Still a few small patches of snow on the ground in Foulridge, despite the sunshine, my weather app says we have more due in overnight tonight.

Sorry to hear that Wendy, we have rain down here. The incoming weather from the Continent is filling the news, largely ,I suspect, because the brunt of the weather coming in is going to fall on the South. It is dire and our forecast predicted a change to snow this afternoon. There is time yet, we could wake up to a white world tomorrow morning.

The weather app, on my phone, has readjusted its guess that the sleet in Foulridge will develop into snow at 8pm (it was guessing at 6pm earlier today). It has been reasonably accurate, I'll have to see where it gets its data from.
Found it

The story overnight in Barlick was wind and rain, it was windy and raining at 20:00 and very windy and wet first thing this morning, still the same now but colder and the light rain is falling as snow but not enough to stick yet. That doesn't bode well for Wendy up on the mountain! The glass is up on 1007mb. The forecast is for light snow turning to cloudy by late morning. The constant ENE wind is brisk and gusts to almost 40mph giving a high of 0C and a low of -2C with up to a -7C wind chill. That means a perceived temperature of almost -10C at times late tonight. Definitely a day for staying inside if possible. The outlook for the next five days is for similar weather, possibly even colder. This is the same set of barometric conditions that gave us the infamous 'Beast from the East' but it is not expected to be as severe or long lasting. Even so, it's cold!

No early walk, I have been in the shed and it's a bit nippy out there. It's dry but flakes of snow are blowing in the wind. I hope we don't get much for Wendy's sake.

Thanks Stanley! The snow soon stopped yesterday and turned back to persistent rain. The field drains are completely overwhelmed and there was water flowing everywhere! This morning we just have a sprinkling of snow and a bitterly cold wind which will hopefully dry the fields up or freeze the ground solid. My main worry is our early start tomorrow morning to get to Bradford before 9am, there is overnight snow in the forecast again but it looks like showers so we might be ok.

If I was laying a bet Wendy I'd say you will be OK tomorrow. The snow is going to be south and east of us then out in the North Sea. The forecast definitely points to the same weather we have today.

Yesterday was cold but dry, I went for a walk after dinner and it was bitter. Isolated flakes if snow blowing on the wind and biting your face when they hit it. At 20:00 it was still the same. This morning first thing also but now the snow flakes have stopped. The barometer is steady on 1006mb. The forecast is for an overcast but dry day until late morning when we could have snow for the rest of the day. The constant brisk ENE wind gusts to over 30mph at times and gives a high of 0C and a low of -3C with a wind chill of -7C most of the day meaning the perceived temperature will be as low as -8C. The outlook is for similar very cold weather for the next five days. The yellow snow warning is in force until Wednesday. Not much doubt about it, it's winter!
05:45. In the interests of good reporting I have just been outside and inspected the Pioneer car park. The world is slowly turning white because even though the snowflakes are isolated and light, they are not melting and are gradually accumulating but not to any depth, it's just a dusting. However, there is a significant wind and it is bitter cold, the forecast says -7C with the wind chill. I will not argue against that!

We are having some very cold weather, yesterday was no exception. But in one way it's good weather, it's dry, we are not having excessive snow and it feels good out there even in light snow. At 20:00 we had very light snow and the same this morning, just a light covering of flat surfaces. We have a breeze and this is giving us about -8C at the moment. The glass is steady on 1006mb. the forecast is for a drier day, that is less snow but we are still under a yellow warning. The constant ENE wind is moderate giving a high of 0C and a low of -4C with a -6C wind chill. There is no change in the outlook until Sunday when we could get above freezing point! (But don't hold your breath, it could all change before then.)

No need to go for a walk to tell you that at 05:00 we have a hard frost, a light covering of snow, a light breeze and gently falling isolated flakes of snow.

I've been out for a short walk. It's bitter cold of course but there is heat in that sun and the air is like wine. Nice to be back inside and it took a while for my face to warm up but I'm sure it did me good. Not what you'd call bad weather, it could be much worse!

The London snow flakes are different to those of a couple of weeks ago (which came and went in a day or so ). Yesterday morning dry powdery and no more than a dusting with larger sticky flakes after lunchtime, an overnight frost and more dusty snow - but larger and slightly more intense, odd now middling sticky flakes intermittantly. No wonder Eskimos have so many words for snow, its different as air masses meet differently.

Yesterday was as per the forecast, very cold but dry despite flakes blowing in the air for most of the day. At 20:00 we had a light breeze dry and very cold. Same this morning and we have a clear sky, lots of stars. The glass is up, almost on 1010mb. The forecast is the same as yesterday but perhaps even brighter. The mainly NE wind is moderate and gives us a high of 0C and a low of -4C with as much as -6C wind chill this afternoon. The effect will be another sub-zero day. The outlook is for the cold weather to persist even longer into Sunday and Monday being the day it relents. Tonight could be the hardest frost of the year. Up in the glens in Scotland we could see -15C, it will be nearer -8C here.
05:35. I've been up to the top of the street. No change, we have an iron frost, the air is so dry there is no frost on car windscreens. Sky still clear. We are on track for another bitterly cold but bright day. Things could be worse, it could be snowing hard!
