I'm a volunteer in the Local History section Gloria. We do various tasks for the library, some of my fellow volunteers digitize photograph collections and put slideshows together, I'm putting together a name index for Doreen Crowther's huge Index of Colne Deeds. We also assist anyone who turns up with a family or local history query, as the staff no longer have the time to spend doing it.

I have been once to Colne Library, I looked at the Doreen Crowther collection for details of my Kippax family, which she has some of. The problem I had was that she didn't give her sources, and some of it was maybe a bit iffy. Have I missed reading something which gave her sources?

The collection of deeds are separate to her family pedigrees. The pedigrees seem to have come from a variety of sources...I will see what I can discover next week.

I too used Doreen Crowther for my Widdup tree, and there were no references but I have since checked everything out and enlarged the info

Just wondering...do I get a badge/T-shirt/sticker or anything? I watched "Tripps' drive to Tesco".
Very good. Do more videos I say.
(Did you park in a disabled spot at the end?)
I couldn't help comparing my two minute drive down residential streets to the local supermarket. None of this major roads and roundabouts stuff.
Thanks Tripps.

Don't encourage me - it will only make me worse. I was thinking of filming my journey to Cambridge this afternoon, but that's half an hour on a good day, and usually more on a Friday. Do you think you could stand that? More than 20 views at the moment - do you think it could become a cult?
Yes it does end in the Blue Badge parking - I'm well qualified for it at the moment.

A bit of a hiccup this afternoon - so here's an interlude. This has been on youtube five years now - and never a comment.

Bedding is in the washer and I am brewed up. First eye drop of the day in. Not a bad start!

The underground reservoir at Clayton-le-Woods is open for visitors for the next two weeks before being demolished, and homes built on the site, we are hoping to go there.

Oooh Gloria, great minds and all that, I just put the same link on another topic!

Going to Barlick Market, then off for a walk with elderberry picking in mind. (Col is getting back into making wine after a gap of 30 years or so.)

In defence of Stanley, we're still on British Summer Time, which is an hour different to GMT, so Stanley's washing went in about 4am? (A man wife Alison could get on very well with... perhaps that's where she goes on early morning bike rides!)

I'm mainly running the cinema this afternoon and evening (Epic at 3am and Jack the Giant Slayer at 7.)

Hartley...interested to hear how your brewing is progressing.
(And Colin's, in time, Wendy)

I am always looking up recipes and methods for doing such things, but have never progressed beyond the research stage. I've always fancied having a few bottles of something warming put away for the winter, but get put off by the thought of explosions in the pantry or managing to poison myself ( the latter being the major worry after eating some wild mushrooms many years ago).
And yet something has me constantly drawn to the process of producing a concoction.
I had a Portuguese friend who used to make "FireWater". When she took the cork from the bottle in the kitchen, the fumes could blister the paint on my car parked in the driveway! I was never game to try it. ( she would have a nip, become quite chatty, and goodness knows what her kids got for dinner).

I fancy something with a Blackberry base...

I've lots of blackberries in the freezer (from this year's glorious crop). Doubt they'd survive the journey...

Barlickers have been busy collecting walnuts in a rare good year for harvesting.

Hubby and I only got back from nearly six weeks in the UK on Monday evening, David,
We ate our fill of Blackberries! Long walks down country lanes, stuffing ourselves like wicked children and getting quite stained. Delicious they were. We felt like five year olds...
It was something to store in the memory bank. Blackberry bushes are poisoned here and considered noxious weeds, a great pity, I say. I have one growing in my backyard, but it is not doing well.

Gotcha. . .

"Bathos (Greek - meaning depth) is an abrupt transition in style from the exalted to the commonplace, producing a ludicrous effect. While often unintended, bathos may be used deliberately to produce a humorous effect.[1]

Going to see my son Jack's girlfriend in "Grease" at the Garrick Theatre, Altrincham. Victoria (Tori) has received an excellent review for here portrayal of "Rizzo" and her rendition of her songs. Should be a good show.

A lovely autumn day. We went to Barlick market, had a 4 mile walk between Earby and Thornton collecting a couple of carrier bags full of elderberries and a few apples on the way. This afternoon I have been moving logs from an outdoor store to one in the barn and we have swept the chimney ready to start up the wood stove. Sat out with a glass of wine once the hens were put to bed and the ponies fed, but were driven in by a fast approaching thunderstorm. Col is cooking a veggie curry and we are listening to a new Roy Harper CD. Life doesn't get much better!

The washing machine can't be heard in the next room, let alone upstairs next door. This is a very quiet house....
David, my lips are sealed with regard to my knowledge of what Alison does on her early morning bike rides.....
