Do you pin or tack your layers prior to quilting, Sue...and have you tried the spray adhesive?
Also...stipple quilting is fun. ( though it needs a bit of practice). No foot at all.
And what sort of batting are you using, as there are different thicknesses.
I love quilting, though it have to do it in short bursts since I broke my arm as the weight of it sets off nerve pain. I like hand quilting too...

I'm not doing any quilting at all since son's hairy dog came to live with us though. Her hair gets everywhere, and would be forever encased in the stitches.

I tacked and sprayed the first attempt. On the second attempt I used the curved pins. I preferred these as they were easier to put in than tacking. I draped the quilt over the ironing board and pinned in sections. It worked well. I used a fading pen to draw the lines for sewing and moved any pins that fell on the lines

I used quite a thick polyester batting as I wanted the quilt to wash easily and I used a walking foot. I tried quilting clips to hold the quilt in a roll but actually preferred it without in the end.

I like hand quilting and have done a lot of small projects using that method.

I use masking tape to mark the first sewing line, usually across the middle of the quilt, and once I've sewn the first one use a quilting guide for the rest. I use curved quilting pins too but have never had any success using something to hold the quilt in a roll, whatever I use gets caught on the machine and falls off anyway.

The throat of my machine is not very wide so I can't quilt big projects. That's my excuse anyway!

And it loaded very quickly. Previously I used to go off and make a cuppa while I was waiting. I didn't know if it was my PC or the size of the file - not a problem anymore.

Masking tape, now there is a good idea. Thankyou.
