Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
I think the gloom is pretty widespread Sue. Yesterday it was gloomy and damp here all day. Strangely, the sky was quite bright during the night even though overcast.
I shall go in the shed as usual for an hour and then I can't see the day being a lot different than yesterday.
If it is I shall report!

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Just one task this morning, set the engine bed up under the pillar drill and then carefully drill the bores for the crankshaft using a succession of drills and then finishing with a half inch reamer. The bearing still needs adjusting to accept the crankshaft. or the shaft needs to be adjusted to fit the bearing. I shall decide that tomorrow. Now I want my Xmas breakfast! That was just short of an hour of very careful work......

That should be a quiet trip down there Sue. I hope it all goes well. I am surveying the piste and wondering about a walk as, though gloomy, it isn't raining!

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
I shall stick to the usual schedule and go in the shed at about 06:00 for an hour of therapy. I don't know what it is about working with my hands but it suits me and is good for my soul. I never got my walk yesterday because it started raining so I might try one this morning if it's dry.....

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
This morning was adjusting the crankshaft to a good fit in the bearings. I did it by adjusting the journals on the shaft as I could do that precisely in the lathe. It took me just over half an hour and I checked everything multiple times. A slip up at this stage would have been terrible. All went well and there is just one Image of me running the shaft into the bearings using my drill. It's a good fit and you'll notice that I have fitted lock nuts. I'm pleased with this and now I am going after my breakfast!

Morning
Hope you all had a good day. We drove over to Preston about 3.00, just in time for the fog. It had been foggy all morning, lifted about 12.30 and was back in time for our drive over Owd Betts and Grane Road. Luckily it was clear after that. A good day was had by all.Claire and Adam did a lovely meal, far too much of course. We were all in bed quite early feeling very full and I lost count of the number of times Erin beat me at UNO. Did you manage to finish the Lego challenge Wendy. We shall breakfast and then make our way home. Have a good day all

No Sue, we didn't get far with the Lego challenge, meal preparation and Wallace & Grommit got in the way! It will have to wait for New Year's Eve when Craig will no doubt be visiting again.

I went for a walk round the Town Square and it was very quiet. I shall be there again tomorrow for meds and heavy veggies from Chaudrey's. It's mild and the wind is light, very acceptable weather!

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
8 degrees and very thick fog here, it doesn’t feel warm outside at all and our drive back from Preston was not pleasant. It will be a quiet day for us followed by a SMALL turkey dinner and Christmas pud. Claire doesn't do the latter but made Christmas cake and a fabulous chocolate yuletide log

We have just been out for a walk in the mist, it's not even 7° here but no wind. Amazing how many vehicles are travelling at speed on Skipton Old Road with no lights on at all.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
I haven't decided yet but today might be the day I get my chicken in the oven by 06:00. I know that later I shall go to Well for my meds and Chaudrey's for veggies. I may decline the shed and have an early breakfast, nobody is breathing down my neck to finish the engine!
Later at 05:30. The chicken is prepared and in the oven. I have made my decision and won't be going in the shed today. I shall have an early breakfast and save my energy for shopping later this morning......

Morning
Another foggy day forecast, in fact the next two are also forecast to be foggy. Its 3 degrees at the moment with an expected high of 5 or 6. I have a lot of washing today and need to make the single beds up in the spare room as Julia and Briony are coming tomorrow for the weekend. Ed and Eve are off to football matches. Other than that we are are going for lunch at the Italian, just the two of us, thus we don’t have to cook. We are both still coughing, Bob very badly though my voice is more or less back , and we still feel exceptionally tired.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Be a taxi service. Just back from taking Sally to Skipton to get the train to meet Ruby. Both end of the journey fallen foul of some type of train timetable woes. Ruby's trip up from Birmingham did not have a direct train to Leeds due to scheduled engineering works. She can only get to Sheffield before finding a link through to Leeds. As she has not done that before Sally had arranged to meet her in Sheffield. Sally sent her the tickets so all that is in place but it's a platform change in Sheffield. Sally's end of the journey this morning had to be started earlier than was booked as her ride to Leeds was cancelled when she checked this morning, apparently due to a busted train. She had to get an earlier one to be in time for the Sheffield leg. Hopefully the home leg will be a bit more straightforward. They are hoping to be back in Skipton around 1.30pm. Its a quick visit this year from Ruby as it's her step dads 40th Birthday which she wants to attend. She could potentially be driving herself this time next year. Time flies.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Sue, it sounds as though both you and Bob need a few quiet days. Sorry you're crook.
Ian, that sounds complicated! Hard luck both you and Sally! I hope everything slots into place.....
My next job is to deal with my roast chicken!
(I have enough on getting to Well and the Town Square and back. I have already done half of the veggie shopping at the Co-op to make my next group easier.)

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Right! That's me shopped up for 2024. I have my meds from Well, straight in, no queue. Then the remaining veggies from Gulam's that I didn't get in the Co-op earlier. 2kg of Lubna Basmati rice and some milk I forgot earlier.
Everything is put away and I am sat down in my slippers.... That's quite enough honest endeavour for one day!

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
My aim this morning was to start building the castings up on their final bed and installing the flywheel. However things did not go to plan. As you can see I built the engine up and made a spacer collar to fit on the shaft to ensure clearance of the flywheel on the bed. I then went to the flywheel to refine it before fitting it and realised that I had made a very bad job of painting it so I had to give it another coat and leave it to dry. Not a big disaster, it meant that I was only in the shed for half an hour but I shall not lose any sleep because of that! Now for breakfast!

Forgot to write this morning, so this is today and tomorrow
Absolutely Stanley. A couple of our friends have had the same thing and it took 3 weeks to get over. We are just heading in to week 3. We took Julia and B out for a meal rather than cook this evening. I spent the afternoon with B on the sewing machine, playing around, Bob and Julia read in the lounge . Julia needs the break too, the mess at home after the builders remains and tonight will be the first night she has slept in a proper bed for 5 weeks. The two of them are leaving after lunch tomorrow, a roast . If this fog ever goes we will try and have a short walk to get some fresh air otherwise we shall not do much
Chat again on Monday

I think we are clearer because we are higher up Sue. The canal at Foulridge is on the same contour as it is in Barlick so Kev and P are at about 500ft.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
The flywheel was dry this morning so I spent half an hour refining the finish and then mounted it on the crankshaft using Loctite 638. I put tackle away and reinstated the chuck to normal outside jaws. That was a productive 45 minutes. Now for breakfast!
