Sorry Gloria but no again! I can see why you went there. The shape you have noted was essential for it's original function. It was made out of heavy galvanised steel almost a hundred years ago.

Actually no Ian but I must give it to you. These are discs for the Servis Recorder which was the mechanical predecessor of the modern tachograph.
I must have a think and find another.......

I don't know Wendy. All I know is that it isn't man-made. In fact I know so little about it I should call a halt now.
All I know is that scientists are baffled by it. It was found in Bosnia and has been described as of natural origin and about 3 million years old. The fact that it is almost a perfect sphere is unexplained.....
Sorry, I know this is very unsatisfactory.... HERE'S where I found it......

This has my ‘radar’ up. I can’t ever remember reading that human footprints , 3 times normal size, have ever been found.
And the sphere is not 10 feet across… look at the leaves (grass ?) in the background.
.
Can’t wait for Tizer to reply.

I've seen the Bosnian stone balls on tv and there's a few of them.

Large stone balls have been found in many places. Sometimes they are with other ancient architecture and are there generally regarded as man-made although it's possible they were found and subsequently incorporated into the architecture. On the other hand, stone balls in a variety of sizes and formed naturally are not uncommon and they are called concretions. They form within sand or mud by the accretion of minerals from the surroundings and remain there as the sand or mud becomes rock. Eventually, over geological time, the rock strata are eroded but the concretions are often harder and are left sitting there like the one in the photo. The onion-like peeling surface is typical of concretions because they were formed as layer upon layer. Ones the size of cricket balls and occasionally footballs are found in Northumberland.

It's a black snake, (probably poisonous) on a bit of grass, probably in Australia. Three quarters of a point please. :extrawink:

You're right about Oz and it being poisonous Ian so yes you can have three quarters of a point. But what about the exact name.... We may have to wait for Cathy to tell us....
