This morning's job was to cut the bottom brasses to shape and fit them on the bed. That involved careful measuring and marking, patient small cuts and finally some tidying up, fitting and checking that the crankshaft fits and we can move forwards. The last job was to put witness marks on the brasses so we can be sure they will always be fitted correctly. That took an hour, now for breakfast!

Morning

We voted days ago, a postal vote . Our biggest concern is getting George out. Its a shame that Labour always seem fit to put forward a non Rochdale ( or anywhere near ) resident. Out of our long list he is the only one who does not have a local address.

Today we shall walk to the bank and hope we stay dry unlike last week, or yesterday when July 1 st brought 13 degrees and continuous rain. This afternoon I shall continue my sewing, I made progress yesterday . This evening is pilates and yoga at the studio.

Have a good day all

Morning Sue.... Unfortunately today will be, in many ways, a re-run of yesterday. The prevailing NW wind won't help. Nevertheless I will be trying to get a late morning walk in and I hope yours remains dry....
Have a good day and keep warm!

If you don't think that Paul Waugh is local enough for you - then you must be hard to please. He was born and brought up in Spotland, but failed to be selected for the May byelection in favour of Pendle based Azhar Ali. That went well didn't it ? He's favourite in the betting at the moment at about 9/4 on, but it would not be tthe first time Galloway had won when unfancied. It will all be very interesting.

You beat me to it David. For the record Azhar lives 15 miles as the crow flies from Rochdale, 24 miles to drive by road which is a feature of the local landscape. I doubt if many candidates would get elected if they had to be from the actual Parish as a pre-requisite.

Our candidate in Pendle and Clitheroe, Jonathan Hinder is a local bloke born and bred and he still lives in the constituency.

Our last Labour MP, Gordon Prentice was a Lewisham resident until he was elected and he then bought a house in Barlick. Scottish though so a bit of a give away that he was an off cummed un! :extrawink: :laugh5:

I'm not sure if I shall be in the shed. I overslept this morning and I am running late. I might ditch the shed. I shall see where I am at 06:00!
Later this morning I expect a visit from Margaret and Mick as they fly out the day after tomorrow.

This morning I measured and marked the top brasses for the clearance holes for the 4BA studs that will fasten them down onto the bed and drilled them. Then I made sure there was enough room for the nuts to turn on the studs. Next I marked the bed for drilling tapping size for the studs. set it up in the pillar drill and drilled the holes. I shall tap them 4BA tomorrow. Now it's breakfast time.

Morning

Our Labour candidate gives his address as Richmond . I can only go off the information given on my postal voting form. But thank you for the information . I feel better about that .

This morning there are no plans, but this afternoon we are picking up our widowed friend Wendy ( I describe her thus as we have three friends called Wendy) and we are going to the funeral of an ex colleague of both of us from Rochdale college. If I get back in time I have online pilates at tea time. Rain forecast as on and off showers during the day. Yesterday ended up rather nice.

Have a good day all

Sorry to hear you have a funeral to attend Sue. Not very happy occasions and always cold, no matter what time of year! (At least, that's my experience...)
We too are looking at a forecast day of rain but we might get a let off because we often get the east coast weather and today That's better than the west coast. Here's hoping!
I hope you keep dry and have a good day.... :good:

If you were unaware of Paul Waugh's back story, then the Labour and Cooperative Party (in the historic birth place of the Cooperative movement) can't have done such a good job of campaigning then? Then again it would be of little interest to the 30 % (about) of the electorate for whom Gaza is the most important issue.

I shall be in the shed at 06:00 working on my crankshaft bearings. After second sleep there is only one matter of interest, to walk up to the Rainhall Centre and cast my vote for the Labour candidate Mr Hinder.
Looking forward, tomorrow is going to be a very happy day for me and one that I didn't think I would live to see. :biggrin2:

Morning

We haven’t seen a single campaigner, apart from Georges crowd who were being very selective and only knocking on our Asian neighbours doors. Our leaflets were in a bulk of mail that had arrived whilst we were in France. We didn’t read them all admittedly but one caught our eye which basically asked us to Vote tactically and get George out. We did so let’s hope we have. Not our normal vote so no knowledge of the back story of the candidate

Yesterday’s funeral was OK as funerals go. We didn’t know anyone except the immediate family and the two people we took. Wendy is in her late 80 s and 40 years ago when I worked at Rochdale college , apart from Clive whose funeral it was, all our other colleagues were much older so probably no longer with us. The wake was a very nice buffet meal and we were home by 4.15 pm. Thankfully, though cold, the rain held off.

This morning is the last Haslingden art until September. Some are going out for lunch but Bob and I have plans to meet our friends from Stalybridge for lunch at the Lake. This is a meal we have been intending to have since this time last year.

It's due to be dry, and windy. Sun at the moment. Have a good day all

Morning Sue. Thankfully we have no reason to vote tactically in Barlick as long as you want a Labour MP!
You don't surprise me when you say the funeral was cold. My heating was on again this morning and last night I lit the fire in the front room, it was miserable! Soon cheered up though with a very small fire taking the edge off the chill.
Have a good day.....

First job was to tap the holes in the bed for the studs that will hold the top brasses down and fit them. Then adjust the fit and tighten the brasses down before setting up under the pillar drill, drilling a pilot hole and then boring the brasses to accept the crankshaft. Then open up the oil holes and I finished up ready for the final massaging of the brasses and fitting the crankshaft. So far it all looks good. Now for breakfast.

And there you have the situation in Rochdale. The betting says Labour will win, but a clever polling company analysed things yesterday, and said the seat was 'too close to call'. So - getting 5/2 for an even money chance is what gamblers call "value".

I can't be bothered now but there was a time. . . .

PS - I'm beginning to think that George might upset the odds yet again. We'll soon find out.

Today is a special day because as a historian I can't allow myself to miss any of the news of what looks like a historic Tory defeat..
I shall be in the shed at 06:00 ready to do useful things to my engine but nothing else matters today really beyond the political news. Remember my age..... I was taking an interest in politics in the days of Atlee, Bevan and Bevin and even though I predicted this collapse when I saw the policies Cameron and Osborne were pursuing in 2010 I didn't think I would live to see the day. :biggrin2: :good:
