That sounds like a long day for Bob..... I think you have definitely got the best end of the stick Sue.... I hope you have a good day. It's going to be a bit gloomy and wet here later this morning....

I shall be in the shed early doors working on my engine. Today I'm concentrating on fitting the steam chest..... We are promised a bright dry day but I fear the wind chill will not encourage me to walk. Cold never used to bother me but these days I try to avoid it!

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
I had one clear objective this morning, to finish fitting the steam chest and lid on to the Cylinder. So drilling completed, all six holes tapped and the studs installed. The steam chest and lid fitted perfectly with no adjustments needed. Surprisingly I had to re-tap the hole for the exhaust pipe in order to get it to fit. That done I put my tackle away. Mission accomplished and a nice easy 45 minutes.... Now for breakfast.

Morning
The day got off to a bad start yesterday, my fault entirely. Bob left at 8.30 and I stayed in the hotel reading and doing my Duolingo French. About 9.50 am I was all set to go out and was just checking my cash level in case I wanted to buy anything from the market, when I discovered I had left my purse in my art bag at home. I had to phone Bob to come to the rescue. Luckily he was able to leave the event and drive the 4 miles back clutching cash and a bank card. After that all ran smoothly for both of us.
What a beautiful place Wells is, the cathedral and Bishops Palace are amazing and full of history. I was disappointed in the museum as I was expecting local social history of which there was little. It had a huge display of geology and links to Wookey Hole. Not my thing at all. The fabric shop was good but again not my sort of fabric being mainly quilting cottons but otherwise I thoroughly enjoyed myself. I got back to the hotel about 4 having walked nearly 5 miles. Bob arrived back shortly after me having finished early. We walked back into the centre to an Italian restaurant about 7.15 pm, where we had a very good meal that put about 1.5 miles on to my daily total. I know it this morning.
We shall take our time driving back today, the forecast is ok but a little windy towards home. Have a good day all

I'll bet that pulled you up short Sue! What a good job Bob was there to bail you out. Still all turned out well in the end.
That was a lot of walking.... You're right about the wind up here and it is very cold..... We have sun at the moment and the wind is roaring over the roof tops even down here in the town. It must be flaysome up at Wendy's!

Replacing a leaking wheel cylinder and rear brake shoes on youngest offsprings car this afternoon. A lot of cleanup involved as there was brake fluid everywhere, it was nice and warm in Harrogate so the job wasn't too bad. Dropped into The Barlick Raj on the way home for tea.

I'd heard about that but forgotten. Working the opposite way round, Vera trained the barn cats that it was time for food when she rang a bell outside the back door at Hey Farm......
This morning I shall be in the shed first thing doing useful things to my castings. Later on we have a good forecast with light winds so I can definitely say I shall be having a walk and a sit on traffic duty. It looks like a nice day.

Morning
We had a lovely drive back through the Cotswolds to Warwick before hitting the M6. We took our time enjoying the scenery and the lovely weather arriving home about 5.00 pm.
This morning is French at Haslingden then this afternoon I want to do a little garden tidying in the back. There are still some dead leaves lurking being the shed and on some of the perennial plants. Everything is growing quickly now and it will be nice to sit back and appreciate it. This evening is zoom yoga. Have a good day all
And yes Tripps we did see the swans ringing the bell, very clever. One was ringing it and the about three others were hanging back waiting

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
I'm glad you had a good journey Sue, it's a long drive! You're in for a good day's weather and I think you might enjoy your gardening.

My first move this morning was to fit the front lid to the target end using 2BA nuts and bolts the theory being that if the holes were lined up for 2BA bolts there would be no problem with the 4BA studs. Once I had done that and was satisfied with the fit I marked the front lid with a saw cut that lined up with a matching cut on the target end. Then I took the front lid off the target end, put it on the cylinder and made sure that the valve face would be perpendicular to the base when fitted. Once I was sure of that I marked the cylinder with a matching saw cut so I can line everything up. Next I offered the lid up to the cylinder, made sure my witness marks aligned and drilled for the 5BA CS screws that occupy the bottom two holes which are blind on the bed. Then I tapped and fitted the screws, they lined up perfectly with no adjustment. That is enough for this morning, 45 minutes of good work. Tomorrow I'll fit the 4BA studs on the cylinder. Now I want my breakfast!

I shall be in the shed first thing drilling holes in my cylinder and tapping for the studs. At 10:00 I shall be walking up to the Everest Pharmacy for my Covid Booster. Hopefully in full sun but the forecast failed us yesterday, we shall see how it does today!

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
This morning the task was to drill and tap for the 4BA studs in the front end of the cylinder, fit the studs and the lid and fit the whole assembly to the target end ensuring that the valve face is vertical. All that went without incident or any further fitting, I wasn't wasting my time yesterday with my adjustments of the holes in the target end. Now I am chasing my breakfast!

Morning Sue.... Unlike yesterday we have the full sun in Barlick also! I have remembered that I am booked in at Everest for my Spring Covid jab and so will be doing that and a bit of veggie shopping in the Town Square.
Nice day for gardening, in fact a nice day for doing anything outside.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
I feel a bit achy after my jab.... nothing serious though.
I shall put my chicken in the oven before going in the shed this morning to do useful things to my castings..... I was going to go to the Co-op for the last of my veggies and some m,ilk after second sleep but Susan and Mick are getting them for me at Aldi as they come to visit after dinner. That's handy because it means I can give myself an easy day after the jab.
Later at 05:40. The chicken is in the oven, my meals for today and tomorrow morning are all in pots and in the fridge and I am ready to go into the shed.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
I decided this morning to leave the cylinder for a while and concentrate on the bed. I am starting by making and fitting the crosshead guides. The first job was finding the material, I had stored it somewhere very safe when I was unpacking the castings! When I found it I translated the unnecessarily complicated measurements on the drawing to sizes that actually make sense. (Things like 7/32" becoming a 1/4") I marked the guides up ready for the first cut and set them up in the mill but then I decided I didn't want to get into actual cutting. I deserved an early finish and breakfast so I only did just over 30 minutes....
I know it's ridiculous but I actually feel slightly guilty! (I shall get over it.)

Morning
A good days gardening was done, enhanced by the planting of 300 summer bulbs which amazingly arrived in the morning. I only ordered them on Sunday . I just need the greenhouse in operation now. Bob has prepared the floor and the decking should arrive today or tomorrow. Then I can get cracking on planting some veggie seeds.
This morning we shall do our weekly walk to the bank, and this afternoon I shall do a little sewing, plus a bit of sitting out in the garden enjoying my toils. Another noce day forecast. Have a good day all

Morning Sue! Glad you had a good day in your garden, I know how important that is to you.... on a level with me and my shed! I'm back up after second sleep and my chicken is browning in the oven. I'm glad Susan is getting my last bits of shopping, I think I am more achy now than I was earlier. Taking it easy will be a good thing. I can see a dad nap coming on later this morning.....

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
This morning was all about one small task, reduce the two crosshead guides to the correct overall size and cut the 1/8" square profile which forms the actual guide surface for the crosshead. Very careful slow milling with my worn-out cutter! 45 minutes later I have them ready for drilling and fitting. That's for tomorrow. Small accurate steps will do me and now it's breakfast time.

We are sat in reception at Christies. Bob has a routine 1 year scan today and an appointent with the consultant. His scan appointment is 8.0 am so we were up at 5.15 so we could get here before rush hour. In fact we were quicker than usual arriving at 6.45 am . I have no doubt if we had left 15 minutes later we would just have got here on time. We will be here all morning so won’t be home till about 3.00 pm. Have a good day all’

Later.... Susan visited and made my bed for me. The duvet covers have had a hot wash and are hung over the bannisters to dry. I have finished my cooking and am waiting for the hob to cool so I can clean it. I made fish chips and peas for dinner. It's been a good morning!
