As it seems that tomorrow might be lively I have been out in full sun and got my milk and some treats at the Co-op. Back home now, everything put away and some cut price sausage, onions and tomato in a casserole in the oven.... All is well!

This morning was dedicated to measuring and marking for correct size of the stock and using the small slitting saw as an alternative to milling to size. I finished up with two dimensions correct and finished. Tomorrow is the width and then the profile. Now for breakfast!

Morning

Nice day yesterday. We got here about 11.30 and after lunch Julia dropped Briony and I off in Coventry where' she did some shopping for school stuff. We had a coffee and walked back which is about 3 miles ( we did over 11000 steps in all) its a busy shopping centre with most shops occupied. Ed and Eve went to the football match, Bob and Julia stayed at the house and chatted.

Today is forecast 23 degrees with sun and cloud. So much better weather down here. We leave for Oxford after breakfast. Have a good day all

I shall be in the shed early doors for my daily dose of occupational therapy.... We are told by the Met Office that storm Floris will hit us shortly but so far all we have is a falling barometer and very light wind and rain.... I did my shopping yesterday so if necessary I can just sit here and watch the weather.

The crosshead is now accurately sized and square. I have drilled it and fitted the 5BA set screw that will be the pivot pin for the small end of the connecting Rod. Next job is milling the slot for the con rod and the two side channels that allow the crosshead to pass through the guides. The task now is breakfast.

Afternoon

I have had no internet for about 30 hours hence no comments. We are now in Portsmouth in a warm constant drizzle and brisk breeze. We anticipate a choppy crossing. We had a lovely day with our friends yesterday. After a pub lunch we had a walk up to the White Horse on the chalk hillside jut 4 miles from where they live. We only walked ip the hill not all the way there. Claire and family arrived in the Isle of Man safely yesterday afternoon, Julia and family are battling rain on their way to a holiday cottage in Weardale. Have a good day all .

I don't know what comes later, the Met Office tells us it is going to rain but they say it is raining now when we have a clear sky, again it's a case of wait and see.
I was wondering about the crossing Sue, I hope it isn't too bad.

This morning after measuring and marking I made the final cuts in the crosshead which enabled me to fit it to the crosshead guides. It still needs some final refinement but that will come tomorrow morning. At the moment Breakfast is foremost in my thoughts!

I spent 15 minutes refining the finish and fit of the crosshead in its guides. Then I measured and marked the bottom brasses for the crankshaft bearings and got the mill ready for machining them tomorrow. Now it's breakfast time!

Morning

All good here apart from considerable plant growth in the two months of our absence and lots of spiders and dead flies in the house. The latter were soon dealt with by vacuuming through. The garden growth will take longer. Yves and Evan had cut all the grass and all the main hedges which was very nice indeed. In the afternoon I deadheaded and pruned all the roses and Bob did the wisteria, today I will start on the other plants. I have tomatoes, beetroot, courgettes, ,potatoes and onions, the latter two need to be found under the weeds. We appear to have the best fruit crop ever, mainly apples but there are grapes , pears, nectarines and a huge crop of plums. Today is forecast 25 degrees and sun. Have a good day all

I am just back home after a shop at the Co-op, some of the veggies I'll need later in the week and other shelf fillers. I'll get the rest on Friday.

The two bottom halves of the crankshaft bearings have been milled to the correct dimensions. All that remains now is fitting. The fit will be achieved by careful hand work but that will be tomorrow. Now for breakfast!

Morning

All this fresh air and gardening and we both crashed out with over 8 hours solid sleep. Progress is being made in the garden and we should soon be ship shape. Today we are off to the market at Malestroit, no books to take to the book shop as we haven’t sorted any out. This afternoon will be another pruning session and decisions on what to do with the plums that we picked yesterday and the windfall cooking apples. I think I may make a cake with the latter. We are heading for 10 dry sunny days with temperatures between 27 and 30. Have a good day all
