"The total weight of the waste dumped was about 4,275 tonnes - roughly the weight of 600 African elephants."

Makes a change from Olympic swimming pools.

I never knew that there were "guidelines" for this activity. Surely just "don't do it' would be sufficient?

"Catherine Atkinson, Labour MP for Derby North, arrived at the scene and told the BBC: "Like many I remain really shocked. You don't expect this to happen in our city. "I think that everyone is utterly stunned by what has happened.
She said she would be raising the subject of cars being driven at people in Parliament.
"I am concerned and I will be raising this with government," she said.
"We need to see if guidelines will be reviewed because we are seeing an increased amount of incidents where cars are being used as weapons."

I agree David, or perhaps prosecute aggressively?

Two quotes from The Spectator magazine.

Recent newspaper headlines and strident television bulletins will have made uncomfortable reading and viewing during her annual holdays at Balmoral. Fresh revelations about the Duke of York's relationship with the late Jeffrey Epstein are causing further embarassment in a now snowballing scandal which theatens to engulf her beleagured second son.

When the news broke at Donald Trump's interest in aquiring Greenland from the Danes for strategic mining, and perhaps golf course development purposes it was a perfectly timed affirmation of what otherwise looked an eccentric choice of summer holiday destination - namely to spend three days exploring the island's East coast.

The date is interesting

PS - He might have been described as "beleagured" above, but may now have deteriorated to, and be better described as "totally bu ****ed"

The Spectator was being extremely prescient.... I agree about Andrew's present condition but would just add the thought that we might not yet have seen the full extent of his troubles.....

Today the President of the USA has - as they say on the Interweb thingy - "jumped the shark".

He published on Truth Social -
Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!! Open the Fuckin’ Strait, you crazy bastards, or you’ll be living in Hell - JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah. President DONALD J. TRUMP

I checked the word Crass which seemed appropriate - showing a lack of intelligence and sensitivity"
Synonyms - any of which would do - stupid, insensitive, blundering, dense, thick, vacuous, mindless, witless, doltish, oafish, boorish, asinine, bovine, coarse, gross, pig-ignorant.

Meanwhile, Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer said Trump’s rant resembled that of “an unhinged madman”. He wrote on X: “Happy Easter, America. As you head off to church and celebrate with friends and family, the President of the United States is ranting like an unhinged madman on social media. “he’s threatening possible war crimes and alienating allies. This is who he is, but this is not who we are. Our country deserves so much better.”

A man who regards assassination as legitimate political tool should mind how he goes.

Did he really post that? If so there's only one crazy here and Schumer is quite right. Question is, when is something to be done about it?

I had to go and check the wording (Sorry David.....!) and found HIS BBC report.....
Updated 19 minutes ago
US President Donald Trump has published an expletive-laden post on social media in which he threatened to destroy Iran's power plants and bridges if it failed to meet his Tuesday deadline to reopen the Strait of Hormuz to all shipping. He repeated an earlier threat to unleash "hell" but told US media there was a "good chance" of a deal being reached with Tehran. Iran mocked his ultimatum, dismissing it as "helpless, nervous and stupid". Trump's new threat came after he announced that the second crew member of a US fighter jet downed over Iran had been successfully rescued in an operation deep inside hostile territory.

Later in the piece the BBC repeats exactly what David reported. Astounding language, the man is demented!

I hope the expletive tirade and accompanying threats will persuade King Charles and Camilla to cancel their visit to meet Trump. But if they do go Trump had better watch out - Camilla might go into attack mode and out-expletive him! :extrawink:
