It dried up briefly at 14:00 so I had my walk. Then the rain came in again and it was still raining at 20:00. Still rain first thing this morning and the glass has fallen to 991mb. The forecast is for a showery day. The wind is a brisk SSW gusting to 35mph giving a high of 9C and a low of 5C with a chill of -4C at times. The outlook is changeable, at the moment Xmas Eve could be clear, sunny and frosty.
05:20. Back from a mild dry walk under 100% overcast. There is a brisk wind but it doesn't feel cold.

Yesterday ended up a wet day it was still raining at 20:00 but by first thing this morning it had stopped was drying up. I have had my early walk, its breezy, cold and dry. We have broken cloud, a few stars visible. The glass is up on 998mb and still rising slowly. The forecast is for a cloudy day, Dry mainly but the chance of showers and sunny intervals at midday. The wind is a constant moderate SW gusting to 35mph giving a high of 7C and a low of 5C with as much as -5C windchill now but gradually reducing through the day to -3C. Feels cold all day. The outlook is for similar weather next week. Xmas Eve and Day are forecast to be sunny and frosty so we may see a white Xmas but frost and not snow.

Yesterday ended up cold and dry. At 20:00 we had a few spots of rain but nothing significant as the sky was clear. This morning first thing we had an overcast sky a cool breeze and it was dry. Just popped out, still the same and a cold breeze. The glass is up on 1003mb but falling. The forecast is for the cloud to become heavy rain around 9AM this morning and rain to persist for the rest of the day. The wind eases from moderate to light and swings all round the compass, mainly easterly and northerly. The high is 6C and the low 3C with a -4C chill first thing. The outlook is changing, at the moment Boxing day looks bright and very cold, Xmas day could be overcast.
05:00. Back from an early walk. Luckily the wind had dropped but even so it is cold. The sky is overcast and it's very quiet.

Welcome to the solstice, first day of Winter but it doesn't feel like it really.

Its not something we could have planned for is it?

I don't know about that. It's one constant we can rely on as long as we keep orbiting our Sun.

Yesterday afternoon started dry but deteriorated unto drizzle as it got dark. At 20:00 it was damp but perhaps drying up. First thing this morning the sky was clear and it was dry with a light breeze. I've just looked out and it is the same but perhaps some thin cloud coming in. The glass fell yesterday but started to rise during the night and is on 1002mb this morning and still rising. The forecast is for a dry cloudy day. The constant WSW wind is light to moderate and give us a high of 6C and a low of 3C with a -3C chill most of the day. The outlook is for a clod rainy day tomorrow, a clear bright and cold Xmas Eve and a quiet overcast Xmas Day then back to mixed unsettled weather.
05:05. Back from an early walk. Only one star visible so I suspect it's clouding over. A light cold breeze but it's dry and quiet. Only one thing of note, someone in a car with the engine running in the Pioneer car park. Seems a bit strange....

It was dry yesterday and at 20:00 we had a clear sky with a good half moon but first thing this morning it was overcast and very light rain. Still very light rain and overcast. the glass is on 1005mb and seems steady. The forecast is for rain until early this afternoon and then it clears to cloudy. The wind is a constant moderate NE giving a high of 4C and a low of -1C with a -5C wind chill most of the day. I think you can work out the consequences of that without any help from me. Tomorrow will be sunny dry and cold, Xmas Day dull and clouded but dry and Boxing Day we can expect rain again. Have a Cool Yule!
05:15. A very quiet early walk, calm, cold damp but not raining. 100% overcast and doubtless rain is imminent.

Yesterday was great for anyone who enjoys damp gloom! It was still drizzling at 20:00. First thing this morning it was calm, dry, cold and clear and it hasn't changed since. The glass is up on 1017mb and still rising. The forecast is for a clear cold day. The wind is a constant moderate NW giving a high of 3C and a low of -3C with a -4C wind chill all day. It's going to feel very cold all day, never above freezing. Tomorrow is going to be similar to today but more cloud. After that all bets are off. The story from Boxing Day and Sunday is very strong wind and heavy rain and no great improvement beyond that.
05:15. Back from my first walk of the day. It's calm dry and clear. The wind hasn't got up yet but even so it's a sharp frost. Far more preferable than mild gloomy and wet!

Yesterday was perfect, cold, bright and dry. At 20:00 it was calm, cold and dry with a clear sky, still the same first thing this morning and no change since. The glass is up on 1028mb. The forecast is is for a dry day, clear and sunny this morning but cloudy later on. The wind is a constant westerly and is light all day but rises later. The High and low are 3C with as much as a -4C chill. The slight rise in wind speed later in the day is a clue to what's happening, by tomorrow we will have a full blown Atlantic storm that will last for two days so expect rain and high wind for two days and then changeable winter weather!
05:00. Back from my early walk. It's calm clear and cold with a sharp frost. Very quiet, just one dog walker. The air is like wine, a perfect start to Xmas Day.

Not Pennine weather, more west Lancashire weather, but it’s beautiful here, crisp white frost, lovely sunrise turning into a bright sunny day.

It was a good day again yesterday, apart from a spatter around 14:00 it was dry and still calm and dry at 20:00. First thing this morning was windy and wet and it's still the same. Yellow Warnings for wind and rain today as we have an Atlantic storm coming in. The glass is falling and is on 1014mb. The forecast is for rain all day, heavy at times. The constant WSW wind is strong and gusts to 60mph at times tonight. The high will be 6C and the low 1C with over -6C wind chill at times. Not a good day and tomorrow is the same but colder and snow is forecast. The rest of the week is drier and calmer but colder. Welcome to late December!
05:10. I've had a very short walk just to get a few lungfuls of fresh air. It's horrible out there, cold, wet and very windy. my advice is stay in if you can!
Just heard the Shipping Forecast, it started with warnings of severe gales in all areas and falling pressures. That's about the size of it. I'm glad I'm not out at sea.

So far the day has been better than expected, the promised rain is yet to arrive, the ponies are still outside and I'm just back from a refreshing walk.

I have to agree Wendy, far better than the forecast. I was thinking about you last night....
Yesterday was better than the forecast but at 20:00 we had heavy rain and strong wind, Bella had quite obviously arrived. This morning first thing it was calm and not raining, I think we are in the centre of the depression. Since then the wind has started to rise again and it's raining again. My glass is always pessimistic when we get below 980mb, this morning it shows a hell of a drop to 963mb and still falling, I checked Wendy's weather station and she says 972mb, it's very low and still falling. The forecast is for rain at first but increasing amounts of snow as the day goes on. The wind is a constant SW, strong with gusts to 45mph but not as savage as during the night. The high will be 3C and the low 0C with a wind chill of -6C at the moment. The perceived temperature will be below freezing all day.
The outlook is for drier but colder weather. Deep Joy!

Really Maz? All right on Xmas cards with the Robins·
I've just had a very early short walk. The wind hasn't risen yet and we have a break in the rain so I grabbed my chance. It's cold, breezy and a solid overcast but at least it's dry for a while. All I am after is some lung fulls of fresh air!
I've been looking at the Met Office site and the reason why there are four yellow warnings is that they are national. When I really dig into them only the ones for wind and snow and ice apply to us. (But that is an elegant sufficiency thank you!)

Just had a second walk and the sky above Barlick is clear. We have a cold wind but things could be much worse. I fear it's kidding us though. The glass is still falling but more slowly. I fear the forecast is correct, we get the nasties a bit later! If we do I hope you aren't caught out in it.

I've just heard the lady from the Met Office saying that storm Bella is past. My barometer is still falling and is matching Wendy's almost now with 961mb a very low figure. (28.61") These both match the met office surface pressure chart. I think the lady is speaking for the South of England.
Later at 13:30. It's stopped raining so I am off out for my walk!

If there was any snow in Barlick I missed it. The first thing I noticed is the barometer, it hasn't moved since yesterday. It's on 961mb. Wendy is on 968.5mb that's 28.6". So we are all on about the same figure. Point is we are still under what is effectively the centre of the depression. Later at 05:00 Ronaldsway reports 966MB and that's at sea level.
I got caught in the rain yesterday afternoon, I was ten minutes too late to get the benefit of a dry spell. At 20:00 we had steady light rain. At the moment it's calm and dry and as you see above the glass is on 961mb, very low again. The forecast is for a dry overcast day. The wind is light and variable and tends mostly to the north giving a high of 3C and a low of -1C with a chill of -3C at times. The effect is that it will feel like below freezing all day. The outlook into the New Year as similar weather to today but without the yellow warning for snow and ice which doesn't apply in Barlick.
05:50. I've had my early walk. It's dry but overcast and we have a bitter light breeze. Anything that caught the sleet shower yesterday has ice on it but it isn't actually freezing. All in all a very cold morning.
