My wife walked through the gardens about 7:30 last night, there was a small group of young children playing 'soldiers' with toy guns.

Although not finished, the gates and railings work is ongoing, it's good to see people walking through the gardens. It's certainly opened them up. I watched a number of children walking through to get to the High School and that was all they did, walked through on their way to school. I believe there were concerns that these children would be causing mayhem to and from school, I have yet to see this happening.

Thank you Kev for your input here. I have not had a chance yet to have a proper look, what little I have seen in passing is impressive.

Kev, it's not quite dark enough for them yet and they seem to be concentrating their efforts on the roofof the Harrison street dentist at weekends in spite of it being well lit and in full view if the street.

So when it gets dark enough trouble will break out?

I know. Either that or I seem to be completely unaware of these marauding gangs that seem to populate Barlick...

Not being pessimistic but if you lived in a house that actually faced the gardens and Harrison street instead of out of full view or in another area, then you too would be dreading the winter nights. I am not mobile yet but am wondering when they are going to do something with that ugly back wall?

I believe they're waiting on the new railings

Do you mean the back wall mostly hidden by the ivy, or the section of wall you pressed to be retained in full, Enfadado?
As Big Kev has mentioned, the whole wall at the new entrance will be replaced with railings.
Barnoldswick in Bloom volunteers will be planting new shrubs along the back bed to fill in the gaps over the course of the next few months.

The reason I pressed for it to stay was to prevent exactly what is happening now, being used as a dog toilet, skateboarvd park and a dangerous downhill bicycle run from park street.not to mention the muddy state it has got into. Quite fankly I have more important issues to deal with and when I move down to the other end of Barlick it will become somebody elses view. Signing off now my health is my priority not debates about walls.Enjoy!

Coming to the other end, could that be our patch? Down here we have to rely on community spirit to overcome problems, not just the views of the individual.

Thanks Kev; haven't had a look with the lights on.
Benches fitted yesterday. Fingers crossed, final contract work to be carried out soon.
Bloom volunteers are producing meticulous plans for the planting, which will be carried out over the coming season.

Living where I do I can say it's made a great improvement, the bottom of Park Street feels much more "open"

Had a look at the Memorial Gardens after dark this evening on way to Rainhall Centre.
The uplighters on the trees are quite subtle and the effect looks quite decent...

Looks good as long as the tree is healthy and has leaves on....

The tree won't have their leaves for much longer!

I'm not keen on that idea at the Memorial Gardens; don't feel it's very appropriate... any other views?

Definitely no "fairy lights", personally I cant see what's wrong with the up-lighters regardless of season and with or without leaves. No need to over egg the pudding either. The new open aspect and the forthcoming planting of the sensory gardens will finalise the new design for me.
