Just back from the Cathedral of Choice. Managed to spend £20 but that's not hard these days, all sensible food items. (I'm a sucker for a reduced price!) Now for a quiet rest of the day.....

Dead simple today. Shed for an hour at 06:00 and cooking veggies after second sleep. That will take care of Monday!

One clear task this morning.... Drill and tap the remaining five holes for the 5BA holding down bolts that retain the crosshead Guides. Then fit the bolts ensuring that the guides are parallel. That's done with no errors and it took 45 minutes.... Now for breakfast.

Morning

It’s a clearer start to the day today. Yesterday was just YUK. It was an unpleasant drive over Grane road with thick mist and rain, though Owd Betts was clear. The carol service was lovely with Erin having a small reading and small solo singing part. Afterwards I came straight home but because of the weather opted to use the M66 to get back to Edenfield instead of Grane road, which was still shrouded in misty rain. Once home I put the lamb casserole in the oven and set to with my history presentation. Its slow progress as the documents I am using are old online Newspaper articles and a very old Health report which is online. The images are poor and I have to enlarge everything to see the detail.

This morning is French at Haslingden, this afternoon we are driving over to Majestic wine in Clitheroe and this evening is zoom yoga. Have a good day all

Morning Sue. I agree with you about the gloomy wet weather being depressing. We've got gloomy again in Barlick this morning but instead of rain we have a surprisingly strong wind. I am having a hot drink before getting stuck into veggie cooking..... That will keep me busy for the rest of the morning!

I have cooked all my veggies and they are in the fridge. The hob has been cleaned and all the used pans put away. A nice feeling....

I shall be in the shed by 06:00 doing useful things to my engine.
There are no calls on my time as far as I can see so I shall have a quiet day.

This morning was not a lot to do with machining, more like scratching itches! I went in the shed with a nagging thought that I had missed something in my future planning. I had decided I had no material for future crankshafts. I went digging in my stock and found that I had enough material for three more crankshafts if I made very slight adjustments to sizes. Having got that out of the way I went back to looking at the stock that Stuarts have provided for making the bottom halves of the bronze bearings for the crankshaft and I wasn't very pleased with what I found, the stock provided is barely large enough and the two were different lengths. I went looking in my treasure chest and found two pieces that were far better and substituted them for the two in the kit. I then spent the rest of the morning working on them to get them to the right size. So just one image. I have milled them to the same length and am now reducing them to the 3/4" wide I need to maker the bearings. None of this was time wasted, just different! Now I am going to have my breakfast.

Morning

I think today is a dryish start and a wet afternoon. The sky was scarlet red at dawn, not a good sign. Bob is out for lunch with the Model Engineers today but we still plan on our walk in to Rochdale to bank the money from the Santa Special of the little train. That is more or less finished now till March, but to keep the younger members interested someone will go on a Sunday every couple of weeks.

Whilst Bob is out I will continue with preparing my talk, I am nearly there. The report I am writing to go with it is rather long and will be circulated to the members of the local history group, but the talk itself is a summary. I hope to stimulate some interest in the topic. Mine is the first of a series of talks on CALDERDALE IN 1851 and is about the introduction of the Public Health Act in Halifax. A very thorough investigation was done in the February on the condition of the town based on 1850 data. The report produced is fascinating with some excellent dat on the cause of death in different age groups. The British Newspaper archives and the report itself demonstrates just how many people were against it! I have really got in to this .

Have a good day all

I bet that’s really interesting Sue, could probably be applicable to any northern towns, is there any chance of sending me a copy, it’s doesn’t need to be in paper form, or perhaps put it on here, I’m sure I’m not the only person who would like to read it?

Only a week to go to Xmas Day...... I shall try to keep everything normal and boring.... :biggrin2: The one concession I am making is to slightly increase the level of my extensions to the veggies in the fridge as the next batch of cooking will be after the day.....
I cooked onions and cabbage yesterday with that in mind.
This morning I shall be in the shed at 06:00 doing useful things and after that possibly watching the rain through the window for the rest of the morning...... I have no need to go out.

The first task this morning was to finish milling the blanks to size and then to make sure there was enough space in between the bearing beds for the crankshaft and the cheeks of the bearing. This entailed taking a skim down each internal face using the 5/8" end mill I have mounted to cut the bearing. Then I measured up and marked the blanks for the meat that has to be milled out of them. That got me to 45 minutes so rather than start on the next stage, cutting the stock, I have left that for tomorrow. I am going to post and then have my breakfast.

Morning

We did our walk in to Rochdale yesterday getting just a little damp on the way back, then Bob went to his lunch and I spent the afternoon on the computer before pilates and yoga at. 5.15 pm. We both seem to have developed colds during the day, all ready for Christmas!

This morning Bob has an asthma checkup at the surgery, having finally identified that this is the cause of the cough, that was treated with antibiotics that indirectly caused a symptom that resulted in identifying cancer. Thats long and involved, its a bit like I KNOW AN OLD WOMAN WHO SWALLOWED A SPIDER etc. Meanwhile I am expecting a phone call from the GP re my back Xray. Its nearly two months ago but the GP is completing his training and is only doing two days a week. This afternoon I will hand deliver some Christmas cards which will give me a walk out, but I also want to finish my history presentation. The report is written, now I need to do a short power point presentation to go with it. Its zoom pilates at 6.45 pm.

Rain is forecast, have a good day all

My husband 12 yrs ago went for a check up on his bowel, they found he had prostate cancer as well as in his bowel. He’s had a couple more 6/7 yrs ago and is fine now. Not a lot of him left to go wrong, but he’s ok.

I have got two pans of swede cooking on the hob. These are today's extension to the veggies.... Apart from making the batch last longer, they reduce the unit cost of each meal..... Waste not want not! :biggrin2:

I shall be in the shed for an hour of occupational therapy at 06:00. I shall take a view later but a walk looks to be on the cards if the weather is dry.
(Kev, that pepper looks a bit angry to me..... :laugh5: )

This morning I cut out the waste from the bottom bearing stock. The cutter was dull, like all my cutters it's old but I took the time to touch up the cutting edge and went quietly forward taking very small cuts. I reached my mark on both sides and it took almost an hour. I shall take them out of the vise, refine them and fit them tomorrow. Now I am chasing my breakfast!

Morning

I finished writing my talk yesterday whilst awaiting the GP phone call. We had a long chat but basically the problem with my back is osteoarthritis which I knew anyway so I shall continue as I am , ie doing yoga , and pilates with care and walking. Thankfully the anti-inflammatoires have worked well and my thumbs and wrists are now almost pain free. I was disappointed with the asthma nurse that Bob saw, as she failed to notice he has a bad cough and possibly a chest infection, now he needs to try and get a GP appointment as he probably needs antibiotics. However today is not possible as its a trip to Christies for a CT scan

That will take up most of our day, which promises to be cold and dry. Have a good day all

It really is a scandal the way medical services have been allowed to deteriorate. I hope Bob gets a reliable opinion and diagnosis.
Please give him my best Sue and I hope the scan gets a good result!
I decided it's too cold for me out there so I am keeping warm and doing useful domestic things like frying my sweet potato chips!

I shall be in the shed for my hour of OT! Not sure about anything else as the forecast is for rain. I could always cook savoury rice to further extend my veggies!
