Never heard of Cabbage Lane, Was it parallel to Buck St.? or was it just a local name that disappeared over time?

Just seen your post, still can't imagine it being a named lane.

Yes, Cabbage Lane down one side of the buildings and Buck Street on the other. Have a look on the map I posted at the start of the topic.

I've just seen it mentioned in a book called Memories of Colne but I had never heard of it before.
So that image is actually Cabbage Lane?

I also did a bit of googling and found Cabbage Lane mentioned in the Annals of Colne. Recruits to fight the French in 1795 lined up in twos all the way from the Market Cross down to Cabbage Lane.
Turney Crook runs from Ivegate to Windy Bank, there is a block of sheltered housing there now but a few remnants of old Colne remain!

Loving it Wendy, these are fascinating to look at.

Church Street looking West in 1863.
In the centre background is the Ivegate town clock, built in 1841.
The clock, which was of enormous size and weight, was sadly demolished in 1875.

The clock was apparently so heavy that it threatened the integrity of the building! As there was a clock in the tower of St Bartholomew's (next door) at the time, it was unnecessary - and the Town Hall came along a few years later.

This topic was a good idea Wendy. We can't have too many old snaps!

Municipal Hall, which opened on 15th March 1902, and the Old Market Cross which has now been re sited at the front of the indoor market.

From memory copyright on images is the for life of the person who took them or commissioned them or 75 years. this is for resale or commercial use. I would think you can use them without any worries especially for non-commercial use.
