Morning

I am writing this in the dark as we had a random power cut at this end of the house about midnight. It happens every now and again and Bob has never been able to identify the fault. As the fusebox in the garage it will be a cold start to the morning for Bob, who has just woken. Talking of Bob the piece of metal has been successfully removed and it was only a 5 minute job. He has two stitches that will be removed next week , now we await an appointment for an MRI. Today he has to have gastroscopy to confirm the anomaly on the CT scan is nothing to worry about . Everything is being rushed through to be ready for the weekly medics meetings on Friday. Its all 🤞crossed now….oooooo I have lights . Ooooogone off again

This morning we are popping over to Burnley to see our patisserie friend, to order some cakes for the u3a Christmas wine do here, and buy Christmas selection boxes for the grandchildren…..lights back on Bob is not allowed to eat after breakfast so it will keep him busy. His appointment is at 3.00 pm. I shall take and fetch him as he will be having sedation. I will probably miss my zoom pilates at tea time but there are much more important things at the moment.

Lights still back on . It seems the dishwasher restarting tripped things a few minutes ago . Anyway thats our day. Life is very busy at the moment. Have a good day all

Lovely news about Bob Sue. Not out of the wood yet but this is a big improvement. Bob will be a lot more settled in his mind. I know how it feels, his track has been very similar to mine when they first told me I had a tumour..... I hope Bob's outcome is as good as mine has been (So far!) :biggrin2:

Later..... I have had a good second sleep and am now improving the shining hour by having a sock wash. I am also having a hot drink and when the wash is finished and dealt with I shall pop to the Co-op for milk and some other small essentials. I was going to leave it until later in the week but looking at the forecast for the next three days I see nothing but wind and rain. We are evidently going into an Atlantic pattern for a while. That being the case, better to go out in the sun and dry cold I reckon.....

I shall be in the shed at 06:00 as usual, enjoying myself doing the initial turning of my flywheel this morning. Glad I did the shopping yesterday, the rain starts around 07:00 and lasts all day so I shall stay indoors and watch it from the warm!
(There are advantages in being old.... :biggrin2: )
Later, at 05:00. Such a nice time of the morning. All my communication tasks fulfilled, three meals divided up into pots, one in the microwave for breakfast and the other two in the fridge ready for later in the day. So now I can sit here with a fresh pot of tea, listen to the morning news and play a few games of Solitaire. (Janet once told me this was good for me, she called it 'Brain Gym'..... :biggrin2:

This morning the task was to finish turning the flywheel and boring it ready for painting and then fitting it on the crankshaft, a very close fit which meant it took more finishing. Finally I put the inside jaws back on the big SC chuck.

Morning

Well we have found the source of the power cut…faulty dishwasher . As Bob went to turn it off this morning it was only half way through its cycle and then we had another power cut. A service will have to be arranged.

Good news from the gastroscopy, there are no abnormalities apart from a mild hyatus hernia so now we can get down to the heavy stuff. The MRI scan is next week and then we will know the extent of the cancer and the treatment proposed. Hopefully early days. This has all come out of the blue and we are still in shock . Thank goodness for antibiotics that had a side effect bad enough to warrant a trip to the Urgent care centre. Its been an unpleasant three or four weeks .

This morning is art at Haslingden, the last of the year so we are having our traditional lunch out . There have only been a few of us this term with much long term ill health being the reason. Anyway with numbers down a couple of husbands are joining us for the meal which should be a pleasant affair, just one course for us as we have a big Christmas lunch tomorrow. It will be mid afternoon when we get back

Its warmed up a little and is raining; back to normal December weather. The big pots of geraniums have survived the cold out in the greenhouse so they can stay there a little longer. Have a good day all

Morning Sue.... I read the message as we have to keep everything crossed still! Best of luck to Bob.
We have strong wind and heavy rain here in Barlick and I am glad I did my little bit of shopping yesterday. I don't need to go out for anything!

You know where my first thoughts are this morning...... :biggrin2:
I shall be in the shed at 06:00 and will take a view then on where to go. I suspect I might plump for a coat of black paint for the castings. I like it to get 'weathered' as I do the fitting. These engines with concourse finish on the paint job look so artificial to me. Besides, the old-timers making full size engines painted castings at this stage to stop rust attacking during the build.
I never went out yesterday but stayed in the house. I shall see how things look after second sleep but suspect it will be raining, in which case I shall cower indoors! :biggrin2:

My first action in the shed this morning was to have a deep chip chase on the lathe, VM and drill and then a really good clean of Mrs Harrison. I considered oiling it as well but decided I had done enough housekeeping. Next I stripped the castings down and cleaned them ready for painting. I finished after three quarters of an hour, I could have started painting but there is no rush and I have left that for tomorrow....

Morning

Bob says thank you for your kind thoughts. Everything will go quiet now for a few days, its been a busy week here there and everywhere, sometimes twice ! We are trying to get on with things as normal so today is u3a art followed by lunch out, this time with the art group as a Christmas do. It will be mid afternoon when we are back.

Yesterday after our lunch we realised we were within walking distance of Clairé’s in laws so we had a walk up to see them. Only Jackie was in but we had a pleasant half hour chat over a cup of tea. Paul had gone out walking, he likes walking in the rain apparently and boy was it raining . Back home Bob eventually managed to get through to Whirlpool about the dishwasher. Its still under warranty being only 9 months old. Anyway its back to hand washing up until the 18 th. I won’t be cooking any elaborate meals that generates lots of washing up. Also yesterday Bob finished setting up my new laptop so the old one is ready to erase and re set up for Briony.

I think its meant to be drier today . Have a good day all

Morning Sue.... It may be less wet than yesterday but I don't think we are going to have anything like a good day. I hear what you say about Bob and I shall stop talking about it. We just wait for the next piece of good news and believe me I am certain that's what it will be! Have a nice day and don't eat too much lunch.... :biggrin2:

I must be lucky with dishwashers, our 12 year old Bosch is still going (it'll probably break now :biggrin2: ). The one we had, prior to that, was left in the house my son bought from me. He replaced it a couple of years ago as the pump failed (it must have been 15 years old), it was cheaper to buy a new dishwasher apparently.

Our last one was like that , probably 15 years old if not much more but when it did go wrong it couldn’t be repaired, so the insurance gave us a replacement. This is the replacement. We have one in France that had been turned out of a friends house during a kitchen refit. We have had it nearly 20 years and still going strong…TOUCH WOOD

I thought something had gone wrong with my dishwasher yesterday. When I opened it up in the morning some things were still stained and dirty. I decided to give it a good inspection once I'd eaten my brekkie and had a strong coffee. That's when I discovered the dishwasher tablet still in its wrapper! I've been using gel ones for ages that have no wrapper.....(that's my excuse anyway).

Perfectly cromulent I'd say. I did a clothes wash recently without soap powder.

Where do you get insurance on a 15 year old dish washer, and what does it cost? How does 15 years premiums look compared to the cost of a new one? I have one which came with the house. I didn't notice it was there for a couple of years. No idea what to do with it - though the family used it once about ten years ago. I can do the job in the time it takes to load and unload. That's my bit towards saving the planet I'd say.

It was insured from new and policy ongoing. Its a good one we get repairs….it had one or two and replacement if it can ‘t be repaired. We have the same deal on the washer

I had to look cromulent up again David..... my memory is shot!
I don't have a dishwasher. Like David I would have no use for it. I put my three meals a day in Sistema Noodle Pots and put them in the fridge first thing in the morning. When I need them they get 4 minutes on high in the microwave and after use a wash out with warm water. That's routine dishwashing done. My pint pot gets sterilised when I bleach the sink and after that only gets swilled out. When I am cooking I clean up as I go along and again, never generate a dishwasher load.
I favour Bosch for the clothes washing machine. (and no insurance.....)
Back on piste..... I think I shall be painting castings this morning. The plan is to do that today and oil machines on Sunday. I shall try to stick to it!
Doubt if I will be going out because once more the weather forecast is for a wet and windy day.

I allowed myself one small diversion, I cleaned up the vintage carpenter's square and oiled it. We are responsible for the condition of our tools even if, like this square, it's doubtful if I will ever use it.
Then I turned to brush painting my castings.... If you're thinking what a lousy painter I am you're right! However, doing them at this stage means that much of my overpaint is cleaned up during final finishing and fitting and the end result is what I am aiming for which is not concourse condition but a workmanlike protecting of the castings. Just the way the old engine builders used to work.....

Morning

Nothing wrong with using a dishwasher or washing up by hand, we do both . When Bob worked away and I worked my breakfast things were cleared away in to the dishwasher before I went to work. There was certainly no time to wash up and I hated coming home late after teaching evening classes to a messy kitchen. The dish washer only went on twice a week then. I love cooking, as does Bob so it can generate a fair bit of washing up, some is washed as we go along. I believe it has been shown to be economical on water and electricity but I may be mistaken but those pots always come out gleaming , rarely any traces of stuck on burnt food that can build up over harbouring sites for nasty bugs. I love my dishwasher and don’t in any way feel guilty using one.its excellent when cleaning the kitchen as cooker and fridge bits and pieces come up like new.

This morning is Bacup market, then at 10.30 I have zoom art with Briony. I bought her some special paints for her birthday so we are having a session on how to use them. I am meeting my friend Gill for lunch, just a light one not the meals I have had the last couple of days. I have not seen her for nearly a year as we are no longer in the same pilates class. I think my ex pilates teacher is joining us too. This evening we are looking after Erin whilst Claire and Adam go to a friends for a Christmas meal . We will eat together and then Erin can put up our Christmas tree, a week earlier than usual. So I shall leave Bob to get the tree, decorations and wrapping paper oit of the loft. I think there will be time for a game or two as well

Have a good day all, I think it is a wet one.

Morning Sue. No need to defend your use of the dishwasher, it's a personal choice. Sorry if anything I said sounded like criticism, it certainly wasn't intended as such...... :biggrin2:
I am back up after my sleep and will now think about cooking the beef mince I got last week but didn't cook because it might give my blood sample a creatinine reaction which complicates things....

Were there insurance premiums to be paid monthly / annually for the fifteen years? Was there any time limit at all for the policy - otherwise it sounds like appliances for life ?
