This morning I made and fitted the plug for the lubricator, marked and drilled the crank pin brass for the retaining bolts and put witness marks on for orientation before boring the brass to fit the crank pin. I'm ready now to make the connecting rod. But the next job this morning is to have my breakfast!

Morning Sue! It sounds as though you are having better growing weather than us. Still no sign of rain yet right through next week.

Clearing another side of our kitchen for painting. We started this week and hope to have all the walls done before we go on holiday. This is the third and it involved a wall shelving unit taking down and of course all of Sally,s, cheese and condiment jars collection that lives on there, they have all gone through the dish washer or sink ready for replacing. It's relatively painless doing it one wall at a time. Last one will be the one with the dresser and full height freezer on, all the drawers will have to come out of the dresser and the freezer before we can move them. We have to do piecemeal to maintain a functioning kitchen. The ceilings either side of the boxed in RSJ supporting the bathroom wall are not particularly large but the middle boxing in supports two full length batons which in turn support two lots of hangars and butchers hooks and all our commonly used utensils.

Paintings done apart from a few bits of touching up which we will catch tomorrow. Easy afternoon ready for tonight's VE Day dance and supper at St Joseph's. Organised by the B&E Branch RBL, Earby Brass band will be playing, pie and pea supper and then other entertainment which will probably involve a bit of dancing. 40's dress encouraged so we will be making a bit of an effort, cant get into any of my military kit, British or American and I am a bit old now for either service, civvies it will be then.

You could go as a Chelsea Pensioner Ian.....
I shall be in the shed putting the finishing touches to my crank brass and starting on the Connecting rod. Almost certainly a walk and traffic duty later as the forecast is so good.

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
The first job this morning was to finish refining the bore of the crank pin brass by chamfering the ends so that it doesn't bind in the corners of the pin. Than fit the brass to the pin and make sure it is an accurate fit but not tight. I will have to counterbore the drillings for the mounting bolts later. Then I measured and marked the stock for the con rod and got that set up in the lathe for turning. I made a mistake because I cut the rod to length, that's wrong you need the full length to be able to hold the rod in the chuck. Luckily I had a spare piece of stock. I took the first two cuts and then went looking for my breakfast.

I feel for you, not an easy job , having just finished ours at home, but well worth it in the end. Your description was very familiar
Yesterday we managed to get veggie plants off the market, a couple of strawberries to fill in gaps, sweet potato, courgettes, gourds, beetroot and tomato plants. I managed to get everything except the tomatoes planted before the heavens opened with a vengeance. It rained the rest of the day on and off and most of the night. The next three days are forecast more of the same but perhaps not as heavy.
Today therefore will be indoor activities. i bought a kg of strawberries yesterday from a local supermarket, actually cheaper than the market so I will be making strawberry jam later this morning to James Martins recipe. I also have some trousers to shorten for Bob that he bought on the way here from Portsmouth M&S outlet store. I have not been very lucky there this year, I usually manage to top up on summer trousers, t shirts etc but there has been nothing there and things I sent for online either did not fit or did not look right. One dress I really liked that I bought in a sale for £40 from the online store of a good make that I often buy from was way too small . You can imagine my surprise when I saw exactly the same dress in a different colour in the supermarket where I bought the strawberries. I bought the next size up for just 25 euros. Its a little large so I will be doing a minot alteration today .
Thats our day, enjoy yours. Once again the weather at home is much better than here thought the forecast after Tuesday is very good. Have a good day all.

We could do with some of your rain Sue.... It's beginning to dawn on most people that some parts of the NW are having a dry spell. Barlick is one of them....
Glad the plants were available and you managed to get them in before the rain..... They should do well.
I am going to do well by sloping off to bed for second sleep. Talk to you later.....

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Morning
Yesterday I managed to get my tomato plants in before the rain started then for me it was a day of sewing repairs, the alteration of the dress taking much longer than expected. Bob was also doing a few repairs and general maintenance that badly needed doing. I also managed to tidy the edge of the lawn and around the shrubs
We understand that the last house in our row of three ( all for sale ) has been sold. It has been completely renovated over the last 18 months, having been bought by a local young frenchman simply to do it up and sell it on. It has now been bought by a couple, he is a gendarme and she is in the army. It will be interesting to see if they do the garden which at one time was a real picture but is now just an area of wild grass.
This morning it is thick mist outside with rain forecast all day and a high of 17 degrees. We have another day of this before higher temperatures and sun return, even then not as warm as Rochdale. If the rain holds off a bit I may try and weed the side flower border which is only possible when the soil is wet otherwise it bakes like clay. Otherwise its indoor activities. Have a good day all

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
More work fitting the con rod to the crank brass. First I counterbored the bolt holes so as to ensure the bolts were long enough than after fitting the brass to the rod I set the assembly up in the mill and milled the cheeks of the con rod foot to fit the brass. Then I set it up under the pillar drill and bored the small end to accept the mounting bolt that attaches the assembly to the engine. Now we have to fit the rod to the engine and check the travel of the piston. That's tomorrow's job. The priority now is breakfast!

Morning
It was a very wet gardening morning but I finished what I set out to achieve, a nice and tidy side border. I was soaked to the skin and caked in mud. Today I will tackle a similar job on the main rockery near the gate. A busy morning for me but not as hard as eldest grand daughter who has 3 GCSE exams today. Religious studies, engineering and Biology. Number 3 grand daughter is in the middle of her SATs. Today is forecast 17 degrees ( thats a bit warmer than the last three days.). It is due to be light rain all day, hopefully not the torrential April like downpours we kept getting yesterday. The rain smshed down my rhubarb which I ended up making into a small rhubarb tart for tea.
I managed zoom yoga in the evening, the relaxation 15 minutes at the end was most welcome. Today I will try zoom pilates but not the yoga as that would finish a bit late for us to eat at a decent time. Have a good day all. I see Rochdale is due 21 degrees and wall to wall sun again. I hope my potted plants are surviving, its a week since I watered them

Re: Today I shall be Mainly...
Morning
Well despite the forecast yesterday it did not rain. It was not a hot or sunny day but was pleasantly warm and I managed to get the rockery weeded and cut back. I lost a small trowel in the process. Where do these things disappear to. We searched everywhere I had been working and even searched in the compost heap but it never reappeared.
In the afternoon the estate agent came round to help with any language problems when the septic tank was checked, a requirement of our house sale. Not surprisingly, being 30 years old it does not conform to modern standards and will have to be replaced. We don’t have to do it but the new buyers will have to and thus there will be a reduction in our asking price. We will do that at any negotiating stage. It was not an unexpected developement. In the evening I could not do zoom pilates as Taira could not get the internet to work in the studio. Better luck next week.
Finally as we were watching TV we noticed a hornet had come into the lounge, as all windows and doors were shut it must have been in the house sometime. We made a hasty retreat to bed, closing the room off as best we can ( there is no door but a curtain) Bob sprayed in the room then we closed our bedroom door firmly. Luckily we are in the ensuite room at the moment so could use the facilities in there overnight . Anyway Bob has just reported it dead on the floor this morning, and doubly dead as he stamped on it
This morning we are going round to see Joanne and Paul and taking the shopping we brought over for them from the Uk. This afternoon we will be doing some shopping ourselves. If I get chance I want to dig over the rhubarb patch and that is garden tidying finished. A much smaller task now we have redesigned over the last couple of years. The temperature today is forecast 22 degrees and the rain seems to have more or less stopped, apart from a possible thunderstorm this afternoon. This should continue now for another 10 days. We should be able to hear the plants grow. Have a good day all’

Morning Sue, you sound very positive! They used to say they could hear the rhubarb growing in the forcing sheds at Wakefield.....

Lots of small adjustments to the crank bearing , con-rod and piston and rod and over an hour spent on the engine but I am still not there. Nothing seriously wrong just lots of adjustments needed. I shall come back to it tomorrow and finish the job. Right now I want my breakfast.
The chicken is in the oven cooking....

Morning
We had a lovely morning with Joanne and Paul, a great catch up. They too are selling their house as they are moving nearer to the centre of their village. They have changed estate agent as they are very disappointed with Leggets , our agent, and have had many more viewings. We are considering the same. We did spend yesterday evening rewriting the description in our advert and have asked for changes to be made. In the afternoon we did a little shopping and bought plants to fill in the gaps where things have died over the winter. I planted them later in the afternoon.
Today we are driving to the Dordogne where we will stay for 4 days. We are meeting my cousin from New Zealand who is holidaying there. The forecast is hot and sunny. Have a good day all

Morning Sue. A change of agent could be a good move. Even the threat might wake your current one up!
I hope you enjoy the Dordogne....
I am back up after my sleep and having a hot drink before piling into the veggie preparation and cooking.
