Photographing the interior of a cottage in Gisburn, it's being used as a holiday let. I did intend to use natural light, that went well
Fortunately I took a couple of studio flash heads with me, it was a very gloomy day. It'll do the job.

I know what you mean when you talk about being a matter of fact family when it comes to dealing with something like Bob's possible diagnosis. I remember when I got my results and they told me I had a tumour I was surprised by how calmly I took it. It wasn't at all like the TV drama we have been conditioned to expect. I still 'have cancer' but it only ever occurs to me as a fleeting thought. Like everyone else, I have everything crossed for Bob......
(This doesn't mean I don't recognise the difference between my cancer and a really serious one. I had the example of Janet..... It doesn't get any more serious than that!)
I shall be in the shed for an hour with my castings and after second sleep I shall cook the veggies for next week. I have taken last week's chicken out of the freezer to thaw out. I shall roast it tomorrow.....
The veggie cooking my constitute my meaningful exercise for the day even though it looks as though it could be dry.....

I was late in the shed this morning, other matters got in the way.... but once in there I cracked on with tapping the stud holes in the back of the cylinder. Then I found the 4BA X 5/8" studs and fitted them. Next I made the small adjustments necessary to the hole pattern in the lid and got that to a fit. I put the witness marks on the lid to aid fitting and then found my 4BA die as the first thing I have to do tomorrow (as usual!) is to extend the threads on the studs, at the moment the nuts run out of thread before they tighten the lid down. That's OK and was expected. It can wait until tomorrow.....

Morning

Things are moving fast. Bob has his MRI scan today and his CT scan tomorrow. He was told it was so his case could be discussed in the weekly meeting on Friday. 🤞. We have the dentist this morning, Bob is a scale and polish, mine is the same plus redoing the quickly done filling from last June when out last dentist closed down. The filling fell out within a week and could not be redone as the dentist had closed and we had not yet found another. Bob will go straight from there to Rochdale infirmary for his MRI scan. Tomorrow the timing is less pleasing. We have to be at Fairfield hospital for 8.30. Although its only a few miles away we will be crossing Rochdale in rush hour. Judging from my experience of travelling that route daily to work we will need to leave home before 7.30 pm.

Yesterday we managed to clear the leaves from the front garden and cut a few things back. It was drizzling at the time. Today promises to be drier so this afternoon I shall sweep the path, hoe the soil and continue the cutting back . I have pilates and yoga in the studio at 5.15 pm

Thats our day. Have a good one.

You mention drizzle yesterday Sue. We had almost the same here, I describe it as being permanently damp. It never actually got to rain but in my opinion is just as bad. Give Bob my best wishes, I shall keep my fingers crossed.....

Bes of luck to Bob. Kev was correct in that the waiting is the worst bit. Once you know you can make a plan.

For me it is my armful at blood donors today.

I will also be calling at the the Coinstar machine at Asda on the way back. I emptied one of our Bosom Friends collection boxes and have a lot of change to convert into bankable notes. Post office wont take a lot of change over the counter.

Thinking of you both Sue.
I'm back on the train and on my way home. It's a lot less stressful boarding the train at Tiverton Parkway than a busy city station. We are heading towards Taunton now.

Nice day for it Wendy, cool and dry. I have just finished cooking veggies. All my tackle put away, the veggies stowed away in the fridge and now I can think of having a read of 'The Offing'.

Now my veggies are cooked and safely in the fridge I shall be putting my chicken in to roast before I go in the shed this morning. After an hour in the shed engine fitting I shall have second sleep and when I get up brown the chicken and deal with the gravy. Then I am fit to face another week at least!

Only one task this morning, adjust the length of thread on the 4BA studs that attach the rear lid, Test fit the lid and then test fit the cylinder so far. All is well. I could have crashed on with fitting the crosshead slides but had breakfast to cook so I knocked off early. The chicken is in the oven roasting and all is well. no errors. It's a good morning.....

Morning

Bob went for his MRI scan but they could not do it is as he has a bit of metal from a drill bit in his arm. The remains of an accident he never told me about. Luckily they did the CT scan instead and so no early trip out is required this morning. If the MRI scan is needed its possible they will arrange to have the small bit of metal removed, it being only a simple job. I suggested it may be worth having it done anyway in the future.

Our trip to our new dentist was Ok. He is a vey nice man and very understanding of my dental woes. He did a good job replacing the filling, and I have a follow up appointment for a scale and polish. On return I hoed and swept the front garden so that looks tidier. Sometime after the brown bin has been emptied we can do the same for the back garden.

This morning, depending on the weather we shall walk to the bank to take the Halloween takings for the small train in the park. This year its a phenomenal sum of over £700 and at £1 a ride that is a lot of rides. Whilst in town we will have a coffee and go and have a look at the town hall square. The town hall is being renovated which has included pedestrianising the area around with fancy paving. The fencing hiding it all has just come down. I believe the building itself reopens next year revealing some magnificent art and sculpture work inside. Well worth a visit to see it, everybody.

Have a good day, Bob thinks its meant to be dry, good for our walk.

Morning Sue.... I've always liked Rochdale Town Hall, a lovely building. If you can ever get access, the gents toilets are particularly magnificent Sue! Sorry to hear about the lump of steel spoiling the trip for Bob. I hope it doesn't affect the Friday conference and their possible verdict. Did you give him a hard time about the fragment of drill? :biggrin2:

No cooking today but I have to remember to order my meat and get some milk later.....
I shall be in the shed for an hour with my engine and then after second sleep I will have a letter to post and some milk to get so a short walk is indicated.

I decided that the next task was to make and fit the crosshead guides. First I had to do some careful measuring and check that I had the dimensions right. Then some careful milling in the VM and at knocking off time I had two guides, the right size and profile. Tomorrow I shall drill the bolt holes and start transferring those positions to the crosshead bed ready for drilling and tapping. Very small cuts and I can hardly see my marks. Always a big sigh of relief when I have got to this stage!

Morning

I had a very interesting afternoon yesterday with Maxine. I have lots of new skills to tackle to be incorporated into my next garment, a ladies shirt with unusual shaping as pin tucks. That will keep me happy on dismal days. Otherwise not much more has happened here, we are hoping that means the MRI scan is not needed at the moment. The advice from our surgery is for Bob to go the urgent care centre to have the piece of metal removed, but we will defer on that for the time being.

I have art at Haslingden this morning, otherwise a sewing day I think. Rain is forecast this afternoon its clear and very windy at the moment. Talking of rain, yesterdays fine drizzle was very penetrating, working its way through my not so very waterproof coat by the time we got back from the bank. I then discovered I had run out of wash in reproofer, now ordered from Amazon. Thats a job to be done before our trip to Edinburgh.

Have a good day all

Still got everything crossed for bob..... Getting rid of the bit of metal would be good but if Bob is anything like me he'll want to get one hare out of the way before setting up another.....
Off to bed now, I hope the day goes well with you.....

I've just got back from posting a letter and going to the Co-op for milk and bits and and pieces. It's not raining but it's gloomy and damp and we have a strong wind that's giving us a -4C wind chill. It will be much colder tomorrow.....

I shall be in the shed as usual for an hour with my engine. After second sleep I have an appointment for an eye test and then another appointment in the Town Square to meet Muthomi who will bring Kahara and lily with him and we shall have fish and chips. That will be a treat! (Both the fish and the kids......)

I started by refining the finish on the guides I cut yesterday. Then some careful measuring and marking and I was ready to drill the clearance holes for the 5BA bolts that will hold the guides on to the bed. Next I put witness marks on the guides and the bed and marked the end two holes for the bolts and tapped them. Then I mounted the guides on the crosshead using those two bolts and at that point I declared it knocking off time. Tomorrow I shall mark the remaining four holes and drill and tap them. Doing them this way ensures that they will be accurate for the guides. Steady quiet and careful progress with no mistakes. Another good morning!

I have had a good eye test. No change and nothing wrong in my eyes. I met Mo and the kids in the Square and we got fish and chips. We came back home to eat the fish and chips because it was so cold. The kids are a delight but turn everything upside down in the house. They have just gone home so I can sink into my usual torpor!
