Morning Sue, so this trip is just a quickie to get the sale under way? I hope you get the ferry sorted out.....
More work on refining the cylinder. This morning taking the rough casting and making a presentable Piston Rod gland to fit the boss in the front lid. Much of the turning has to be done with the gland held by friction alone so the work has to be slow and delicate. Here's where I finished after 45 minutes, ready to drill the stud holes 5BA clear, the PCD is marked ready. That's for tomorrow and now I want my breakfast.

Yes just a quickie to do the winter pruning, cover some plants to over winter it was too soon in September, and get the sale started. We usually come mid October but we had none of our 90 days left, the maximum number we are allowed in 6 months since Brexit. Ferry sorted it was the online info that was wrong. Our ticket clearly says Thursday night

I've had my short walk for a bit of fresh air, low bright sun but drops of rain on the wind That wind is cold so no sitting on traffic duty!

Very similar report to yesterday. I shall do my hour in the shed and, if the weather forecast is correct, take a walk in the sunshine later this morning. The committee will take a final decision after looking out of the window later this morning!

Morning
What was odd was that in the ferry listings of sailings it showed the ferry arriving at Portsmouth on Friday morning but not leaving St Malo on Thursday evening. A different search showed a timetable with the ferry leaving on Thursday. Later in the day we got our usual ferry confirmation email.
Yesterday was a thick cold fog first thing. We went and bought some grass seed and visited the tip with some old sun loungers and some old paint and by the time we got back the fog had gone to reveal a lovely sunny day. I did my last bits in the garden’ spread the grass seed where needed, and covered my pots of plants. Its a shame about the latter as they were still growing but I cut them back and covered with layers of plastic and straw. Laetitia and the whole family came round for a beer in the evening including Leanna who is studying away in Malestroit. I think she came home to see us having heard we were selling
Today is a bit of general tidying, floor washing and towel washing. They will dry by tomorrow morning so I don’t have to leave washing hanging up when we go. Its due to rain all day. I think its the storm heading to Holland that was mentioned on Countryfile. It glances across the south coast of the UK but hits Brittany. Have a good day all

Morning Sue, yes that storm looks nasty I hope it doesn't affect your crossing, I think it will have passed through by then. (But there is another one on its way in from the west!) You sound as though you have achieved a straight edge. I like that.
This morning I marked the gland and drilled the clearance holes for the 5BA studs. I put a witness mark on the gland and repeated it on the front lid. Then I drilled and tapped for the studs, fitted them and I had everything exactly right, the gland dropped on the studs and entered the socket in the lid with no adjustment at all needed. Only a baby step but done well and accurately. Now for my reward, breakfast!

I've had a walk to the Co-op to get some milk and done a load of washing. I've hung most of the clothes on the dryer in the kitchen but have put my corduroys out on the line outside to see how much water they will lose out there. Gloria said it was a good drying day yesterday and it should be better today.....

Morning
Bobs alarm has just one off in his suitcase, set for early rising on the ferry. He has slept through it but I am wide awake!.
It was a horrid day yesterday as it rained morning till night, more of the same today. It was too wet and muddy to go to see our neighbour over the road so we have written her a long letter explaining that we are selling and why. We have now signed all the paperwork for the estate agent to proceed which initially will be measuring up, taking a video, electricity checks and checks on the septic tank. We know the latter does not conform to present day standards.
Julie made tentative enquiries about that as we do not have a report for the last visit. The company is denying doing a check saying they could not gain access, yet we know Yves let them in. It was October 2020 so of course we were not here and Yves took care of everything like that for us. We had done the amendments that they wanted which included a vent pipe. They could not find it at the time , but it was hidden by the overgrown hedge. We remember the discussion with Yves because of that. Ah well if we need a new tank we don’t have to do it, just make a recommendation.
So we just have a few things to do this morning, mainly removing extension leads and the like ready for the electricity check. I have done all the cleaning and washing, the latter I have to put away, then its lunch and off to St Malo. We have a bit of shopping to buy for neighbours and friends. Coffee is particularly cheaper over here so we take decaff ground coffee for Barbara and Bill, and wine for our roofer neighbour as he is a gem if we ever have a bit of a problem.
The ferry is overnight so we will drive home tomorrow via Coventry. The crossing should be calm. Have a good day all

That's an account of a very busy day! I hope everything goes well, better than your experience with the septic tank company..... Here's to a good crossing, I shall be thinking about you.
More work on the front lid. There are two different sizes of fastening, 4BA for the studs and 5BA for the two countersunk screws that secure the kid where there is no access at the front size for a stud. I have made more mistakes in the past at this stage that any other part of the engine so everything was triple checked! As you can see I am all right so far, now I need to drill and tap the cylinder for the 4BA studs. No rush, that's for tomorrow. Now for breakfast!

All right..... I admit it! I'm a wimp, I cooked my rice and had every intention of going for a walk but it's too bloody cold for me. I shall have my dinner and a dadnap instead....

It's been foggy and drizzle all day again. That's 4 days in a row starting just after the estate agent left on Monday. Its 10 degrees but feels colder because it is so damp. We are sat at the ferry waiting for boarding

There was a warning for fog here today (Met Office) but I never saw any. It was sunning (thanks for that word Gloria) for a lot of the day and my solar lights are still on in the back yard.
Hope you have a smooth, uneventful, crossing Sue

I think Bob and Sue might have had a smooth crossing.....
I shall be in the shed at 06:00 doing useful things. The weather forecast is for an almost balmy day after the frosts of yesterday so I think my midday walk could actually happen today!

Another baby step but done accurately. The remaining four tappings for the 4BA studs in the cylinder for the front lid. Marked, drilled and tapped and the lid dropped on with no adjustments needed. That will do for this morning. Now I am chasing my breakfast!Another baby step but done accurately. The remaining four tappings for the 4BA studs in the cylinder for the front lid. This morning I made the valve rod gland, fitted it and marked it for orientation and the PCD of the stud holes. These are drilled and the valve chamber boss has been marked for drilling and tapping but that's for tomorrow. The job now is breakfast!

Morning
What a nightmare journey home. Apart from it being Friday there were endless queues and delays caused by accidents and roadworks. There was the man who jumped off a bridge that I mentioned yesterday and several incidents of vehicles being on fire. We got to Julias by 12 .30 but it had taken nearly 4 hours including a couple of stops for drinks. The air conditioning on the ferry makes us both incredibly thirsty . We left Coventry just after 1.00 pm and it took till 6.00 to get back to Rochdale. The lorry fire on the M62 affected us badly as diversion routes were through Rochdale which snarls up at the best of times and effectively blocked our way home across the town . We decided to come in via Rawtenstall and Bacup missing the town centre and the diversion routes completely. Slowly all the alternative routes we chose were showing 90 minute delays or closing . At one point our average speed was about 1 mph for 30 minutes or so .Bob wanted to get to the M56 so we could link to the M66 but could not get to it. We finally got on the M66 at Simister Island. After that it was just normal Friday evening traffic. When we got to Whitworth we decided to stop at the local Indian curry house to eat, thus arriving home at 7.00 pm thats a long time from 8.30 in the morning. We were both shaking and wobbly inside from all the travel and the stress.
This morning I was up at 6.30 for a hairdresser appointment at 7.30, as I had to change my appointment time , due to our lunch date today, and it was all Steve had left. We still managed to get to Bacup market at the normal time and are now back home with a coffee. The unpacking is done and the washing from travelling 2 days nearly done. We are picking Wendy and Keith up at 12.15 to go out to lunch with an old work colleague and her husband who we are meeting in a Turkish restaurant in Whitefield. This is our last years Christmas present to each other but because of their ill health and hospitalisations, as well as Bobs it has been difficult to meet up.
Its a grey day today and foggy on the hills, but I have to say not as bad as Brittany was. It was lovely to drive under blue skies yesterday. Have a good day all. I think the sun may be breaking through

That was a journey from hell Sue.... The lorry fire on Rocking Stones made the headlines in the BBC local news. The vehicle was gutted.
We were promised sunny spells yesterday but they never happened. Same today and we shall see later if it is true. I shall be in the shed at 06:00doing more work on my cylinder and then later this morning (hopefully in the dry....) will get the few remaining leafy veggies from the Co-op. I think I will be veggie cooking tomorrow.... I'll take a decision on that later.....
