I shall be in the shed as usual for an hour Early Doors but after that I shall be taking it easy. Yesterday was excellent but tiring!

This morning I turned the leg of the second blank down to the roughly 1/2" stage and installed the third blank in the lathe. I turned that down to the diameter that fits in the bore and it is now ready to reverse and turn down to roughly 1/2" Then I cleaned up all my chips and swarf including sweeping the floor. I have a clean shed and lathe ready for the last leg of this stage tomorrow. A good hour of solid progress. Now for breakfast.

Morning

So Stanley why were you expecting Jayne. I am afraid I don’t listen to or watch breakfast news or indeed any other programme during the day

My day of art was successful however after 6 hours concentrating it brought on a visual migraine, where you are unable to see clearly, just zig zag lines blurring your field of view. I did not do pilates as I felt it would aggravate it even though it had cleared up by 6.00 pm.

This morning I have art at Haslingden, we are down to 5 of us as one of the regulars has hurt her back possibly a slipped disc and is awaiting an operation. This afternoon we are going to see our widowed friend Wendy in Norden.

Its a lovely morning but very cold, have a good day all

You have my sympathy Sue, I get that, pixillating, then the headache used to kick in. Still get the pixillating, but the headache which follows is now a lot milder.

Ocular migraines aren't nice at all, you have my sympathy on that one.

My pixillating lasts 20mins, I can set my clock by it.

I get that but no headache, just the pixelating. Didn't know there was a name for it.
Sue, An old exhibition that Daniel and I did many years ago has been moderni9sed and opens at the Four Corners Gallery in London this week. BBC are doing a piece to celebrate it and their reporter, Jayne Barrett with her cameraman spent four hours with me yesterday filming an interview. I think it airs tomorrow morning on BBC1 but will know later today.

I get them too, they start as a small patch in the centre then gradually move outwards and disappear, probably about 20 minutes Gloria, though I haven't timed them. No headache thank heavens.

Interesting Stanley.

I didn’t know it had a name, yes it lasted about 20 minutes and did not follow up with a headache thankfully. I was doing Duolingo french and eventually I could not read the words…horrid. On two occasions I have suffered from vertigo the next day, which then lasted a week. Luckily not this time , but apparently the two often come together

I think I have a connection with vertigo as well. This is all fascinating, I assumed it was just some personal failing with my bad eyes.

I've had this eye problem, infrequently but over about 30 years. I've known it as an expanding fortification pattern, i.e. shaped like looking down at a typical castle. It starts from nothing and expands over perhaps 20 minutes or so until it disappears. No pain and I can still see well enough go about normal life although it's disturbing if I'm reading. I've never been able to relate it to any stimulus, it just happens any time. I've had it so long it doesn't bother me now. It's usually called fortification spectrum or scintillating scotoma. It's usually seen in both eyes because the cause is in the brain, not the eye. If it occurs in one eye it's called retinal migraine. Wikipedia has more info.

For myself, I always had normal headaches through tiredness or stress or whatever and a long time ago food triggered migraines until I found out what was triggering them. For the last six years since my cranial surgery to extract the brain tumour that I developed, I have never had another headache of any type which I find welcome but very curious. :dontgetit:

Maybe the pain path which says "headache" got removed ? Any Brain Scientists about with full knowledge?

My tumour was in the left hemisphere motor region which is roughly over the left ear. I believe most headaches are triggered from the Cerebral Cortex and Sinus region. Both at the frontal area of the brain. I am not a cranial or neurosurgeon but have had benefit from the skill and the pleasure of knowing a particularly good one. :extrawink:

I have to add that lots of neuro paths were disturbed during the removal, which is common. So much so that post operative I had no motor control at all down my right side, pins and needles and numbness. Neurophysio helps you to reconnect the paths. The numbness in my arm and shoulder and face took about a week to resolve. Learning to rewire all the muscular control down my right was three weeks of a job. I still have a slight deficit where I have not been able to get the function back. Slight drop foot on the right, (although I no longer need any orthotic appliance help) and I can't move my toes on the right foot. I have feeling in them and can feel pain, heat, cold but they wont move no matter how much I try. I also think I have slightly less fine motor control in my right hand fingers as my handwriting has changed, hardly noticeable.

Fascinating.... The next time I have an episode of pixelation I shan't worry about it because I now know it's common and transient.
Thanks to all of you!
PS. I shall be in the shed working on crankshafts.....
I have revised my morning, it isn't every day one is on peak time national TV so I am not going into the shed, I am going to watch BBC1 and enjoy myself on the big screen.... :biggrin2:
Later at 05:00. I have stopped doing useful things this morning. I am going to do nothing now until after 06:00 when I shall go into the front room with my breakfast and watch my moment of fame.

Morning

This is interesting, I usually get it in one eye when it happens, and like you Tiz, no particular stimulus though possibly lighting or computer work. Its only happened a few times in the last 40 years . The first time it happened half the class I was teaching disappeared. . The next twice it was followed by vertigo. Once it was before I went on a painting holiday in the Lakes and when I arrived there the vertigo kicked in. My friends insisted on calling the Dr.who asked if I had a migraine before it explaining the two often come together . I liken my attack to the lines you used to get on a TV when it wasn’t tuned in but shimmering as if I am trying to see in water

Today is u3a art at Tod followed by a u3a wine group social. We are having a Jacobs join lunch and comparing non alcoholic and alcoholic wines.

Its due to be a cold morning and a sunny afternoon , have a good day all

Looks as though it's more common than any of us thought. I don't get it often and I hope you lot are the same because it's not good when it happens.
I have just watched the second screening of the BBC1 report. It was on later at just before 08:45 but just as enjoyable!
