Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
How dare you impute Barnoldswick's reputation like that?plaques wrote:Is yours anything to do with Stephen King and aliens? Barlick is just the place for this type of "Mumbo Jumbo".
Very good suggestion with the crop circle theory, but, no.
Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
I can imagine lengths of ribbon being housed on those spool thingies.
I know I'm in my own little world, but it's OK... they know me here.

Clues.
Not sat on a mirror.
There's two rows.
Edges are toothed.
Most households will have one.
David. The mark left by a heavy drum of bitumen resting on warm tarmac?

Most households will have one... is it a shaver, even tho I can't imagine that it is because it would be on it's side ??

Good thinking, Plaques. But, no.plaques wrote:David. The mark left by a heavy drum of bitumen resting on warm tarmac?
Eletric fire element?
Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Sorry David No.
Its getting late so time for another clue.
You might get your tie in it but not your fingers.

Is it Fred Goodwins favourite tool - the shredder...?

I'm voting for the shredder, too.
Back to the bitmac... it's on our road (Lockfield Drive)...
Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Postman Pete's got it. The blades in a domestic paper shredder. It was only while clearing out some of my old dirty £20 notes that I realised than the metal bit would jam the cutters. So beware!

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
My last and final guess.
A mark left by Alison's bicycle wheel after you had inadvertently reversed over it with your car.
Not that you were to blame. Oh no. Who left it leaning on your car anyway?
Someone must have picked it up and left it there!.
A bit like the car I didn't see.
Came out of nowhere.
Hit me and disappeared.

Love it, I can't cap that, much better than the truth!plaques wrote:A mark left by Alison's bicycle wheel after you had inadvertently reversed over it with your car.

(Have you heard about the lady who ran across the road behind me whilst I was reversing into a parking spot?
I stopped the car, but she carried on and collided with the back of my car... she maintained she was perfectly all right and declined medical attention or going to A&E (until several hours later...). In the following days, she carried on as normal with her job.
In spite of three reliable witnesses who'd seen what happened and some CCTV footage of the incident my insurers paid out several thousands without contesting her claim for compensation...)
I'll wait awhile before the reveal on the bitmac (in case someone picks up on my latest clue).

Imprint from one of those "thumper" trucks that create echoes for producing seismic geological maps when they are surveying for oil/gas/treacle or whatever is under Barlick?

Core blimey! Some very inventive answers.chinatyke wrote:Imprint from one of those "thumper" trucks that create echoes for producing seismic geological maps when they are surveying for oil/gas/treacle or whatever is under Barlick?
Afraid the truth is a little more prosaic.

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Round thing , looks like a car steering wheel , but could be a cover over a turn-cock for water (unlikely ) , my first guess was a redundant coal-hole , but I didn't think many under pavement basement cellars for coal existed in Barnoldswick - with most stores being in the back alleyways.
