"Bob has to take his car to a garage in Heywood"
It seems to me that owning a car these days just makes you a cash cow for whoever controls the diagnostic software..... Please give Bob my commiserations....
Yes Sue, we are in for a spell of boring weather I fear. I hope the gardening goes well!

I decided to improve the shining hour by cooking savoury cabbage and onion. It's been simmering very slowly for an hour and I just tasted it. Somtimes I surprise even myself, it's superb. Another half hour of slow simmer and it will be even better!

Spooky again.

I had 'savoury' cabbage too yesterday, but mine was done in a wok in about five minutes - to retain the vitamins and a touch of 'al dente'. You can eat it raw - so it needs hardly any cooking.

If that's your style then best get the Brussels sprouts on - to be in time for Christmas dinner.

I asked Chat GPT for a joke on the subject - here's the result - (sounds a bit American to me).

I tried to cook cabbage for just a little longer…
Now my kitchen smells like it’s writing its autobiography: “Fifty Shades of Sulfur.” 🥬💨

Hmm not sure about the joke however I do agree about the cabbage. I always put it in a stir fry with any other veg we have in the fridge. Its one of » our favourite meals . Often with Chicken sometimes a bit of frying steak . Tesco do some good sauces for stir fries

I can assure you that cabbage cooked long and slow in butter with onions does not turn into sulphurous goo!
I shall be in the shed for an hour getting set up for finish turning the second crankshaft..... After that, a very quiet day.....

I've set up the next blank for turning. I am trying another cutter, this process is all about chip management which is very difficult on a small lathe like this. I have made a start and cleaned up my swarf so far. Now I am focussing on breakfast.

Morning

I had my trip to Maxines yesterday afternoon and the problem with my jacket lining is solved. The jacket is vertical stripes, by doing the facings in a horizontal contrast I just have enough material. They are now cut out and ready to sew. However sewing will be delayed as this afternoon Lucy is coming for a couple of hours and I have turned my mind to what we shall do. Rather than just straight short seams I have decided we will make something simple and useful, in this case a pin cushion that has a few awkward seams. The skills can then be extended . This morning is art at Haslingden and I am taking the session demonstrating how to paint silk in two ways . So thats my day, have a good one

Morning Sue, a day of learning new skills both for you and Lucy. That is such a healthy way to use time! I hope you both profit from it.
I am doing a 40C wash and then going for milk. I was hoping to be able to leave it until tomorrow but that won't work. Never mind, the walk to the Co-op will do me good!
One red letter event today is the fact that my eldest daughter is 64 years old. You know your getting on a bit when you have children aged over 60.....

Col's Skoda Fabia Estate has been sat outside unused for a couple of months now and I need to use it to start doing tip runs. Much as I love my Panda(s) there isn't much space for loads of rubbish!
The battery was flat but my neighbour popped in with a nifty bit of equipment which got it running instantly. I changed the Vehicle Keeper to me online and taxed it in my name instead. Rang the insurance company and though they have to cancel Col's policy they have given me a month's grace to sort out a new policy.
Kev is going to help me get the diesel Panda, which is running but showing warning lights into the garage in Foulridge.

I filled in the Tell Us Once form online yesterday which will notify all the necessary government departments of Col's death.
I'll take a breather now before approaching banks, building societies etc. I'm going to give myself Gardening Leave over the weekend!

\\\\\\\\\well done Wendy! That 'tell us once' site sounds like a goody! Good that Kev is helping with the Panda, there are some really nice people in the world!
I have done a load of washing, had my short walk to the Co-op and got my milk. Now I can relax....

Do shout out Wendy if there’s anything we can help you with, we are only a car ride away, and it’s no problem.

I shall not go in the shed this morning. I want to get back to bed for second sleep early as I have appointments for my Covid and Winter Flu jabs relatively early on. I think I can allow myself a day off..... :good:

Morning

It was a successful day yesterday. Everyone enjoyed the silk painting and in the afternoon Lucy managed to make the pin cushion on the machine. She is very enthusiastic and will come again next Thursday teatime after school .

Today is u3a art then lunch out. It will be the six of us this week as Wendy and Keith returned from Majorca yesterday. After lunch we hope to go and pick up Bobs car from Heywood. A dry warmish day (15 degrees) is promised. Have a good day all

Morning Sue! Lucy is very lucky to have a mentor like you. It's seen as old-fashioned nowadays but you know it's actually essential. She will never forget!
I am ready for the morning's activities..... I see we have light rain at the moment.... That wasn't on the hymn sheet!

The light rain came as a surprise to me too, I've been to the surgery to give up a few pots of blood for my 6 month checkup. I did a 'best of three' to get my BP reading down to what I wanted. :biggrin2:

No rain forecast as I look at the damp patio and see the drizzle. In our case probably low cloud

Today I have been helped by both Kev and Ian. Kev arranged for me to meet him at the Noyna Garage with my troubled Panda, leaving it to be sorted whenever they have time. He took me back to the Community Centre in Earby where I expected to find my friend Margaret in the History Society Archive Room. I was going to ask her for a lift home but she was indisposed by a bad cold and a flu jab reaction. I did, however, find Ian there discussing metal detecting by the Society so I persuaded him to give me a lift back up the hill! A big thanks to both of them.
Apart from that I've been reporting Col's death to Pension providers and banks. You can do most things online but my head is spinning now!

Nice to hear you sounding so positive Wendy and well done Kev and Ian....
Today I am back to normal and will be in the shed early doors moving towards another crankshaft. I have no need to go anywhere or do anything this morning so I shall have an easy day.

All I did this morning was get straight into reducing this leg of the crankshaft. After 45 minutes of muck-shifting I have the journal down to a shade over the half inch I am aiming for. I shall do the final measurement and adjustment tomorrow when the stock is at room temperature..... Now for breakfast.

Today I am going for my 'flu jab and from there to Wymondham for a late breakfast. This time to the Lemon Tree who make baked beans with a difference, namely bacon and onions and a little seasoning.
