Never underestimate the power of an old fashioned hard copy letter, particularly one sent by Registered Post! The people you are dealing with hate them as it leaves a concrete audit trail. That's why they like phone calls. Always leave the ball in their court.
If something is initiated by a phone call send a letter that sets out your understanding of the conversation and include something to your advantage that wasn't discussed. If they don't bother to respond by mail it is set in stone and goes into your Pearl Harbour File!

Like many of you I am being bombarded with emails from people I have never heard of who are covering their collective arses because of the change in data protection that came into force on the 24th. I don't know about you but I am ignoring all of them and deleting the mails. I doubt if I will suffer.......

If you are in a town awash with the aftermath of a music festival, broken glass, spilled drink and fast food, watch where you are treading and avoid eye contact with drunks staggering about on their way home...... Barlick centre is like the Village of the Damned this morning!

The large group of volunteers will have the town square cleared up in no time. Bands on the Square has been a much improved event this year, day three today so an early finish (7pm) with the exception of the volunteers who will be out clearing up.

If you are a woman suffering from 'Period Poverty' move to Scotland where sanitary products are being provided free to low income families. This subject has only been taboo to certain hide-bound males and hence has been ignored. Well done Scotland for grasping the nettle. Over to you T May this ought to be standard practice!
Another tip.... agitate for zero VAT rating on these products. I think at the moment they are charged at 5%.

We have a problem over here where Asians (I think Chinese) are buying up our tins of babies powdered milk formula and sending it 'home' because of s shortage in their own country. It's been going on for a while and has been creating a shortage here and some of supermarkets now store it under lock and key and purchases are limited.

They are not doing it out of the goodness of their hearts, Cathy..they are profiteering. Since the Melamine scare in Chinese Baby Formula, people are desperate for high quality formula. They make a pretty penny from their own countrymen, who get fleeced in the process.

During the war we had National Dried Milk and if it wasn't reconstituted properly your tea had white lumps in it.... But we were never short of milk, mother used to use it in her baking together with National Dried Egg.

When Doc had his heart scare he got me a BP machine and it has been very useful. At the moment I'm doing daily readings for my GP appointment on Monday and it's very reassuring to get a reading of 118/73 at my age. Today's tip is to get one and monitor yourself..... It can't do any harm and makes you aware.

Use disposable vinyl gloves if you are doing anything mucky. My discovery of 2017! My hands have never been in as good condition! (It only took me 80 years to discover this one.... Slow learner?)

I've been using them for years now for the same reasons. In the garage I have three types for different purposes; thin vinyl for painting and delicate tasks, ordinary kitchen-type for general use and very thick DIY ones for nastier and heavier jobs. I also have the lightweight grippy gloves which are great for when I'm carrying stuff to prevent it slipping.

Those 'grippy' gloves are excellent. If you're doing a job where you need full feeling in your fingers Rozalex barrier cream is good. I'll bet my big tin is 50 years old!

I often wonder how someone who has to cook for a family manages their expectations. I always remember Mrs Robinson on Folly Lane who didn't like salt in her cooking so she didn't put any in even though her husband and sons protested. They soon found out it was a waste of time! Perhaps that's the secret, cook how you like it and let the others get used to it!

Exactly! :good: If I have to stand and sweat at the stove, and they are not prepared to do so, they can put up with whatever takes my fancy...

Take advantage of opportunities when they present themselves. When we went for our walk this morning some yob had got a take-away meal complete with tray and had scattered the lot on the pavement on Railway Street. The tray was good quality, well made, heavy and brand new. I have rescued it and it can replace the white tray I have used for years for Jack's water bowl which is stained and a bit disreputable..

A tip for media presenters interviewing someone. Every now and then stop interrupting the informant and let them express their view instead of pushing to establish your own agenda. If only they would read this and take notice! Same thing applies in conversations, you learn a lot more if you listen.

Listen to Wendy and Maz in matters of nutrition. After straying off the path I reaped the reward in the shape of a deterioration in my condition. I have got back on the true way now and can see an immediate improvement. I am cooking on a smaller scale as well and my weight is dropping.... Win win I think and it has reminded me of the good advice we pass round on the site.

Whilst I will always push the "high veg intake" path, I am no Guru, Stanley!
( i think Wendy and Colin are more correct in their message)
None of us live forever. We are still limited by our lifestyle, genes and family history. But...we all need to have fun and be kind on ourselves without becoming too paranoid. So long as we are good most of the time, I can't see a problem being naughty occasionally. No good getting too paranoid about foods when we really can't control genetic history. And there is nothing gained from being miserable about it as we travel our life journey...
So listen to your body. If you don't feel hungry, don't fuss about not eating.( I am in this particular space at present)
If you feel hungry...EAT. ( and ENJOY)
If you really fancy something wicked ( occasionally(...is it going to hasten your death if you eat it without guilt? ( NO!)

We shared a few squares of Rum and Raisin Chocolate tonight...it has been in our fridge since Christmas!
Now you can't call that over indulgence!
Still got some left over - wonder if it will last until next Christmas...
