutting process, that pressure doesn't distort the shaft. They had to be exactly -505"wide. Not as easy as it looks but they are both done and fitted. Now I can think about the next stage, muck-shifting to get rid of the excess metal.... I don't mind it taking an hour.....

Morning

I seem to have changed over to my winter clothes not a moment too soon. Outside it is 3.7 degrees with a maximum of 11 forecast late this afternoon. Its dry and we have a nice sunrise developing.

I kept busy yesterday and Bob got back about 7.00 pm. I had a vey pleasant visit to see Wendy, who chatted continuously. She seems to be getting all paperwork in order and is slowly getting Barrys things sorted. On the way there I took a bag full of rejected but good clothes to the Barnardo's shop. As I gift aid, they checked my details asking for my post code and announcing that I was Mrs Potter. It took me some time to convince them that I was not, that I had lived at that address for over 50 years, and that there is no one called Potter who lives any where near us. Eventually the manager stepped in and said she would contact the database people and sort it. I think some one must have miss typed the post code at some time. I just wonder what the error implications are on a wider scale.

This morning is art at Haslingden. Its not a taught class today, but a workshop to do our own thing. I wonder how many will turn up, its a bit worrying. I have no plans for this afternoon, a walk may be nice. I see the leaves have started to change colour this week

Have a good day all

Morning Sue.... Yes, the leaves will change quickly I think, they've been living on borrowed time with the Indian Summer! We have 3C here in Barlick as well, it won't be long before we have a frost!
I shall be walking at Midday as well, it looks like a nice sunny day!

I shall be in the shed at 6AM starting on the job of reducing the shaft part of the crankshafts to a 1/2" bearing and a 3/8" shaft. No walk today as it's going to be raining, and no cooking as it's all done so an easy day......

Today I started cutting out the remainder of the excess metal from the stock. I started by doing a complete re-sharpen of my Cobalt HSS cutter, I wanted to cut the metal out, not tear it away which is what tipped tools tend to do. I got set up and took 50thou cuts until I got close to 1/2" which is the finished diameter of the shaft in the bearing. Then I stopped and had a mini clean up and left the final cut until tomorrow. You can see from the colour of the chips that I had been running hot and want to have a cool shaft to do my measuring on for the journal. I took out a shovel full of chips harvested from the floor and the lathe....

Morning

Lovely day yesterday. Art was successful with 6 of us there which included one new lady, although that seems to be it for the time being. We have moved into a smaller( and warmer ) room which is also cheaper. 🤞After lunch Bob and I did a very pleasant 3 mile stroll past the waterfalls in the dell and on to the small lodge where the reflections were beautiful. The heron and the white goose were both sitting sunning themselves on the small island but still’no kingfisher though, we have yet to see it. We walked back along the old railway path where the birds very noisy , and I tried my bird app to listen to the calls and identify what was there. My phone did not seem to pick much up, I don’t think the microphone is as good as the one on my iPad.

This morning is u3 a art at Todmorden where we are using charcoal, one of my favourite mediums, then its lunch at the Italian on the Lake. I then have an asthma clinic appointment and routine blood test at the other side of town. Afterwards its a quick dash home for a wash and change out of my art clothes into something nicer before we drive down to Coventry where we are spending the weekend. Bob is manning the model engineering stall at the Warwick show whilst I indulge in time with the family.

Have a good day all
