Just about to sit down and lose hours doing Ancestry, so have put the slow cooker on to take care of dinner...Braised Steak, Onions, Carrots, Red Capsicum, Zucchini, a can of tomatoes and the last of the Cabbage. All I will need to do later is make Mashed Spuds.

That's the beauty of slow cooking isn't it Maz. Pop on and forget!
Had the last of the sausage and onions on a small butty at dinnertime. Put spuds and carrots on, drenched with melted whey butter and a small bowl of that for tea fortified by two lightly fried eggs.... Have put my first loaf in since last week...

Sounds yummy, Liz.

Our Braised Beef from the slow cooker was excellent...very tender and tasty, the veg were sweet, and there was plenty of thick, rich gravy to smother the Mashed Spuds.
Heaven on a plate.

Currently trying to find the motivation to wash up....!

It's what dogs are for Maz, that and eating up any crumbs of food from the floor.....how on earth would a person clean up a dropped egg (it happens now and then!) without a dog to help?? :grin:

Paper towel.

And I never let my kitchen cloths or sponge touch the dogs bowl...all washed seperate to our dishes and only handled with paper towel for washing and drying.
Cat dishes handled the same. And no cats on kitchen surfaces or tables.
Seriously...you are making me freak.

Oh dear Maz, sorry to make you freak. Our cats and dog all get fed in the utility room so everything is done separately anyway. If we ever get chance to meet up, and I' hope we will one day, just say NO in BIG LETTERS if I invite you to visit here.... :laugh5:

Wendy, I would be HONOURED to meet you, and I pray I do one day...and I'd LOVE to see your home in what I imagine must be paradise.
Pardon my slight OCD with kitchen hygiene...I realise that most people don't go through half a dozen tea-towels a day like I do ( it's a big joke amongst our kids)...but really...I am harmless...hee hee...and I even pass for normal...if the lighting is kept at a flattering level :laugh5:
Just can't get my head around Stanley letting his dog lick the plates, given that he disconnected the hot tap in his kitchen some years back...but I can accept that the problem is mostly mine.

Maz, a dog has the safest saliva of almost ever animal. A human bite is far more likely to have harmful bacteria in it than a dogs. They have powerful antibodies we don't have. Remember the parable of the Good Samaritan? "And the dogs licked his wounds"? If you are ever wounded and have no medical help get a dog to lick the wound clean. That's why they lick their own....
I went back to wartime cooking yesterday. I cooked two small two shear chops on a bed of onions on a low light. Forgot them when I went for a sleep and overcooked them. A modern family would have rejected the barbecued taste but in the war, we had to ignore accidents like this. Very distinctive flavour actually... So 'burned' stew with spuds and carrots for tea. Dinner was an egg and chip butty simply because I fancied it....
I remember when we were on holiday in Cleveleys in 1942 the landlady made a blancmange using the guests combined sugar ration and burned it. She apologised when she served it and we all ate it even though it was not good! There's a war on you know!

They also eat other dogs poo on occasion.
Each to their own..?If you are happy to have the dog lick your plates...so be it.

Stir fried beef and noodles here tonight. Broccoli included in the stir fry and a sauce whose main ingredient is tahini. Yum...... and not a dog lick in sight - she's already had her dinner.

I put the remains of the 'well done' stew in with what was left of the carrots and peas. I'd already put a tin of baked beans in it to dilute the BBQ taste and added some peas to extend it to two helpings. It was more than just acceptable, I was sorry when it was finished at tea time!

Had a 'bread day' yesterday just for a change. It's butcher's day today and not much point doing a lot of cooking. So I had beetroot and fried egg butties X two for dinner and tea. Don't laugh at the combination, try it on good wholemeal bread with salt and pepper....

I had some chipping spuds that needed eating so I had steak pudding and chips X two for dinner and tea and enjoyed them.
I ave an old, thick aluminium pan that is Teflon lined and I use it exclusively for boiling eggs and heating steak puddings and black puddings in boiling water. I have always used a tea plate as a lid to save heat but the last two times I have done this it has cracked the plate! I've gone over to a small enamelled plate for a lid! Funny how this has just started happening.... Same heat setting and electric ring....

Twice on the trot Moh?
Kath gave me a large white loaf that was going out of date on Friday and as I hate waste I have to eat it. I normally don't eat white bread but bacon butties are best on white with white pepper.... The slices are very small so I had three bacon butties for dinner, one too many as it turned out, at teatime all I had was one very small beetroot butty....

Slow cooked beef casserole for us last night. Full of veggies and served on mashed spuds. Hearty comfort food.
