I don't know but the upright part of the symbol is a perfect cross section through the steel rail used in British railway track.

The badge was the emblem of the Datong Locomotive works when it was given to me in I think 1989 by the CEO of the company when he visited Rochdale as part of the towns twinning and came to see the Ellenroad Engine. They were still making steam engines then but now have moved over entirely to electric locomotives..... I think they have a different name and logo now.

I think it should be Kelbrook, but I don't recognise it from the photograph.

Your exactly right Wendy. The picture was labelled as Kelbrook in the newspaper report but was actually at Sough and the action by police was centred on Sough Bridge Mill.
