Coronavirus (Covid19) Corner
Re: Coronavirus (Covid19) Corner
As I said earlier there is a legal requirement to name your contacts in the previous two weeks as in ANY EPIDEMIC and NOTIFIABLE DISEASE . This is normal track and trace that has been around for decades.
I learn something on here every day, thank you Sue.

Sorry...this is where you guys are STUCK. You need to let technology help you beat this dreadful Covid.
Put aside your “rights” and get with the programme! Stop thinking in the old ways as they obviously aren’t helping. You lot have more CCTV than the rest of the world. You know that there is nothing to fear if you are doing the right thing. CCTV saves lives and solves crimes.
Let this technology help you. All you need to do is sign in at every place you visit. The tracers will let you know if you have been in any danger.

Problem is Maz, our government can't seem to organise the proverbial in a brewery so they have no chance with a technological solution. You forget these are Bullingdon Boys that we have to put up with. That's not just a political pop for the sake of it either.

Then...the blood of nearly 100,000 deaths is on their hands, and the people will not forget.

Re: Coronavirus (Covid19) Corner
I wouldn't bet on it. Before all this lot kicked off we still had 10 years of imposed austerity and folk still voted for them.

Re: Coronavirus (Covid19) Corner
Maz, you might have thousands of people signing in with false names and false phone numbers and therefore untraceable. How do you prevent that? You might be able to check through credit/debit card data but that won't work if they use cash or don't find what they want and leave without paying for anything.

I still believe the UK government made the biggest mistake at the very beginning of the pandemic by allowing people to enter the country without tracking them and checking they quarantined for a sufficient length of time. Once you've let the virus in unchecked you're stuffed. Instead of just telling incomers to quarantine we should have tagged and monitored them too. Unfortunately we're going to have to become more like China in the future and have tighter control. Freedom is all very well but viruses have no fear of it, they love it!

Surely not? They are Australian, they follow orders when their government says the wordTizer wrote: ↑25 Jan 2021, 10:53 Maz, you might have thousands of people signing in with false names and false phone numbers and therefore untraceable. STDs was where this was mainly developed. Guaranteed confidentiality. The system set up in May was just to enlarge the existing system.
I have signed in, in the few places I have to, before QR . Codes, technology is working Maz and I think you are doing us down. Who identified the new strains any way, our working scientists and technology.

I never knew that either, it deserves a read methinks. A learning experience while sat indoors waiting to go back to work on Wednesday (also indoors).

Re: Coronavirus (Covid19) Corner
A friend of mine who lives in Kent tells me that anyone who is symptom free is being offered a covid test once a fortnight. That seems like a good plan.
Re: Coronavirus (Covid19) Corner
It does, I wonder if there is enough resource for the whole country to adopt that. I know care workers and medical staff are regularly tested and there is pressure for school staff to be done regularly too.

Re: Coronavirus (Covid19) Corner
Bradford City Council are also offering symptom free mass testing, they are suggesting a weekly test. Son Craig was sent to Ewood Park in Blackburn where the football club is offering a similar thing but your employer has to request the test.
Re: Coronavirus (Covid19) Corner
I've not been to the office since March so probably not something my employer would request at the moment. I'd certainly go for one, we both did home tests when there was a push for Pendle residents to get one.

Re: Coronavirus (Covid19) Corner
On reading this I see it is not a legal requirement by tge sick person but a serious recommendation and the medical practitioner can require it if it is deemed ne essary for the health of others....enter Covid .

Re: Coronavirus (Covid19) Corner
Been thinking about the education sector and the amount of schooling the kids have missed, (one way or the other). A reasonable way out would be to revert to a previous practice and just hold each year group back one year. I.E keep all the schools shut until summer then have them all do the year again. This to me would seem a sensible way out rather than the piecemeal open/ shut when should we open when should we close approach. Massive variations in home schooling etc.
The kids would all be a little older in each year group and would almost certainly fair better and make better grades etc.
There would have to be careful consideration for the nursery end and you could move up the kids who were competent enough and doing well. The rest would take care of itself.
Extreme circumstances call for extreme methods. This way no one should be disadvantaged.

Re: Coronavirus (Covid19) Corner
Having a grandaughter due A levels this year - I've been doing the same. I thought that would be a good idea, and 'de facto' I think that a whole academic year will effectively be lost. However there will be a blockage somewhere - won't there?
At the 'input' end I don't think it matters much - just put them all up - it will find it's level. A bit more 3 R's and bit less Greta Thunberg, and the 100 gender identitiies should be helpful.

At the other end it may be more difficult. This year's A level candidates will effectively repeat the year, in the company of the current 'Lower Sixth form or whatever they call themselves now - (year 12?). So there will be no university entrants this year, and double the usual number next year? How will that work?
I think the solution adopted - mainly but not exclusively, teacher graded assessments, is probably a pragmatic one, and will have to do. My grandaughter has been told that mocks and the exams are cancelled and she may as well stop all revision. (!).
May you live in interesting times. . . .

Re: Coronavirus (Covid19) Corner
I find it frustrating that the media keep asking when children will be going back to school, why can't they get it into their thick heads that Boris doesn't know the answer to that yet. As Ian says, just repeat a year. We're not currently living in normal times, just adapt and survive and it'll all settle down eventually.
I understand it's difficult for some but they could be one of the 98000...

Re: Coronavirus (Covid19) Corner
Exactly Kev, you cant call the last 12 months straightforward. Kids have been left at all kinds of levels depending on how parents have been able to cope and in many cases due to the social and economic standing of individual families. Let assessments and gradings stand for the Sixth Formers. Promote the kids who are doing well but give all the others another chance at what they have missed. It would benefit a lot of kids in the long run. Nothing is insurmountable and abandoning kids or letting them miss a year is not an option in my book. If we wrote off the entire academic year most folk would be vaccinated by August when the new year starts so plenty of time to work out a return to school plan. It would all level out within a few years and no one would be disadvantaged. You don't have to start Uni at 18 years old it's not a rule.

Re: Coronavirus (Covid19) Corner
My youngest had a year working between GCSE and BTEC qualifications (he didn't like A levels) before going to uni. He then had another 9 years working before doing a PGCE. There's no rush...
