Those are superb photos, Kev. I suppose you have the benefit of anti-vibration as well as cast iron elbows?
I only learnt recently that I should go into settings and switch off the anti-vibration function when using a tripod. I'd rarely used a tripod until I got the little Manfrotto one for taking close up pics of my minerals. I found that the photos really were sharper with the anti-vibration shut off. It seems counter-intuitive!

Thank you Tizer. My camera has 3 settings for image stabilisation and, like you, I've found using them degrades the image and always make sure it's switched off. It has its uses for fast moving objects but they're 'not my bag'

Yesterday was a good day for drying washing. At 20:00 we had a slight breeze, it was dry and we had a clear sky with a bright moon. This morning it's calm and mild but raining at the moment. Glass is on 1011mb and steady. The forecast is for this rain to stop and the cloudy day to develop into a sunny one with showers late afternoon perhaps. The wind is a constant moderate SW giving a high of 10C and a low of 7C with a chill of -3C for much of the day. The outlook is for similar mixed weather.

Calm and mild here as well Stanley but no rain, there’s been a light shower overnight to keep the dust down.

There was heavy rain early this morning, a lit of water about. It's still misty up here.

Don't rush to switch it off just yet, Stanley. I only switch mine off when using a tripod because the manual says to do so.. I still keep it on for the rest of my photos. It allows me to take them at lower speeds than otherwise when the light is limiting. I haven't tried comparing `non-tripod' photos with and without the anti-vibration.

The 3 image stabilisation settings on my camera are, effectively, for horizontal or vertical 'panning' or a combination of both. I can see the advantage, when capturing moving objects with a hand held camera, but have always preferred a faster shutter speed and a higher ISO. I don't let the camera carry out any image processing, I shoot RAW and do any processing in Photoshop. A lot of photos I see online have been taken with a smartphone and all processed in the phone, my DSLR has a lot of presets and 'art' functions which produce automatically manipulated images straight out of the camera but where's the fun in that?
I've gone a bit off piste here so will stop rambling and let the topic drift back to the weather, which has been rather pleasant today

I agree with you Kev, I like to stick as close as possible to what my old Nikons with Tri-X would give me.
Yesterday was a nice afternoon and I never saw any signs of late showers. At 20:00 it was clear and dry, broken cloud and a light wind. Same this morning. The glass is down again on 999mb. The forecast is for a rainy morning clearing up to sunny spells in the afternoon. The WSW wind is brisk and gusts to 40mph this morning giving a high of 10C and a low of 0C tonight with up to -5C wind chill which means it will feel cold all day. Wrap up warm! It will be cold enough late tonight and early Saturday morning for snow. After that we can expect slightly warmer and wetter weather with plenty of variation, typical Atlantic weather.

Very wet this morning, but not cold.

A final comment on cameras...DSLRs give much more control over light etc whereas I'm using a compact and that's where the anti-vibration gives its advantage.

First thing this morning cold and breezy again with recent hail. Just been out and it hasn't changed. The glass has recovered a bit and is on 1005mb and rising. The forecast is for the rain/sleet to cease soon and for the day to improve to bright overcast and sunny spells. The wind is a brisk westerly gusting to 40mph tending to the north at first and very cold. The high will be 7C and the low tonight 6C but the wind chill this morning could be as much as -6C making it feel very cold. The outlook is for warmer weather, wet tomorrow but then improving and sunny. Full moon is due tomorrow night...

The forecast is simple, heavy rain all day. The strong SW wind gusting to 45mph gives us a high of 12C and a low of 10C with a wind chill of -4C. The outlook is for warmer dryer weather. I had forgotten the clock change!

Yesterday afternoon was too showery to tempt me out. By 20:00 it was windy and still raining. It cleared during the night and we had a brilliant moon but by 04:00 this morning we were back into wind and rain. I have just looked outside, we still have the wind, it is mild but dry now and the cloud is breaking. The glass is up on 1011mb and rising. The forecast is for a dry overcast day with sunny intervals from 15:00 onwards. The constant strong WSW wind gusts to almost 50mph at times and gives a high of 13C and a low of 5C tonight with a wind chill of -4C all day.
The outlook for next week is for much warmer and sunnier weather starting tomorrow.

During the night dry, low broken wispy cloud and a brilliant full moon and the same first thing this morning. The only change since then is that the sky is clearer. The glass is up on almost 1023mb and steady. The forecast is for a clear sunny day. The wind is a light SW giving a high of 17C and a low of 8C with minimal wind chill. The outlook is for similar weather. This is not the end of winter but it could be the beginning of the end!
