Sometimes we have episodes like that Sue that aren't helped by pressing on regardless! No shame in cutting down on activity and giving our bodies space to do a bit of healing/recovery. Be kind to yourself and I hope you feel an improvement tomorrow!



This morning I milled out the pocket in the eccentric strap that will take the link that connects it to the clevis in the valve train. All very difficult if you can't see straight! Then I had to cut down the stock strip supplied to make the link itself. All this entailed two trips to the tool and cutter grinder to sharpen cutters and then some careful high risk milling. I'm ready now to make the link. I'm looking forwards to breakfast.

I shall be in the shed at 06:00 to pursue my connecting link in the valve train.....
We are promised a dry sunny day so a walk looks like a possibility later this morning. (Walking in the rain is not attractive to me these days.... )

The job this morning was to bore the eccentric strap and make sure it fitted the eccentric. That's done.... tomorrow I make the link. I had to bore the strap first so that I can accurately measure the link. Now for breakfast!

Morning
It was a pleasant afternoon yesterday with Wendy and Keith. We don’t often get a chance just to sit and natter for a couple of hours. This morning is art at Haslingden with our favourite visiting artist for a demonstration. We struggle on even thought there are not many of us left in the group. This afternoon I will do either a bit of gardening or a bit of sewing. Its due to be dry and quite warm. Have a good day all

Later this morning Wendy's Colin will be calling in with a part of his woodturning lathe that needs modifying. Nice to be useful!
After that it looks fair so I shall have a walk.....

JUst one task, take the link forward between the strap and the clevis on the valve rod. Careful measuring and marking and then drilling the 5BA clearance holes in the link. Then marking and drilling the strap using the link and finally drilling and tapping that hole, Countersinking the hole in the link and fitting the link to the strap. That was a fiddle! All told it took me an hour and a half to get to here. Now I want breakfast.

Friday but no art today. We are lunching by ourselves at the Lake as Wendy and Keith have family over from Geneva, Barbara and Bill are in Brighton for a 100 th birthday party. We shall go to Bacup market as Bob is away this weekend helping man a stall at a Model Engineer fair. There will be no more gardening for a week as yesterday I filled the brown bin again. It’s all regrowing as fast as I clear it. It’s got to slow down soon. Have a good day all

Colin called in at noon and I was able to help him by doing a little job on the lathe. In return he helped me by taking something off my hands that was causing problems.... Nice when we can help each other....

Bob has up and gone to Warwick where he is manning a stall all weekend for the Model Engineers. I decided to stay at home, normally I would have gone to Coventry but everyone is in Cambridge for a big weekend swimming gala. I am taking myself off to Manchester for the day, a bit of shopping and a visit to Central library for a bit of research. Tomorrow will be a domestic one. Have a good day all

I started by cutting the link down to length and shaping the end that will fit in the clevis. Then I reduced the 5/32" rod to 1/8" and threaded the end of it that fits in the clevis. Next I bored the stock for the clevis and drilled and tapped it 4BA for the rod. All done very carefully and checked and re-checked. That's how I have to work these days to avoid errors! We have progress and I am looking forward to my breakfast.

They were originally rescued from destruction by Wilfred Spencer and he kept them in the cellar at Colne Library. When he died the new incumbent thought they were rubbish and skipped the lot. Helen, Wilfred's wife, managed to save some items and she gave some of them to me..... So the maps themselves have history......

It was the volunteer project to index and catalogue Wilfred Spencer's collection which first took me to Colne Library. It had been sitting in store at the Lancashire Record Office since his death.

Where I used to do my homework in the 1950's. Looked just the same as in this photo, and the surprisingly comfy chairs look to be original. Adjacent to the historic site of Peterloo.

I've certainly not seen anything to match it being built today.... but I am not an expert on these things!

From the look of it the rest of the morning is a wash out so I may do nothing other than read, TV and sleep.....

An hour and a quarter spent on work on the clevis.... I finished up ready to move forward to finish it tomorrow. I wasted a bit of time by cutting the slot 1/16" instead of 1/8" and had to go back to do it again. No matter, the mistake wasn't terminal and we are on track. It just took a little longer...... Now for breakfast!

Morning

Yes that part of the library is unchanged but the rest of it is more modern with glass panelled lifts and stairways. Somehow it all seemed out of place amongst big heavy doors stone walls and pillars . The archive/Local history section is very open, well lit, and seems more user friendly. The cafe is now placed in that section and can be accessed through a side entrance on to the street. I had my light lunch there. I was thankful for the side entrance as there was an anti war demonstration going on in front of the main entrance when I left. Apparently inside was done up about 10 years ago. It must be about 15 years ago when I was last in there.

My visit was not very successful and I gleaned little more than I could have got on line but a few hints how to access their full catalogue on line to order stuff for future visits. I am trying to find staff records and minutes for Booth Hall hospital where my half great uncle Harry Widdup was a surgeon and paediatrician in the 1930s.

My shopping trip was equally unsuccessful as all the clothes shops were full of Christmas wear rather than some nice stylish autumn clothes. There were no black boots in my size and at my price level anywhere from what I could see. It was however a nice day out. I caught the bus to Rochdale in front of our house, just as it stopped raining at 9.40 am. Its a round the houses route taking about 20 minutes. Its a new route and I was interested to see it now passes the hospital.I walked up to the railway station, about a mile, as the tram is not running into the town centre at the moment. I just managed to catch the Clitheroe train which stopped at Victoria. A quick change of platforms put me on the tram to St Peters Square( which was in fact the Rochdale to East Didsbury tram ) , and I was in the library at 10.50pm . Thats pretty good. I rarely take the tram in to Manchester has it takes 50 minutes from the bus station to Victoria. The return journey was just as efficient catching the 2.21 train to Leeds first stop Rochdale . The longest part being the walk down to the bus station.

Today will be ironing, a bit of cooking, a bit of french grammar and listening and some sewing. Bob won’t be home till about 9 weather permitting. Have a good day all

Morning Sue. Hard luck with the shopping.... Yes, the retailers are beginning to focus on Xmas. We will shortly see the first warnings about a shortage of turkeys due to bird flu....
I am back up after 2 hours second sleep and it's wet and windy out there but nothing to frighten the horses. I hope Wendy is having the same experience. That extra 500ft up to Burnt Hill can make a lot of difference.
