Yes Sue, The version of pdf you sent me is different than mine and I suspect was read-only.
Microsoft Word .doc or Libre Office .odt text should work.

Nice to sit down! I am back from my walk and shop. I have got my meds, my vitamins from Shambles and milk and veggies from the Co-op. I am ready for storm Eowyn and the bad weather we are told will accompany it. I won't need to go out again for a week!

Going to Skipton on the bus to Specsavers, my eye test is due. I think I might see if I can move to varifocals. Two sets of glasses for reading and distance is a pain.

I love my varifocals from Specsavers.

My eyesight has slightly worsened and the optician agreed that the varifocals would give me better range than my current readers and distance. In effect I should get the bit in the middle as well. I went for the Specsaver bogoff as you get the second pair free with the same lenses as your main pair. I opted for sunglasses. The only difference is I have chosen slightly larger frames and they wont have the anti glare of the clear pair as it is already part of the sunglass lens. I also opted for higher specification varifocal lenses, middle of the price range as they give a larger spread across the middle of the lens and apparently are quicker to get used to than the cheaper and narrower versions.

Sally has had varifocals for a few years now and she loves them also.

I love my varifocals but it took a couple of weeks to get used to them. I felt like I was swimming in water all the time, then got up one morning and they were perfect, never looked back

I went for the 'one step down' from the top spec varifocals as there wasn't that much difference in the 'spread'. I've been very pleased with them. I didn't go for the bogof offer, I took the discount and had the photochromic and thinner lenses. I still have my previous pair as a backup and a pair of single vision, which I usually keep in the car in case of an emergency breakage.

This morning I fitted the three components of the con rod/piston group and adjusted the stroke to endure that the piston clears at both ends of the stroke. The fit is tight but accurate. This is to be expected at this stage and will ease as fitting continues. Now for breakfast after an hour of honest endeavour!

Morning
I stick to my faithful family optician that used to be the Co op till he went alone many years ago. The service I have had over the years has been impeccable. A friend once persuaded me to go to Specsavers, the result was a nightmare with badly fitting varifocals which I rapidly changed and went back to my faithful. There I was told the lenses had not been lined up properly. I know it was a one off but I never went back. The glasses were flimsy too. I admit that where I go is not cheap but i have always been delighted with the service and indeed the after service when I have needed it.

Gosh what a busy day yesterday , I slept like a log. I am back to Wendys this morning for a couple of hours to do a bit more clearing . I brought 6 boxes of art and craft material home with me as did Barbara , and hope to do the same today. I am storing it in my sewing room for the next week or so. This afternoon is not planned . Have a good day all

I agree with you Sue. If you have a good optician, stick to him!

Sue, I've probably related this on OG before. 20 years ago I got very good service from Specsavers in the small Somerset town of Street. When we moved to Taunton the big Specsavers there was different and poor. It came to a head when they made me new glasses and when I went to collect I said something was wrong, I couldn't see well with them. They sent me away with "You've got to get used to them". Ever a scientist, I did some tests at home and found that they'd mixed up the left and right prescriptions when making the lenses. It was simple really - I realised it when I turned the glasses upside down and held them in front of my eyes and could see much better! When I returned them to get correct ones made I got no apology from them. I now use Boots opticians.

Interesting story. In my case it seems the measurements were taken with the glasses in the wrong position on my nose. I had to wear them a bit like scientific stereotype, ie with them half way down my nose

The trainee, at the local independent I used to use did that on my first pair, fortunately the optician checked and they were remeasured. I only went to Specsavers as my GP surgery sent me there for a hearing test. I was due new glasses and was impressed by the price, I saved nearly £200. The hearing aids were free :good:

I shall be in the shed for an hour doing useful things. Later I can't see me doing much beyond watching the weather through the window.....

You might well ask what have I done this morning. I had decided I wasn't satisfied with the work I did yesterday, whilst it was accurate and effective it was too tight so this morning I stripped the crank bearing and con rod out of the engine and re-fitted them. It is much better now, the fit is just as accurate but slightly easier so the crankshaft turns freely. I don't see this as a waste of over half an hour.... Just a necessary refinement. I have earned my breakfast!

Morning

We did another good clearing of Wendys art room yesterday and the sorted boxes are slowly filling my sewing room where they will remain for about another 10 days. There will be one more trip there, next friday with the seats of my car folded down so that we can transport the large canvasses and the big sheets of paper.

Today we have cancelled our u3 a wine group social because of the weather. We hope it dies down before this afternoon as we are driving to Liverpool for a wine tasting event run by my sister. The tickets were expensive and it is our birthday present to each other. We are staying in Liverpool overnight at a Premier Inn and spending tomorrow in the city. We have another City Mystery to do, and then lunch in a french restaurant with Jane.

Have a good day all

You should be OK later this afternoon Sue.....
I have just had three hours second sleep. I woke to sunshine lighting the houses opposite but it's gone in now. The wind isn't bad here, Weets is sheltering us.

I shall be in the shed at 06:00 as usual and later might try a short walk as the wind is down from yesterday. I'm unsteady on my feet in calm weather, daren't risk strong winds..... At some point I have overspill veggies to cook.

This morning was small things. A few tweaks to the fit of the con rod and then a measure up and stock find for the connecting link between the eccentric and the valve rod. This included a final sizing of the slot in the valve rod clevis to suit the thickness of the connecting link. This was careful and slow work but we have got there. Only half an hour in the shed but that's enough, there is no rush! Now for my breakfast.
