Today I shall be Mainly...
Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Morning
Its another dull cool start to the day. All is quiet here. We don’t expect the girls to surface early though Eve may go for a run. She usually goes out for a 12 km run with Ed but Julia and Ed won’t be back until about 11.30. We will have lunch with them then head off home. I suppose we will be back 5 or 6 ish.
Our meal last night was disappointing. Food good, service dreadful. They knew it was bad and kept making mistake after mistake. When the bill came the automatically included tip was not on the bill and we were not given the little tablet on which to review the meal and their performance. I was rather annoyed having to keep asking where our food was. When it came it was the wrong order. We even asked 3 times for more water, It was supposed to be a treat for the girls because Julia and Ed were having a big formal meal and dance. Ed is the project manager for the Texel (textel) Sheep Society and the event was to celebrate 50 years of the society.
I hear Eve disturbing, i bet she is off for that run. Have a good day all.

Morning Sue.... Sorry to hear about the bad service, It annoys me so much because you don't mind paying for good experiences but when you find you're paying for bad service that's an insult. I hope you have a good uneventful journey back home and don't bother about going for a 12k run......

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
We have had a walk along the canal from Salterforth to Foulridge with coffee at Fabellos before heading back. It was chilly but sunny till we were approaching The Anchor when the rain started. I'm planning an afternoon catching up with the history society accounts but right now I'm treating myself to a pre lunch whisky.

Trying out my new 'head shaver'
Having nicked the back of my head, with the last 3 wet shaves, I ordered this beastie from Amazon. I probably shouldn't be allowed sharp things

I've been teetering on the brink of ordering one of those for yonks! Please let me know what your verdict is on it Kev.....
I shall be in the shed at 06:00 for occupational therapy. After second sleep Mick is calling in to be my Sherpa on a veggie buying expedition to Town Square. I shall wrap up warm as the Met Office is forecasting an effective temperature of -5C.

Impressed with the first use. I used it in the shower and, although not quite as close as a blade, it did a very acceptable job. There are plenty available for varying prices between £30 and £200.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
That's a big range! Which did you get?

This morning is turning the inside faces of the lids which requires a different set up. Outside Jaws on the chuck and four button magnets installed to act as setting stops. Then some careful measuring and fitting to finish the back lid and install it on the cylinder as a check. Then get the front lid set up for the same treatment. That was a good hour, I have to be so careful when working in two planes as I get confused! All well no mistakes so I deserve a sit down and breakfast.

Morning
It was a dreadful drive home in torrential rain until the M60 then it dried up a bit. We were home by 5.00 pm and by 8.30pm I had done the washing and the drying including last weeks washing. Its a quick turn around as tomorrow we set off for France. Today I have french conversation this morning, some ironing and packing this afternoon and zoom yoga at teatime. Have a good day all

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
My son in law Mick gave me an hour of his time and we have been veggie shopping in the Town Square. Looking at the revised weather forecast that was a smart move I think..... I do not want to have to go out tomorrow! Everything stowed away and I am sat in the warm contemplating my second hot meal of the day. Things could be a lot worse!

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
And the weather forecast has changed yet again, the predicted snow is no longer forecast.
I shall be in the shed as usual doing useful things for an hour. I think I might roast my chicken, apart from it being almost veggie cooking day the oven warms the kitchen wonderfully and that will be a good thing today! (We may have ditched the snow but it is going to be cold out there.....)
Later at 05:00. The chicken is in the oven roasting together with the usual suspects!

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
This morning's task was to put the chicken in to roast and then finish refining the fit of the front lid. Both tasks accomplished but the lid demanded more care and accuracy. It's done now and as you can see the fit is good enough for both lids to remain in place on the cylinder with no external help. Now I deserve my breakfast!

Morning
Well so much for 128 mm of snow, we have little more than a sprinkling,. Full sun is forecast for 10 a.m Its wet out there and the temperature is just above zero. Thats good news for us as we have to venture in to Whitworth for the dentist this morning and are leaving for France straight afterwards. We shall head to Southampton today and spend the day there tomorrow. The ferry is tomorrow night . Thats about it, stay warm and have a good day

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Funny thing is that you are more likely to be troubled by snow as you go south according to the latest forecasts. It looks like the later you set off the more likely you are to avoid the snow. I hope you have a good journey.
As you can see I am going to go back to bed and then cower indoors in the warm.... I don't feel at all guilty!

Yes the Midlands seem to be more hit than us. It will be 11.30 when we leave the dentist so I think the roads will have improved by thenStanley wrote: ↑19 Nov 2024, 07:25 Funny thing is that you are more likely to be troubled by snow as you go south according to the latest forecasts. Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Morning
Yes we had an uneventful trip down to Winchester where we stayed the night at a Premier Inn. The dentist was quick and painless. A check up and a clean . We were on the road by 11.20a.m. There was hardly any snow in Whitworth, in fact hardly any snow oof note anywhere. It was a grey day, a little rain and very cold. Fields were intermittently white or splattered with white, roads all clear and we were here, after a couple of stops, at 4.45 pm.
Todays plans are a day in old Southampton, doing another of our city Mysteries. We have never been to Southampton, except the outskirts, where my brother Dave, lived for a bit so its a new place to us. We then drive to Portsmouth for the ferry to be there by 6.15 pm. The forecast is dry and 6 degrees. I came down in my fleecy walking trousers and walking boots because of expected snow. The trousers will be useful in the cold today but I will revert to trainers, more comfortable to wear all day.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Morning Sue, that's good news. I hope Susan and Mick were just as fortunate....

The first thing I did was clean Mrs Harrison, I like Cast Iron but have to admit it's dirty stuff! Then I found a piece of scrap brass and made a piston to fit the cylinder. Tomorrow I shall make the rod. Another small step forwards.... Now for breakfast.
