Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Always well sheltered from Southerly and winds Stanley, so nothing to worry us too much at the moment, but I think it's due to move a bit more into the West later on.
Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
We are at 620 feet, a little lower I think. its just a bit damp out there and a few gusts but not serious. We are expecting 38 mph gusts but Claire in Preston is expecting 49 mph. The weather map shows its a bit further north than us . Coventry has the same forecast as us. Rain dying out mid afternoonStanley wrote: ↑20 Oct 2024, 09:03 Morning Sue. I am back up after 2 hours second sleep and it's wet and windy out there but nothing to frighten the horses. I hope Wendy is having the same experience. That extra 500ft up to Burnt Hill can make a lot of difference.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Yes Sue, we had the same experience and not as bad as forecast, or at least not down here in Barlick.
I shall be in the shed as usual doing useful things and if the forecast is correct and it is dry I shall have a walk later.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
First job was to finish the clevis, the legs needed shortening and the link end rounding off. Then the valve rod had to be cut to length and threaded to fit in the valve. Next the valve had to be fettled to get the rags off and then milled in the VM to get the faces square with each other. That's done and tomorrow I can do the finish milling to size. But that's enough for this morning, my attention now is on breakfast!

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Morning
The afternoon turned very sunny yesterday and though the wind was gusty it was ok. Bob got home at 7.30 so it was a cuppa followed by a late small tea. I had done a chicken casserole and just a few roast veg, the latter in the airfryer when he was home. I spent the afternoon sorting my scraps of fabric into small, medium , large and throw away. I have offered to teach the 13 year old daughter of my pilates teacher, to sew and its good to have a supply of useful bits to practice on and to make small things with. It will be a Sunday occupation when Bob is out at the park.
Today french is cancelled as it is half term, yoga is cancelled as the studio is closed today for some work being done. I await inspiration for what I shall do. I shall try and get an appointment with the GP for my sinusitis but don’t hold your breath. Have a good day all

I'm glad Bob got back in good time.... Best of luck with the GP appointment, you never know, you might get lucky.
As for me..... off to bed now and perhaps a walk later. Beyond that I am flexible!
I hope it turns out to be a good day.....

I was not lucky Stanley, and the Nurse Practitioner is on holiday. So we have decided to go for a walk via another pharmacist and back through the dell. I shall try some sudafed tablets. I don’t need a nasal spray as my noise is pefectly clear its my head that is bunged up .

I've found the Sudafed 'nose unblocker' spray seems to work on my head too. I believe the active ingredients get into the bloodstream quicker up the nose.

Thanks but I have been using that for 5 weeks before the steroid spray the pharmacist gave me last week . My nose is not congested at all but my head and ear buzz all the time.

I hope you find relief soon Sue, whatever the route!
I shall be in the shed at 06:00 doing occupational therapy. Later this morning if the forecast proves accurate I shall go for a walk into Town Square and back...... Quite an expedition for me these days!

This morning I milled the valve to dimension and ended up by cutting the slot for the driver bar. Tomorrow I shall mark and mill out the clearance for the exhaust in the base. But at the moment my aim is on breakfast.

Morning
We had a nice walk yesterday which helps clear the head, and in the afternoon I did an hours titivating in the garden. I also had a zoom french conversation class which I had forgotten about. Today I am meeting two old university friends for a light lunch in Delph then hopefully it will be pilates and yoga in the studio if the work has been finished. Have a good day all

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
This morning I drilled the body of the valve for passage of the valve rod. Then I cut the pocket in the base of the valve that forms the exhaust passage. Next I refined the driver, marked it for the valve rod and drilled and tapped it. You see the result, the valve ready to be installed in the chest but first I have some more castings to fettle. That's for tomorrow, now I want my breakfast.

Morning
Nice day yesterday. Its the first time Sue, Jean and myself have met for a couple of years. We usually meet twice a year and choose Delph as it is a similar length drive for all of us from our respective homes. I met Sue last year but Jean’s husband was not well and having hospital appointments, all ok now so we had a good catch up.
This morning Bob and I will walk into Rochdale to bank the money from the ´little train in the park’ . This afternoon I have sewing with Maxine where I hope to finalise the fit of my new shirt so I can finish it this weekend, then its on to new plans and ideas. I have two. Firstly I would like to copy a top with unusual styling that I saw on facebook last week, secondly I have been given 3.5 metres of polyester suiting so I want to make a smart suit. There may be enough fabric for skirt, trousers and jacket. The former two I can do myself and I have found a photo of an unusual jacket I would like to copy. In the early evening I have zoom pilates. Have a good day all

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Morning Sue..... I have just surfaced after second sleep and was surprised actually to see how grey and gloomy it is. I was expecting some sun. This may change my view of going for a walk. I have no needs from the shops and might prefer an easy day keeping warm....
The thing that strikes me about your sewing plans is that they are far cheaper in terms of the costs of raw materials than my shed matters!
I hope you have a brighter walk than it would be here. As I said, it's quite grey and gloomy out there.....

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
I spent an hour on the governor stand. It's a complicated casting and normally I would do it by hand on the grinding wheel but this morning I decided to be a good boy and refine it using the vertical mill. As you can imagine. it's difficult to hold it to mill all the faces accurately and to size. Even more difficult is getting the relationship of the major face that bolts on the engine bed and the centre of the hole that accommodated the valve rod accurately measured and marked. But as you can see I got there. A bit of hand filing needed now and then drill for the rod. That's tomorrow sorted! Now for breakfast.

Morning
Its a dark start to the day, at the moment there is a bright orange line above the hills over beyond Oldham as the sun rises. It was a good afternoon at Maxine's yesterday and after the fitting for my shirt only minor adjustments are needed. We put our heads together and have also come up with a plan and started creating a pattern for a jacket for the suiting I was given.
This morning Bob and I are going to a funeral, the husband of of one of my work colleagues. We are taking Wendy and Keith who, like us, knew him well having met on several social occasions . He was also one of Julias university lecturers many years ago and was very supportive when she went through a difficult time in her second year. Sadly he died unexpectedly in his sleep two weeks ago. Later this afternoon our friend Kath is coming over for a chat and bringing some of her outdoor potted plants for their winter holiday in our conservatory. Bob will go and fetch the big plant later as it is far too heavy for her to lift.
Thats it for the day, have a good one.

Sad for those left but not a bad way to go Sue! Wrap up warm, funerals are cold affairs in summer. Much worse in today's weather.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
I've just got back from some heavy end veggie shopping at the Co-op. The sort of thing that can sit for two or three days without going off. It makes it easier when I do the definitive veggie shop at Chaudrey's later in the week. But I have a complaint, and this is as good a place as any to register it.....
Last week was a bad knee week, my right knee was extremely painful, I had to take a dose of paracetamol before I even thought of walking on it. For the last three days it has been totally painless!
So what's my gripe? I want to know why so I can keep it this way. Is it because of some change in my diet? I am going to make small changes in what I am eating and try to identify what triggers my knee into pain again. It annoys me that I can't be sure.
Otherwise, everything is fine. The sun is shining and I have no pain....
