Morning Sue! I had got it in my head your ferry was a departure this morning better this evening because it gives the weather another 12 hours to settle down.
I am back up and looking at an improving day here in Barlick. It has stopped raining as promised in the forecast and we have a bright sky with low sun coming in. I am freshly showered in clean clothes and with a bed made with clean bedding. My duvet covers are hung over the bannisters to dry and I have just made a pint of fresh tea.... Hard to see how I could be in any better fettle considering the mileage! I wish all of you the same....

Thanks Stanley for the useful dog-turd-finding-method. I shall utilise it immediately and can almost guarantee that
a. It will work for yesterday's poo
b. I shall find today's poo as well and
c. I will find one that I wasn't even looking for!

Steve was very useful though, he said that Buster has "been" beside the tree, no mention of which tree and which side!

The food colouring method seems like it might work though.

Stanley… if you’re not a restless sleeper, just lay the duvet cover over the duvet.
I gave up the struggle years ago. Makes changing your bedding so much easier. Try it. 😊

That could well be a solution Cathy. I shall bear your suggestion in mind!
Today I shall be in the shed first thing enjoying the clean floor and lathe! I can't tell you how nice it is to get rid of those small annoying chips. You have to aim for them long stringy swarf is even worse, but they get everywhere!
I shall be getting ready for unpacking the next set of castings.
I doubt if I will be tempted to go for a walk because though dry, today is going to be cold and windy. I am more likely to snuggle down in bed for a dadnap!

This morning I did a final chip chase in the shed and took the big 3 Jaw SC chuck off and replaced it with the smaller 4 jaw SC. Then I did a final trawl through the 4 shafts and refined any obvious flaws. They are now on the kitchen table as eye candy and I am ready to unpack castings and start on the next engine. But first, breakfast.

Morning
A good crossing. All is well, nearly at the house.

About the above. Put a nice cover on, treat it like an eider down and just use a sheet underneath it. Change the sheet not the cover.

Its a bright sunny day here, about 14 degrees at the moment. Calling for shopping on the way in. Have a good day.

Morning Sue! Glad you had a good crossing. That's a good idea about the sheets.... I shall give that some serious thought.
I said I doubted if I'd be going out because it was too cold but I got a craving for smoked ham, eggs and fried tomatoes so I have been the the Cathedral of Choice and indulged myself..... (Mind you, that wind was Cold!)

We will be hovering around 10C all week for a high Sue....
This morning I shall finish off the reclaiming of the shed by oiling Mrs Harrison.... After that I will unpack the castings but I may leave that until after second sleep as it's a lot easier in daylight.

Much later.... after a broken night's sleep I am running an hour early so rather than just waste time before going in the shed I am going to have my breakfast, forget the shed and go back to bed. I shall get my day back on track later...

Morning

Being an hour different from the UK, it is really dark here at 7.00 am. Its 10 degrees with 14 forecast and a day of rain. I doubt we will get much more gardening done today. I shall do a sweep through the house searching for dead flies and cobwebs though I have to say it does not seem too bad. I think another sort through the books is called for as we can take some to the English bookshop tomorrow. If the rain is not too heavy we still have apples to pick. Otherwise it will be a relaxing day after our travels. Have a good day all.

" a relaxing day after our travels."
Sounds like a good idea Sue! You certainly deserve it.... I managed 3 hours sleep, a shower and clean clothes. That's the best I can do for a good start to tghe day after a broken night.
As for castings, I shall do whatever feels right and if it counts as Shed Matters I'll post it.
Any news of the potential viewer?

I unpacked the kit of castings and parts for the next No. 9 Engine and after disposing of all the packing in the appropriate bins, I stowed all the parts in their proper place in the shed. I was thinking of oiling Mrs Harrison but on reflection I have left that until I have finished making cast iron dust on the lathe.

I've spent an hour slowly and carefully cooking tow helpings of what I suppose could be called an English Breakfast. Smoked back bacon, baked beans, fried eggs, fried tomato and topped up with fried caramelised onion sausages. Lovely... looking forward to dinner and tea!

It was Kev! So nice in fact that I split the serving for tea in two and added peas to each so I have a helping left for breakfast this morning!
I shall be in the shed first thing and starting on fettling castings for the next engine. Whether that's hand work with the file or work in the lathe depends on how I feel when I get in there.... We have a good forecast so I think a walk is on the cards later on and a milk call at the Co-op.

I spent almost an hour on the bed castings, hand work with big files. I have it ready now for further refinement under the mill. Now for breakfast.

Morning

After a morning hoovering and getting rid of spiders webs, the afternoon was uneventful and wet. It rained until about 7 when the sky cleared. Bob did a couple of minor electric repairs which included the fan in the oven. We sorted out the last pile of books to take to the English second hand bookshop today which leaves all my cookery books which I am keeping and books that will have to be taken to charity shops at home.

So its a trip to Malestroit today, and we may have lunch out. Its due to be dry, cloudy and 16 degrees so this afternoon will be a little more garden tidying. We have decided that the viewing of our house is not going to happen. Have a good day all

Morning Sue!Hard luck about the viewing. I hope you get a sudden surge of interest! Lunch out after the bookshop sounds attractive and knowing you, if there was a pleasant spell of gardening after your day would be complete.
I am more easily satisfied, a walk out to the Co-op for milk and who knows, if the mood takes me I might have a sit on my bench.....

Today I'm preparing the house for my daughter to visit tomorrow. In reality, there's not a lot to do and she certainly won't notice anything I haven't done, but still.......

Also we want to shift our shed shelves about, the ones we moved from our previous house were far better quality than the ones we installed to begin with, that is the danger of doing things in the wrong order. After the shuffle, we shall have heavy duty ones in Steve's shed and some lighter duty ones in the larder / store. We will also have room for a chest freezer in my shed which will ease up the dog food bulk buy (raw beef) and will cut down the amount of trips to the shops for bread.

The disadvantage of shopping for bread in a supermarket is that you tend to buy other stuff as well.

Apart from that is that it is not real bread, I have never come across any variant in the supermarket that sounds hollow when tapped. Most of it will bounce if dropped due to all the extra stuff commercially produced bread has in it.

Real bread has flour, water salt and some kind of raising agent, (yeast, (wet or dried) or sourdough). Salt is the preservative, my sourdough loaves last the best part of a week without using a freezer.

Just wrote and posted and it all disappeared, so here is the abridged version. Yesterday went according to plan including a pleasant walk a long the canal at Malestroit.
