Sorry Ian but no to both. You're right in thinking that it's mill related.....

This one is too esoteric. Very few people would recognise it. It is one of the bronze segments that made up a Universal Metallic Packing for a steam engine cylinder like this one on the Bancroft Engine..

I have a copy of the company's records. This packing is numbered 21239 and it was made in 1923 and supplied to the Trawden Mill Company at Black Carr Mill Trawden. It is one of the segments from the front HP cylinder packing.

Next object anyone?

No Tom, it's part of a steam engine, the Whitelees at Ellenroad in fact. The question is what part?

I think this is too difficult. I shall knock it on the head at dinnertime.....

Sorry no Peter. It's the piston valve out of the Whitelees engine.
Next one anyone?

Go on Kev, tell Stanley what it is called, and you can Google it to find out what it does.

A ball reference pin?

Yes Kev, commonly known as an Icky Ball.

Yup. The pin is fitted into a precision reamed hole.
The ball can then be indicated true to the spindle center line even when at an angle.
I have one in me old toolbox somewhere...

Morning Mick! Ah, it's to do with precision. I don't do that level, I leave it to the tool-room! :biggrin2:

Either the predecessors to plastic Rawlplugs, (other makes are available) or a bit more exotic, primers for explosive charges?

Neither of those Ian, once again, they are mill related.
