Hubby has been told he needs to lose weight, so kitchen is going into battle mode.
It's hard enough to feed him as it is with all his likes and dislikes, and the fact he doesn't eat much anyway.
( his doctor reckons his meal size should be " one eighth" of a dinner plate.

)
What is the point of cooking? And how are you supposed to get every vitamin and mineral in it?!
I can see us both getting miserable with this "one eighth" thing very quickly...

I know the feeling Maz. One eighth of a plate sounds a bit extreme to me.... All I can say is eat the same well balanced diet but try to eat less. I trade the problem of having to eat the same thing for multiple meals against the quantity problem but it's easier for me as I was reared with rationing. Make industrial quantities of good cooked food and freeze in small portions?
I had four very small teacakes to demolish yesterday before I start on the fresh loaf Kathy game me. I had all four for dinner with coleslaw and Blue Gloucester cheese and for tea had a steak pudding with spuds and carrots.

Mashed carrots and spuds with a meat pie for dinner, last of the mash for tea but with half a Boursin cheese mashed into it, lovely, creamy and filling! One of my friends gives me a baking of mince pies every year and they arrived yesterday so mince pies for pudding dinner and tea and there are three left for today......

That does sound extreme. I'd be using smaller plates to make it look like there's a bit more there.

I sometimes wonder if doctors take recommending diets seriously. You'd think that at least they would have advisory leaflets on nutrition and not take the easy way of saying "Eat less!"

I grilled some sausages yesterday and then popped them on a bed of onions to cook slowly on the stove but I forgot that we had a wind and the stove was drawing better than usual. Consequence was that the sausages were very well cooked but not burned. Undeterred I made two small sausage and coleslaw butties for dinner, grilled a couple of burgers and popped them in with the well cooked remains with some water and vinegar. Back on the stove and kept my eye on them until the onions had cooked. For tea I boiled some Maris Piper spuds, mashed them with half a Boursin cheese and salad cream and milk and had a third of the sausage and burger with it for tea. It was lovely and very tasty due to the overcook but not spoilt. Two helpings left for today!

Scotch pie which was the last meal part cooked in main oven and finished off in the little oven following element failure and consequential trip out of all things electrical. Cheese and onion pasties also followed part cook and finish off method. Not to be recommended. Scotch pies eaten with mash and marrowfat peas.

The overcooked stew plus mash X two for dinner and tea. It got better and better! Boiled some sprouts until they were just tender, put melted butter, sea salt and pepper on them. shook them up and left to cool. Had some for pudding and the rest are in the fridge. I eat 'em like toffees! I love sprouts and if you do them like this they are sweet, all that 'boiled cabbage' taste vanishes.

Looks like a nice spread...
Febby and I flew to Perth today on cheap tickets...and it ain't half hot here! ( glad I packed shorts)
We had to get some basic supplies from a supermarket and BOY! the prices are higher here! As we mainly live on salads, I am talking about fruit/veg prices...and at the same time I am shocked some items come from New Zealand ( a few air miles there!). Many of the basic fruit/ veg items we bought were exactly double what we pay actually.
I reached for a red capsicum...but at $18 a kilo put it back. I can live without it in my salad at that price!
Seriously...this is a culture shock. I must add that all items we were looking at were at premium condition and looked as fresh as can be. Don't think we could afford to live in Perth...

We had roast duck yesterday. Today I am using some of the left overs to make crispy duck pancakes, plus a beef dish for a bit of a Chinese banquet. We will be drinking tea not wine

Christmas cake or mince pies for afters.
Just been for a long walk in Healey Dell before the snow arrives. We did have some on Christmas Eve, but blink and it was gone.

"I reached for a red capsicum...but at $18 a kilo put it back."
I just bought a single pepper in the interests of research. It weighed 230g, and cost 60 pence.
I've calculated that to be Aus $ 5.00 per kilo. Still - you have warmer weather there.

Boiled spuds and a steak pudding for dinner. I slow cooked some two shear on onions on the stove and had some on a butty for tea. The rest went back into the gravy accompanied by all the boiled spuds and sprouts. No Cooking today!
