I remember when Daniel and I went to watch Peter laddering it to take the extension off. We were standing talking but Peter said he had to get up there to finish laddering while the ice was holding the bricks together. The brick section was rotten and we could hear bricks tumbling down as Peter cut his dog holes and drove the dog wood in. He told me afterwards that he was glad when he had it off.

A snatched pic of a hairy moment when Peter was dropping Salford Destructor stack in 1978. It had CI top and oversiller and as they were working two complete sections came loose and dropped off. Peter felt it going and warned the lads, Higgy and Andrew and they froze while the top rocked a bit.
What was the name of that other bent stack down the valley near Riggs gardening centre? Peter told me that it was annoying because if you put a round chisel down it rolled and tried to escape.

"Jubilee mills",Walsden near Todmorden, both chimneys are still there as far as i know, and one is still as bent as it was ,doesnt seem to have got any worse over the years, apart from the trees growing from it..

Thanks for that Tom, I have a blank spot about that stack for some reason. Parhaps because I was always fully occupied with passport control at Walsden.
Who's on Bancroft stack?

Nice to see you back on. SC has lost it's steam, I think the lads think all the stories have been told but there are a lot still out there so I thought I'd keep the topic alive with the pics. We lost most of them when the old site went down. Still, it's staring to get page views again. If anyone has a pic or a story, get on the topic and post them, it isn't a private club!
