Thanks Love.... My mailbox is red hot. Jayne did a good job and says she wants to do a longer piece with both me and Daniel when the exhibition comes up here. She's a very talented lady!

I've known it as an expanding fortification pattern
And there was I thinking it was only me.
I came across this a few days ago - another which I have experienced, but ages ago. Something else which is scary at the time but probably harmless. Members may find it of interest.
I since googled and find - it's a recognised condition. sleep paralysis

Did you notice what a good job BBC NW had done with the edit Gloria? It was much better. My inbox is still buzzing. Tony Nixon at Bancroft Trust reckons I ought to get some sort of an award for sharing an establishing shot with my knickers on the clothes rack!
Today I try to regain 'normal'. I shall be in the shed making swarf first thing and then spending the rest of what looks like a nice day looking after myself!

Only one pic needed. I have turned one leg of the third crankshaft blank down to about 1/2". I now have three blanks all at the same stage and can go forward tomorrow with the next stage. Yes I know, it's a lot of trouble but wait until you see the far superior final product at the end of all the faffing about. Now I need breakfast.

Morning
It took some time to locate the programme on catch up, Bob managing eventually on his laptop when we both watched it. We never, or hardly ever, watch the news on TV as we are bombarded with it all day on the radio and online so missed the 6.00 pm repeat. Also at 6.00 pm I think Bob was in his workshop and I was up to my eyes in my daily french challenge on Duolingo.
Yesterday we had a fun wine meeting comparing non alcoholic and alcoholic wines. Most of the former were horrid and the chemist amongst us suggested that without the alcohol to carry the aromatics to the nose there was little pleasant aroma to add to a rather dull taste. We tried a white, a rose and 2 reds each in their appropriate pair. We were not impressed, but enjoyed the humorous chat and the very good Jacob's join we had put together between us. In the evening Bob and I had a Chinese take away for tea, eating only half after our larger than normal lunch, the rest being reserved for another day.
Its a nice sunny morning, I think we will go for a walk as we no longer go to Bacup market or indeed we could visit the plant man who used to be on the market. It is his reopening day after the long drab winter months. Have a good day all

They've changed it from "the last working mill" to one of the last working mills". Marianna Spring has checked it for fake news
I like the line " You can't do these pictures now - they don't exist. - and the people don't exist either".
On balance I'd say "the more's the pity". Well done Mr Meadows for seeing that and capturing the moments.

What was the timeline of closures of Mills in Lancashire ? ( are we saying Queen Street is open though not in commerical use, there was that other one Stanley has mentioned in the middle of nowhere ) . Of course it is Weaving Shed rather than spinning mill but "Mill" does seem to be overarching term for mechanically run things that process something
Rather takes the question of what do all the women of working age do in Barnoldswick Silentnight aside ? or did everyone retire and live on pensions ? (I know a few are in public service - teaching / NHS )

Thanks for the comments.... Have a look at THIS article by Jayne on the BBC news website.
I'm still getting mail from people who saw it.
I shall be in the shed as usual first thing and as it's a dry day anything is possible later on.
Isn't life wonderful.....

Today the task was to get ready for the next stages in making the three crankshafts. First I had to make sure that I had turned the web on the side of the crank I had roughed down to 1/2" down to 1/4" thick as this would mean that when mounted in the 3 jaw SC chuck I had a firm hold of the web past the weak point of the crank pin thus allowing me to take good cuts. Once I had done that I took the 4 jaw independent chuck off Mrs Harrison and installed the 3 jaw SC chuck. Then i cleaned the swarf off the lathe and mounted the first of the thee shafts ready for starting on tomorrow. That was an hour of careful and worthwhile work which should pay off in the next few days. Now I deserve my breakfast.

Morning
Its another beautiful start but I think it will be cloudier than yesterday. In fact it is already clouding over. We managed a 4 mile circular around where we have been unable to walk for a few months. A local house building programme had seriously churned up the paths and with constant rain it had become a sea of mud. Yesterday it looked like the building work was finished and the paths had been rectified with a covering of gravel. It was still very new but overtime it will bed down and all will be back to normal. One path had been closed completely but has now reopened giving the opportunity to get high up on the moors above Whitworth once more. It was a very pleasant walk indeed.
Today we have no specific plans, I may do a little garden tidying in the front, otherwise I think a sewing day after washing a couple of jumpers. I did the usual weekend ironing yesterday. Have a good day all

I'm glad your walks are opening up again for you Sue. I know how important they are to your life! We are a bit overcast as well Sue but despite that I think it will be a very acceptable day.
I shall go back to bed and think about it.....

After Stanley's reference to croquet in the BBC feature - it was a bit spooky to see in the March parish magazine - an appeal for someone to suggest where the local croquet club could move to, after being given notice to quit their venue of the last twentyfive years, which is apparently now needed to build houses.

My introduction to the game was with these two, the Colonel and Betty his wife in 1979 in Lincolnshire. They had elevated dispute and cheating to an art form! This was what convinced me it should only be played by consenting adults over forty!
I shall be in the shed first thing working on my crankshafts..... Not sure about the rest of the day....

This morning I went straight into reducing the leg of the shaft I had left set up in the lathe. Straight forward hard turning and you can tell how I was pushing it from the image. After 45 minutes in the shed I was roughed down to 1/2" but too hot to finish turn. That can wait until tomorrow morning. Right now I am chasing my breakfast.

Morning
It was rather chilly yesterday and little sun but I managed a couple of hours tidy up in the front garden, much of that was cutting back a very overgrown cotoneaster shrub. I now have a large area of nice soil exposed and later in the year I shall put in some easy care small flowering shrubs. The front garden rarely requires much attention being full of ground cover and small shrubs, it will need even less when it has been replanted
This morning is french conversation at Haslingden, this afternoon a bit of sewing but then around 3.00pm we have to set off to Christies for a routine MRI scan for Bob. I can’t believe we are starting the one year review tests. It will be late when we get back from Christies so our tea will be the remainder of the Chinese banquet from Friday night. We are on a use up whats in the fridge campaign as on Thursday we drive to Portsmouth for a ferry to France on Friday. Its been a long wet 4 months since we left in early November.
Today is forecast dry and cool. Have a good day all

Best of luck to Bob for the annual review. You're right Sue, time flies!
As you launch into your day I go back to bed.... Different strokes! I hope you and Bob have a good day.. I shall be back later!
