The most likely identity is rutilated quartz. A quartz crystal in which black needle-like crystals of rutile have grown from a single point. Rutile is titanium dioxide, TiO2, which occurs in various colours such as black, red and yellow.

I have to take that as the answer. It was described as ghost quartz on the site where I found it.

The term ghost quartz implies clear transparent quartz with something visible inside it. So your pic shows one specific type of that. Some people collect only crystals with other materials inside them.
